The enemy is close to home in The Manor, a gripping gangland thriller from the top five bestseller Jessie Keane.
Charlie Stone and Terry Barton have been blood brothers since the cradle. They grew up in the East End skimming along the bottom of the underworld, until Charlie took over the manor from the local mob and a twist of fate put him and his best mate on the road to the high life. When Charlie and Terry both marry and have kids, everything is set. Both families have everything they ever wanted. But things begin to turn sour when Charlie’s adopted son Harlan starts to cause trouble. It soon becomes clear that Harlan doesn’t just want to be number one son; he wants to be number one, full stop, and he wants Terry’s daughter Belle Barton by his side. As the feud caused by Harlan spirals out of control it is left to Belle to pick up the pieces. Is she strong enough to take on Harlan Stone? And has she got what it takes to rule the manor . . .
Huge, Huge Jesse Keane fan here. I have read all her books and know to expect a gripping read. This book is one of the best I have read this year, my goodness 'keane can write a damn good book. Wow is pretty much all I want to say. Absolutely loved this book. It was gripping, thrilling and interesting but there was just something about this book that made it so easy and enjoyable to read. I flew through this book in no time. Something I regret the minute I've finished it, I should have tried to make it last longer but I just couldn't.

I could not put this book down, Jessie has excelled herself with this book. It's alway a worry when authors have done so many books that they start to go off the boil a little, this certainly isn't the case with Jesse Keane, she can engage the reader and reel them in right from the begininning fo the book. What a ride this one is . Bravo, can't wait for more. All the stars and more.

When you’re running the streets, loyalty is everything… Gangs rule the streets of the rough Gallowburn Estate in Glasgow, but the deepest rivalry of all is between Jamie Gray and his friends, known as the Blood Brothers, and their enemies, the Lawsons. The two gangs clash frequently, but when a phone containing incriminating evidence disappears after a particularly brutal run-in, the stakes are higher than ever. Jamie’s mother Jackie is as hard as nails and is not going to let anyone hurt her boy – even if she has to roll up her sleeves and get stuck in. What she wants more than anything though, is to see Jamie turn his back on the street life. And when he meets spoilt rich-girl Allegra, who has a penchant for shoplifting, Jackie thinks she could be Jamie’s way out. But with the Lawsons closing in, and everyone taking sides, there is only one way out for Jamie, and to triumph he must take out his biggest enemy… If you love Martina Cole, Kimberley Chambers, and Jessie Keane, you’ll love Heather Atkinson. Discover the bestselling author Heather Atkinson, her crackling plots, unforgettable characters and page-turning pace and you'll never look back... What readers are saying about Heather Atkinson: 'Another brilliant book from Heather...she really is one the best in the business. ' 'I have read ALL Heather Atkinson's books. They are all fantastic.' 'All Heather's books are action packed and have you on edge.' 'I stumbled upon Heather's books and I'm so glad I did , characters excellent and storylines are great , I find myself searching the book stores for more of them to read the minute I finish one.'
The first book in what I can only say is going to be an epic series. This author has written some of my favourite book series ever. I have loved each and every book by this author and believe me there are a lot.
In this book as her others, Heather has created some outstanding, memorable characters. A lot of these characters wil stay in your mind long after finishing this book. There is a hidden sense of humour in these books along with the gripping, gritty sometimes gruesome story. To be honest when I first started reading this I thought it was a little tame compared to some of Heathers other books. But don't let that put you off, once this book ramps up and you have gotten to know everyone it really sucks you in. You will fly through the pages. So, book 1 is set in Glasgow on the Gallowburn estate. Another of those estates that you love to read about, but don't want to live on. An estate where family and loyalty is important as is being able to look after yourself. 4 Guys from the estate known as The Blood Brothers, 4 friends, Jamie, Gary, Digger and Logan. Each on a character in their own right, the book is based around Jamie and his family, his frying pan lover of a mother and his younger Brother Charlie. The Lawsons are The Blood Brothers, rivals. when they clash there is always trouble. While working a local shop Jamie meets Allegra Abernethy, there story then turns into one crazy adventure. Jamie being from the estate and Allegra the daughter of a very controlling, rich, criminal father. She likes to spend her days away from home and away from her father. I especially loved Jackie, Jamie's mum in this book, what a great character she is. she will have no one upsetting her cubs, Mamma bear will be there with her weapon of choice in her hand. Her frying pan. Also Ephraim, he seems like such an oddball character you can't help but like him. The whole cast of this book are amazing in their own rights, the story flows brilliantly and you are whisked along on a bumpy rollercoaster of a ride. A must read for anyone who like the gritty gangland books. First class..

