MATT BRINDLE Book 1: HIS THIRD VICTIM BOOK 2: THE OTHER VICTIM Book 2
I've recently finished book 1 in this series, and went straight onto this bad boy! Book 2 in the MATT BRINDLE Series.
I'm really getting to like the main character Matt Brindle, ( I also quite like his mother) I'm loving learning about him, his highs and lows, his attituded towards people, the team he works with. His home life is probably just as chaotic as his working life. Trying to balance his full time police career with running events in the grounds of his home to make much needed cash for the upkeep and renovations to his rather large home. It is all very cleverly set out, written brilliantly. Matt and his team are joined this time around with DS Kate Baxter joining the team. Kate who seems to have quite a few issues in her personal life, has the making of another great character. Dead bodies, Body parts, disappearances, If that hasn't got you interested then this isn't the book for you. Once started, I read this book pretty much in 2 sittings. (while the little one's away) I think the tension, suspense and mystery in these pages are enough to keep any fan of this genre going. The twists really made this story stand out. I will add as always with books that are part of a series, I really feel that it's best to read these in order. it will give you a better idea and a better understanding of who the characters are and their backgrounds. What you waiting for, click the links and treat yourself to two great books. If you have noticed my reviews have gotten shorter, it's because I feel sometimes I maybe giving a bit to much of the story away. Not spoilers as such but maybe just a little more info than what is needed. Take that out means shorter reviews because my little brain can't work for long before it's gets tired.

His Third Victim.
This is a real quick, easy read. I read this over two nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. After seeing a post for the next book in this series, I had to go have a nosey and found this one, so I bought it right away. I have an ARC of the next book, but I don't like to read books out of order. So purchased and started this one. Interesting characters, and a decent story line. This is one of those books that you just get lost in reading, It keeps you wanting to read on. Just one more chapter each time. I liked the character of DI Matt Brindle. I love how he's so different, his background is interesting and it's is great learning about it. Brindle is back at work after an absence, he is slowly trying to get back on track with things and learn to cope with issues that have previously happened. Along side this he has his mother and quite a large house to look after, doesn't sound that difficult does it? well wait till you read the book, you'll see what I mean. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series, I think it's going to be a good one. It's right onto book 2 for me now. I have read quite a few of this authors books, and enjoyed them all. Which means I wasn't really surprised when this turned out to be as good as it was. Book 2 is also now available.
‘Relentless pace, devilish cleverness and a laser-sharp focus on plot.’ Chris Brookmyre
‘Without doubt, this is one of the best detective series I have read.’ Woman’s Way Magazine Your new addiction starts here: get hooked on the #1 bestselling series. Perfect for fans of Karin Slaughter and M.J. Arlidge. There’s no easy way to die… Unknown to DI Luc Callanach and the newly promoted DCI Ava Turner, a serial killer has Edinburgh firmly in his grip. The killer is taking his victims in the coldest, most calculating way possible – engineering slow and painful deaths by poison, with his victims entirely unaware of the drugs flooding their bloodstream until it’s too late. But how do you catch a killer who hides in the shadows? A killer whose pleasure comes from watching pain from afar? Faced with their most difficult case yet, Callanach and Turner soon realise they face a seemingly impossible task… ‘A very sinister premise and an intriguing killer’s voice. Highly recommended.’ James Oswald So what did I think?
Book 3 in this series was a superb read, a gripping thriller to keep you on the edge of your seat. I'm loving the characters in this series and enjoying getting to know about them.
Callaghan and Turner are back, and this time they have a serial killer that need's catching. It isn't going to be easy and straight forward, because lets face it, we wouldn't want to read if they solved the case easily, there would be nothing to get stuck into. Helen fields certainly has a knack of writing a book that will grip you, keep hold of you and spit you out panting for breath by the end of it. I have only just realised I read book 1 then this one, I seem to have somehow missed book 2 out. I love how while the books are serious, and dark there is also an element of humour with the characters personalities. There are a few characters that are really growing on me the more I get to know them. I love reading a bloody good crime series and this is certainly turning out to be one those. I have no problems what so ever recommending this book. If you need a new series then this would be a perfect one for you to try. I feel very privileged to have received this book as an ARC from Netgalley and even more so that I also have book 3 that I can start right away.
If you love Martina Cole, Kimberley Chambers, Casey Kelleher and Jessie Keane, you’ll love Dangerous Girl.
Sometimes your enemies are closer than you think Anna is finally happy. She’s rid of her abusive ex and she’s co-owner of London’s hottest new club, with her best friend Tanya. But she is worried about her boyfriend, Freddie. He’s keeping things from her. And he won’t tell her where he goes in the middle of the night. Freddie is furious. A girl has gone missing from one of his clubs and the police are all over him. When a familiar face turns up and threatens him, he’s offered a deal – find the girl or Anna will be killed. With time running out, Freddie risks everything to save Anna’s life. And if there’s one thing Freddie Tyler is known for, it’s that he never gives up. Not without a fight… My thoughts on this 5* Read.
