The enemy is close to home in The Manor, a gripping gangland thriller from the top five bestseller Jessie Keane.
Charlie Stone and Terry Barton have been blood brothers since the cradle. They grew up in the East End skimming along the bottom of the underworld, until Charlie took over the manor from the local mob and a twist of fate put him and his best mate on the road to the high life. When Charlie and Terry both marry and have kids, everything is set. Both families have everything they ever wanted. But things begin to turn sour when Charlie’s adopted son Harlan starts to cause trouble. It soon becomes clear that Harlan doesn’t just want to be number one son; he wants to be number one, full stop, and he wants Terry’s daughter Belle Barton by his side. As the feud caused by Harlan spirals out of control it is left to Belle to pick up the pieces. Is she strong enough to take on Harlan Stone? And has she got what it takes to rule the manor . . .
Huge, Huge Jesse Keane fan here. I have read all her books and know to expect a gripping read. This book is one of the best I have read this year, my goodness 'keane can write a damn good book. Wow is pretty much all I want to say. Absolutely loved this book. It was gripping, thrilling and interesting but there was just something about this book that made it so easy and enjoyable to read. I flew through this book in no time. Something I regret the minute I've finished it, I should have tried to make it last longer but I just couldn't.

Another book that is so difficult to review without giving spoilers. Everything about this book is gripping, breathtaking and nail biting. All the ususal cleches but all true. I could not put this book down, Jessie has excelled herself with this book. It's alway a worry when authors have done so many books that they start to go off the boil a little, this certainly isn't the case with Jesse Keane, she can engage the reader and reel them in right from the begininning fo the book. What a ride this one is . Bravo, can't wait for more. All the stars and more.

Oh my dayzzz where has my head been. I have just done a 2 book Jessie Kean binge and thinking I was up to date, double checked goodreads, to find I hadn't read this one, so off I popped to Amazon to find out I purchased this book on 28 February 2015.
Why on earth do I do it? So thinking my hat trick of Jessie Keane books could be completed by reading the new book The Edge: (Ruby Darke Book 3) I was wrong, I finished it by reading this one. So lucky me I still have another one to read, which should then take my little binge up to 4 Jessie Keane books in a row. The down side of reading such amazing books back to back is finding something to match the high standard of writing I'm getting used to. This book was a standalone. 15 year old Clara Dolan is about to have her world blown apart when her mother dies, Clara has to take charge and take on the responsibility of her younger brother and sister. Clara has to flee from her home before the authorities realise she is underage and to young to be looking after her siblings. In a very short space of time Clara has to grow up and grow up quickly. Thinking she is doing the right thing by her siblings Clara Has to find someone who can help and support them. This is exactly what she does. This is not without problems and as time goes by Clara is on a mission to get what she wants, Money to fund her and her siblings lives. Packed with some brilliant and some not so brilliant characters this book takes Clara on a huge learning curve, some amazing twists and a fantastic story line this will have readers gripped from the start. Well worth reading and I would highly recommend it.

Stay Dead is the heartstopping sixth book in Jessie Keane's bestselling Annie Carter series. Annie Carter finally believes that life is good. She and Max are back together and she has a new and uncomplicated life sunning herself in Barbados. It's what she's always dreamed of. Then she gets the news that her old friend Dolly Farrell is dead, and suddenly she finds herself back in London and hunting down a murderer with only one thing on her mind . . . revenge. But the hunter can so quickly become the hunted, and Annie has been keeping too many secrets. She's crossed and bettered a lot of people over the years, but this time the enemy is a lot closer to home and she may just have met her match . . .
Go me, another book read from my back log of books. Good old Amazon informed me I'd purchased this book in 2016, I really thought I was up to date with this series, but clearly I wasn't. It was only after I'd just read LAWLESS that I decided to check what other outstanding books I had by this author and come across this one.
I've loved my little Jessie Keane binge, it's cemented again my thoughts that this lady certainly can write a page turner. Annie Carter at her best, this book I have read in just over a 24hour period, not sleeping very well certainly had it's advantages for me. Some brilliant twist and turns in this book and a lot I really didn't see coming, I love when a book can surprise me and this one certainly did that. Personally I have to say, that to fully enjoy this book then the series needs reading in order. It really will help to have the back history of a lot of the characters. When Annie Carter receives news that her friend Dolly Farrell is dead, she heads back to London. What then unfolds is a roller coaster of a ride, heart pounding, nail biting read. I was hooked from the beginning and I know we say it a lot about good books, but I really couldn't put this down. There is an awful lot packed into these pages, and it was good to read it over a short time period so my little mind didn't get lost. Some of our favourite characters from this series really show their colours here. How or where Jessie Keane gets her story idea's from I don't know, I just hope they continue for a long time to come. Thrilled to have finally caught up, and absolutely loved this book. It's a big 5 stars from me.
Only the lawless will survive . . .
It is 1975 and Ruby Darke is struggling to deal with the brutal murder of her lover, Michael Ward. As her children, Daisy and Kit, battle their own demons, her retail empire starts to crumble. Meanwhile, after the revenge killing of Tito Danieri, Kit is the lowest he's ever been. But soon doubt is thrown over whether Kit killed the right person, and now the Danieris are out for his blood and the blood of the entire Darke family. As the bodies pile up, the chase is on – can the Darkes resolve their own family conflicts and find Michael Ward's true killer before the vengeful Danieris kill them? Or will they take the law into their own hands . . . Lawless is the heart-racing sequel to Nameless, from bestselling author Jessie Keane. My thoughts. Well according to good old Amazon, 'You purchased this item on 19 July 2014'. so why the hell am I only just getting around to reading it. I trawled through my reviews and goodreads to double check if I had read it, yet as soon as I started it I knew I hadn't previously read it. How bad of me is that. Well as they say, better late than never. I really do need to stop buying books until I'm going to read them. lol I also had a feeling I hadn't read book 1 yet, although good reads is telling me I have, and some parts of this story the characters seemed familiar. Once I got going and slowly remembered some of the characters I was back in to the story. Ruby Darke, has lost her love, Michael and is trying to get on with life. It's not easy to do when your son seems to hate you, but is trying to help you as he promised Michael, Ruby's love, that he would look out for his mother. There is just trouble here, trouble at ever turn. Every few pages there is drama and more trouble. What a read this turned out to be. Ruby's son Kit, believes that Tito Danieri killed Michael, So its down to Kit to kill Tito. It doesn't mater who tries to tell him any different his mind set is set. Only one thing can happen when families clash. This book needs reading to enjoy it, and it needs you sat somewhere quiet where no one can disturb you until that last page. There are a good few twists and turns in this book that throw up a good few surprises. some amazing characters. Well worth reading. If you have read any of Jessie Keane's other books then you know what sort of treat you are in for, believe me this book really does not disappoint. I am now lucky that I have book 3 to read, while all characters are fresh in my mind, I really can't wait to see what happens. |