Description
From Amazon bestseller Pam Howes comes a heartbreaking World War Two novel about a young woman trying to make the best of history’s darkest hour. Is a happy ever after impossible? Liverpool, 1943. For Bella Rogers, life is looking up. She loves performing with The Bryant Sisters, the singing trio who have become the country’s sweethearts, putting a smile on the faces of the brave boys fighting the Nazis. But then tragedy strikes when a telegram arrives: Bella’s beloved father has been killed in France. Unlike her poor Mam, Bella has someone to share her grief with. Her childhood love Bobby is home from the war. He lost a leg but she counts her blessings every day that he’s alive when so many young men haven’t made it back. Bella longs to give her heart to Bobby but she is hiding a secret that may change their lives forever. Will he still love her if she reveals the truth? But when bombs screech down on Victory Street in the middle of the night, blowing houses apart, Bella may lose both the home she loves and the family who mean everything to her. With so much loss around her, will Bella be brave enough to snatch her chance of happiness? And when the war is finally over, will wedding bells ring out on Victory Street again? An utterly unputdownable, heart-wrenching historical novel that will have you completely hooked from page one. You’ll lose yourself in this gorgeous wartime story of love, loss and family secrets. Perfect for fans of Wives of War, Nadine Dorries and Nancy Revell.
Ohhh I love these books. Now those of you that know will know this isn't my usual genre, however Pam Howes has a way of writing these books that as soon as I see one, I need to read it. We are back in this series with the lovely Bella Rogers. It's 1943 and Bella is still singing in her little trio called The Bryant Sisters. Bella's little boy 'Levi is staying with her mother which is allowing Bella to continue to tour with the girls and sing for their troops.
Bella want romance to blossom with Bobby, her childhood sweetheart. Things could be looking up for her, but first she really needs to tell Bobby some truths. The biggest one being that she has a son. Bella is worried at how Bobby will take the news. Living through the war will teach people that if they have happiness they should hold on to it. Take what ever is thrown at you and make life good. Pam shows this in the words, this book is Heart-breaking, Heart-warming and unputdownable once started. Having read the previous book (you should, in my opinion) then it was back with familiar characters that we'd grown fond of. I felt like I was visiting distant family that I hadn't seen for a long time. While this story concentrates a lot on Bella and Bobby, we get to know a little more of the other characters and their families. I love Bella's mother Mary and grew to love Prunella, Bobby's mother also. It's amazing how two such different families have so much in common. I think Pam has tied a lot of the strings of the story, together, beautifully. This truly is a beautiful story and as the nights are getting darker and colder, Now would be a good time to get your blanket, get a cuppa and get comfortable because once you start the amazing book you will not want to put it down. Pam certainly brings the times and struggles of the second world war to life in this book. The emotions through this read are real, you could almost be with the characters. First class, fantastic as always. I look forward to more.

Erin was a good girl. But someone wanted her dead…‘I love all Mel Sherratt’s books’ IAN RANKIN
‘An absolute masterpiece’ ANGELA MARSONS ‘Twists and turns and delivers a satisfying shot of tension’ RACHEL ABBOTT When sixteen-year-old Erin Ellis is attacked, she dies in the arms of her best friend Molly, just metres from her home. Molly is the surviving girl but says she easily could have been the victim – it was a random mugging gone wrong. With inconclusive evidence, DS Grace Allendale must dig deep within the tight-knit Stoke community for leads. And she soon finds that someone had a motive to kill Erin. As the investigation unfolds, Grace is reminded of a horrifying case she worked on earlier in her career. Is the past coming back to haunt her? And can she push through her fear to catch Erin’s killer before it’s too late?
Oh my, what a read this was. Absolutely loved it. Another gritty page turner part of an equally gritty series. If you have not read this authors work then now would be as good a time as any to start it.
It's tough but I think this is my favourite one of the series so far and this is book 4. Best friends, teenagers Erin and Molly are on their way home, so close to home when Erin is mugged. A fatal stab wound leaves Erin to die in the arms of her best friend. Life is never going to be the same for Molly. We have Erin's family in turmoil yet as the girls mothers are also best friends it hit's Molly's family just as hard. DS Grace Allendale is called in to investigate. As Molly was with Erin when it happened Grace needs to get as much info as she possibly can from Molly but clearly the friend is traumatised and grieving. Grace and her team have to dig deep to get clues, and as the story unfolds we learn just what the girls had been doing before the fatal incident. Could this be linked to why Erin died or is this totally seperate?. I could not put this book down, I wanted and needed to know what had happened and believe the author did a fantastic job with the twists and finally letting us know who and why. An ending I really don't think I was expecting. Families in this book who I wanted to console, I felt very much a part of it all. Brilliant characters and brilliant story line. I soooooo can't wait for the next one. Well done Mel, you never fail. This book has been added to my 2020 Must Reads list.