Dangerous Girl, What a read. A damn enjoyable page turner. I started this book an afternoon I wasn't feeling so good. It certainly helped take my mind of the crappy things happening in real life. I was lost in those pages and the lives and crimes of the characters.
I recently read Runaway Girl, which is the first book, so I was thrilled when I realised this, Dangerous Girl was a follow on. I Can safely say if you enjoy reading the likes of Casey Kelleher, Jessie Keane, Jacqui Rose then you will love these books. Personally I would say read these books in order for a better background feel, I don't think it would matter if you didn't, but I love knowing the history of characters from the beginning. I love the characters of Anna and Freddie, the straight as a die woman with the gangland partner makes great reading. The daughter of a very influential man has gone missing. She disappeared after visiting Freddie Tylers club. Last seen on CCTV outside of his club. This has the police crawling all over his club, not something Freddie Tyler needs. He is somehow dragged into the search for her, and it's a race against time to figure out what has actually happened. There is some violence in this book, but I would say if you like the gangland crime style books, then you won't find it over the top. It's what helps make these types of books. A damn good unputdownable read, and I for one can't wait for more. Emma Tallon is certainly going to be one of those authors whose books you 'MUST' read. I knew that after book one, and when this book become available as an ARC on Netgalley, I didn't even bother reading what it was about, I just clicked that request button. You may also enjoy
Emma Tallon is a British, gritty crime writer, adventurer, Londoner and mother to a young son. Starting her career a few years ago as a ghostwriter, Emma crafted some of the most adventurous, edgy and heart-wrenching stories you can find on the shelves today.
In March 2017 Emma stepped out of the literary shadows and self-published her first book, Life Game. The book was an instant success, the results far exceeding anything she had expected. As news of Life Games popularity spread, she joined forces with W.F.Howes and the audiobook was launched in October 2017. In December 2017, Emma signed a three book deal with publishers Bookouture. This included Life Game which was changed, re-edited and re-released as Runaway Girl. Drawing inspiration for her books from a mixture of her own observations and an active imagination, the characters Emma paints are colourful and larger than life. Her story lines are an interesting recipe of deep emotion and violent grit, that keep her readers engrossed. With two more books in the works for this series already, Emma has many more stories planned out for the future. Melissa Sanderson is the perfect wife and mother. She dotes on her daughter, and lives in her dream home in a quiet cul-de-sac in the suburbs.
But looks can be deceiving. Something is amiss in that house – all the neighbours think so. Some say Melissa is having an affair. Others say she’s been drinking too much. Then one night, sirens wake up the whole neighbourhood. Melissa Sanderson is dead. Another great read from this very talented author. 4/5*
I couldn't wait to start this book. After reading book one I knew to expect a high standard of reading and a story that was going to grip you. I wasn't disappointed.
Melissa Sanderson seems to be the lady that has it all, the perfect life. We always say though, you never know what goes on behind closed doors. Living with her husband Darrell and their beautiful baby girl Mia. Life is about to change in this lovely cul-de-sac. Detective Gina Harte has just arrived back from a holiday, she's not even had time to get changed before she's back working. Working a murder case that is not only confusing but brutal. There are a number of characters in this book that I really didn't like. ( I don't think I was supposed to like them) You have the feeling of knowing what is going to happen, yet there is nothing you can do. This book was brilliantly written, and I'm concerned should I write any of what went on in the story, it would give away to many spoilers, and I don't want to be doing that. What I can say is this book grips you, it keeps you going, keeps you wanting and needing more. It has you holding your breath, the suspense is wonderfully done. Getting to know Gina Harte just that little bit more is good, I can see a lot more good coming from this character, and I for one certainly can't wait for the next instalment.
Enter the world of One Folgate Street and discover perfection . . . but can you pay the price?
Jane stumbles on the rental opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to live in a beautiful ultra-minimalist house designed by an enigmatic architect, on condition she abides by a long list of exacting rules. After moving in, she discovers that a previous tenant, Emma, met a mysterious death there - and starts to wonder if her own story will be a re-run of the girl before. As twist after twist catches the reader off guard, Emma's past and Jane's present become inexorably entwined in this tense, page-turning portrayal of psychological obsession.
An interesting read, a good read but not as thrilling as I thought it was going to be. I liked the concept of the story, and it was easy enough to follow.
