Cross Your Heart: An absolutely gripping detective thriller that will leave you breathless (Detective Jess Bishop Book 2)
Blinking her eyes open, she looks around the room, taking in the bed and the wardrobe full of clothes she’s never seen before. This isn’t her bedroom. Those aren’t her clothes. She begins to cry as she wonders if she’ll ever see her own home again.
Three young girls are missing. All of them cold cases. All of them forgotten. But when Detective Jess Bishop identifies a disturbing link between them, she’s determined to find out what happened, and fights to re-open their cases. At the scene of each abduction the kidnapper left a clue – a small bag of candy – in place of the missing child. And then a fourth child is taken. Eight-year-old Ava is snatched from her hospital bed and when a bag of candy is found in her room, Jessica knows it’s the same kidnapper. As the pressure to solve the case pushes Jess and her team to breaking point, Jess takes a personal risk she fears she’ll live to regret. But she has no choice. Out of hospital, Ava can only get sicker: Jess is running out of time. Can she find Ava before it’s too late?
What a great read that turned out to be. I thoroughly enjoyed this, the second book in the Jess Bishop series.
Jess is really developing as a character now, Smart, stubborn, ballsy and also a little off the rails as she fights her own demons, what is not to like about this character. This is an easy story to get lost in, once you start reading this book it's hard to stop. There is so much going on that you really feel the need to keep going with it. Wanting and needing to know what is going to happen. I find when you read so many books in the same genre that occasionally the characters can become a bit samey and get muddled up. Not with Jess, she is certainly an individual character. We kick off this story with Jess waiting to find out if she is fit to return to work after her injuries from her last case. Jess an FBI agent is eagre to get back to what she loves doing. Jess being Jess, will do all she can to get back to work 'officially. If this means bending the truth a little, then that is just what Jess will do. When a child is snatched from her hospital bed, a bag of candy is found in her room, Jessica is convinced this is linked to 3 previous kidnappings. Jess and her team are running out of time to find who the kidnapper is before it's to late, and before anymore children go missing. We have a great mix of characters in this book, and some are really turning out to be very likeable. I am eagerly awaiting the next instalment to see where this series can go.

There is just something about this simple cover that really drags me towards it. I couldn't wait to start this book. I love discovering new authors. |
When the dismembered body of Lydia Steiner is found washed up in the waters of a blisteringly hot Louisiana swamp, Detective Jess Bishop knows for certain this isn’t the murderer’s first kill.
Three other dismembered bodies have been found, all bearing the same marks. Marks that strike fear into Jess’s heart. They are identical to those from a case she’s spent her entire career trying to forget.
As Jess and her team try to link the victims, another body is discovered and they fear the serial killer is taunting them. They know it’s only a matter of time before he kills again.
As the body count rises, and the hunt goes cold, Jess knows she has to confront her past in order to catch the killer, even if that means making herself the bait…
Now You See Me is a gripping and heart-stopping thriller full of twists and perfect for fans of Robert Dugoni, Karin Slaughter, Robert Bryndza and Lisa Gardner.
Now you see me is a great start to this new series, I have enjoyed getting to know new characters.
Jess and her partner Chan are sent to Louisiana to investigate the findings of a dismembered body. Not all the body parts can be found at the scene. Its believed that this is the workings of a serial killer as three other bodies have been found all bearing the same marks.
It's a race against time to find this evil killer before any more bodies are found.
It's great getting to know Jess and her character is great. Jess has spent a long time trying to forget a certain case and is spooked when similarities in this case start to crop up.
The story starts off with Jess being with her now partner Chan, then being put back with her old partner Jamison when he returns from undercover work.
It's clear right from the beginning that these two have at one time been the perfect working duo, but things have gotten in the way over time and it's a struggle working together again.
I can see this growing and becoming a really strong series, getting to know characters is always good and the characters created in this book are brilliant, I'm looking forward to learning more about them, especially Jess.
She certainly deals with things in her own unique way, and can be a little, lets say reckless at times. But all this just adds to what I believe is going to be a first class character in the future.
This book is well worth reading for any crime fans. I think most will really enjoy it. I loved the ending of this book, I really didn't see that coming. It really does leave you wanting more.
Originally from California, Kierney Scott lives in Edinburgh, Scotland with her husband and their daughter. In her spare time she likes to read and invent new recipes. Her stuffed peppers are particularly popular with her family, as are her grain-free chocolate chip cookies. In an effort to convert her family to the joys of pumpkin, she created the Great Pumpkin Challenge. For the ten weeks before Thanksgiving, they tried a new pumpkin recipe every week. Pumpkin arancini and pumpkin queso were a big hit. She has promised her daughter to never again roast pumpkin and call them chips. She loves hearing from readers.