THE MOST GRIPPING CRIME THRILLER OF 2020 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "It's a non-stop page turner" "Brilliantly exciting, nail-biting read" "I didn’t see the end coming" Detectives Rowan Jackman and Marie Evans are told that their IT boss has disappeared. They soon suspect foul play. Orla Cracken, known as Orac, is no ordinary techie; she was once a field agent traveling abroad undercover, working for the government. Meanwhile DC Robbie Melton discovers that two people, both urban explorers, have mysteriously disappeared while out exploring abandoned buildings. One went missing at a disused airfield, but was it a military base, or was it civilian? The gruesome discovery of their decaying bodies found hanging in ancient church ruins bursts the case wide open, and Jackman and Evans are under pressure to find the killer. It soon becomes clear that the murderer is targeting urban explorers, but why is he determined to track down and torture these innocent people, and how is the case connected to Orac’s mysterious past, still shrouded in secrecy? THE LATEST CRIME THRILLER BY JOY ELLIS, SET IN THE LINCOLNSHIRE FENS, WILL KEEP YOU GUESSING — AND YOUR PULSE RACING— UNTIL THE VERY END. What readers are saying about Joy Ellis “Another breathtaking thriller from Joy.” Carole “Great read from start to finish.” Nerys “Just a wonderful enjoyable read.” Nicki “A hugely compelling police procedural, with twists and turns that raise tension and suspense.” Paromjit “All the twists and turns kept me reading.” Viv “Another great book from Ms Ellis.” Barbara Perfect for fans of Rachel Abbott, Sarah A. Denzil, Robert Bryndza, Mel Sherratt, Angela Marsons, Colin Dexter, or Ruth Rendell. THE DETECTIVES DI Jackman leads the investigation. He is extremely smart and has a knack for bringing out the best in his diverse team. DS Marie Evans is haunted by the loss of her husband in a motorbike accident. She is fiercely loyal to her friends and colleagues. ALSO BY JOY ELLIS JACKMAN & EVANS Book 1: THE MURDERER’S SON Book 2: THEIR LOST DAUGHTERS Book 3: THE FOURTH FRIEND Book 4: THE GUILTY ONES Book 5: THE STOLEN BOYS Book 6: THE PATIENT MAN Book 7: THEY DISAPPEARED THE BEST-SELLING NIKKI GALENA SERIES Book 1: CRIME ON THE FENS Book 2: SHADOW OVER THE FENS Book 3: HUNTED ON THE FENS Book 4: KILLER ON THE FENS Book 5: STALKER ON THE FENS Book 6: CAPTIVE ON THE FENS Book 7: BURIED ON THE FENS Book 8: THIEVES ON THE FENS Book 9: FIRE ON THE FENS Book 10: DARKNESS ON THE FENS Book 11: HIDDEN ON THE FENS DETECTIVE MATT BALLARD Book 1: BEWARE THE PAST Book 2: FIVE BLOODY HEARTS Book 3: THE DYING LIGHT STANDALONES GUIDE STAR I have to start by saying I am a huge fan of this authors work. I have read and loved all of Joy's books. I particularly have a soft spot for Nikki and Joseph in the NIKKI GALENA series. This book is book 7 in the JACKMAN & EVANS series. Other books in this series are Book 1: THE MURDERER’S SON Book 2: THEIR LOST DAUGHTERS Book 3: THE FOURTH FRIEND Book 4: THE GUILTY ONES Book 5: THE STOLEN BOYS Book 6: THE PATIENT MAN Book 7: THEY DISAPPEARED Based in Saltern-Le-Fen Di Rowan Jackman and Ds Marie Evans make a formidable team. Another fantastic police duo created by Joy Ellis, along with their team they are faced with a 'Disappearance' and it's one of their own. Orla Cracken has not turned up to work. This is very unusual Orla lives in her little cave in the basement of the police station. Marie is the only person that Orla has ever really spoken to and opened up to, so Marie has cause to worry around Orla's no show. When Urban explorers start to go missing it soon becomes apparent that there could be a link to Orla' disappearance . Marie feels she has to go to higher up bodies in the force to raise her concerns. Her concerns are right, Orla was once a government agent and her being missing could possible be due to this and very, very serious. The more you get in to this story the more engaged you become, you realise this isn't a read you can put down and pick up at any time. this is a book you have to keep reading, and keep reading, the more you read the deeper in you go, this book was a first class engrossing. There is so much going on in this book that I feel to mention any of it would give away too much of the plot. I wouldn't like to spoil it for anyone. What I will say is, it gets all the stars and more and I can recommend this book to anyone who likes a gripping read. Personally for me I would say reading them in order is best, but if you don't bother about reading in order this could be read as a standalone. |