I hate how everywhere you look nowadays with books, you always get the 'if you likes xyz, then you'll love this. Personally I'd say this is nothing like I've read before. It really was very different, a pretty unique story and one that is quite thought provoking at times. It's easy to get lost in the book, and with each chapter being told from a different pov, Jane or Emma then they are quite short chapters, which makes it easy to sit and think just one more chapter, before you know it you have read a whole chunk of the book. I believe this to be JP Delaney's debut novel, which for a first novel I think it's very clever. I have then next book by this author to read and I'm looking forward to seeing what we are given this time. I think this author is certainly going to be one to watch out for. I can't go into the story line here, as it's one of those books that the slightest hint might give away way to much. The book description itself gives enough of an idea of what it's about. An interesting read, and should you be going away this would be an easy book to pick up and put down while lounging somewhere nice in the sun
When millionaire Leo Speight is found poisoned, Scotland's toughest cop is called in to solve the high-profile case...
Skinner joins his old team in a complex murder investigation in the twenty-ninth gripping mystery in Quintin Jardine's bestselling crime series. Praise for Jardine's compelling novels: 'A masterclass in how murder-mysteries ought to be written' Scots Magazine When millionaire Leo Speight is found poisoned at his Ayrshire mansion, Police Scotland has a tough case on its hands. Speight was a champion boxer with national hero status, and a long list of lovers and friends stand to benefit from his estate. Did one of them decide to speed things up? Or was jealousy or rivalry the motive? The Security Service wants to stay close to the investigation and they have just the man to send in: ex-Chief Constable Bob Skinner. Skinner might have retired from the police, but solving crimes is in his blood. Combining forces with DI Lottie Mann and DS Dan Provan of Serious Crimes, he's determined to see Speight's murderer put away for a long time. But there's a twist even Bob Skinner couldn't see coming... Available in audiobookBefore I start I will say this is one of my all time favourite crime series. I have read every single Bob Skinner book in order. This however is the first time I decided to get the book on both Kindle and Audio. It was great being able to flick from one to the other. I sat reading and when I had to get up to do things, I just turned it over to audio. The narration of the book was done magnificently. The different characters and their accents were brilliant. I will also add that for the best experience, read this series in order. It's so much better having a back story to the many many characters there are. So book 29, wowzerzzz… I loved this book just as much as I have all the others, I love the character of Bob Skinner, for me he's the Scottish Alex Cross. He's a first class Character with lots of baggage. He's the sort of man you want on your side and not against you. I'm loving how now in later books, the other characters are playing bigger parts in the story, although Bob Skinner is still around as he is now working for the Security Service. Millionaire Leo Speight is found poisoned Lottie Mann and Dan Proven are to head the team into finding his killer. Lottie is struggling with personal issues and despite this she still manages to be a great detective. She has her long time partner Dan watching her back at all times, in work and out. When you also have Big Bob on your side, any little problems can soon be ironed out. I'm loving how in these books the centre stage is not all for Bob Skinner, in his last book the character focus was all around Commander Neil McIlhenney and in book 27 the focus was around Bob's eldest daughter Alexis Skinner, this time around the character focus is more around Lottie Mann and Dan Proven. It's great being back with characters that feel like old friends. I did say in my review for book 27 that a spin off series featuring Alex Skinner would be awesome. I still think that. I am lucky enough to have just received an ARC of book 30, so I can't wait to dive into that one now I have finished this one. An OUTSTANDING series, where the quality of writing and storytelling has just gotten better. Sometimes with long running series you can start getting a bit bogged down with them, they start to fade off the more books are written. Well that's certainly not the case with this series. Thrilled to bits, is a bit of an understatement to be lucky enough to get an ARC of this book. I have loved this series of books and here we are at book 3.
What a flipping read it was. I loved every single page, every chapter made you want to read on, just one more, just one more. If this book had been 800 pages long I would have still wanted more. Casey Kelleher certainly knows how to write a book that gets you hooked, I don't know how but each and every book beats the last one. when finishing the last book you just don't believe that it can ever be topped but Casey has managed that, TEN FOLD. I'm more than a little impressed with these books. Back with the Byrne family, It's been great following this family through life's struggles and It's great to see how Nancy has grown up and really come into herself. Now the head of the Byrne empire, Nancy takes nonsense from no one. Nancy is now also trying to be a good mother to her baby girl. Still keeping the business going and juggling motherhood, Nancy is besides herself when the past catches up and her beautiful daughter Scarlett is snatched from the park. One thing is for sure Nancy will go to the ends of the earth to get her little girl back, but is it to late? There has to come a time in life that if you take things from others, that one day it will be payback. An outstanding read, if you have read any other book by this author and enjoyed it, then let me tell you, this is the best book yet. What more is there to say, I mean shall I waffle on about it or shall I just say, go buy it, go treat yourself. If you haven't read any of these books then you'd be thrilled to know that all 3 books are available and less than £6. I mean come on we spend that on tatt some days. Spend it on something that will give you hours of entertainment. These books will certainly do that. Imagine if your going away anytime soon, you could just rest, relax and get lost in the world of the Byrne family. I'm speechless as to how much I enjoyed everything there was about this book. Best one yet!
