Psychopaths can take root in the unlikeliest soil…
DC Maggie Jamieson crosses paths once again with Probation Officer Lucy Sherwood when a domestic violence survivor stumbles into her new refuge, unable to speak, desperate for help. Then another case hits Maggie’s desk. A young man has been murdered, and a curious constellation of black dots has been inked onto his cheek. That’s when DCI Hastings goes missing and Maggie uncovers a shocking connection that turns the case on its head. Every family may hide secrets, but not every family buries them…
Dead Secret by Noelle Holten, I can't believe that this is all ready the 4th book by this author. It doesn't seem long since reading her debut and I'm thrilled at the success this series has achieved. Since that first book I have eagerly awaited each new instalment and I have to say they are just getting better and better. I didn't think it was possible after the first book. I think this author has an advantage as a book blogger, she knows the sort of books people enjoy and she is now in a position to deliver the exact read that people want. Bravo Noelle, you are smashing this.
so Book 4, what did I think. Simple, loved it. The end. This is a fantastic addition to the series, familiar characters, new characters and a story that gets you involved, absorbed into the pages, wanting to read as quick as possible, then not wanting it to end. Its time that Maggie started to think of herself, too much work and not enough fun. But with a missing DCI is that going to be possible. While investigating a murder, it emerges that DCI Hastings is missing! But then it appears that his wife and daughter are also missing. Is Maggie taking on more than she can handle. A domestic case brings Maggie into contact with Lucy Sherwood, who has set up a shelter, a safe house to help people from domestic violence. But Who is this lady that needs help and what has happened to her, it's a struggle to find anything out. With everything going on in her life it's a wonder Maggie knows what day it is, but as always everything she does, she gives her all. I again found this book really engaging, not wanting to close the pages, needing to know what was happening. It really did pull me in, and oh my god, it spits you out at the end and leaves you gasping, needing more but knowing you are going to have for the next book to find out what is going to happen next. Fantastic ending.

‘Hugely confident … harrowing, visceral … recommended’ Ian Rankin
A murdered woman… When the body of a young woman is found in a local park, DC Maggie Jamieson knows she’s dealing with no ordinary killer. The murder victim has been disfigured; her outfit changed to resemble someone else. Someone Maggie knows all too well…her close friend Dr Kate Moloney. A determined detective… Maggie is determined to keep her friend safe, but with Kate already struggling with a threatening stalker, Maggie now fears Kate’s life is in real danger. Who else would want to harm Kate and why else would the killer be turning his victims into exact replicas – his living dolls? Can Maggie find the depraved killer? Or will Kate become his next living doll? ‘Kept me hooked’ Angela Marsons ‘An excellent read’ Martina Cole 'Gritty, dark and chilling’ Mel Sherratt
I really don't know what to write about this book. Just buy it doesn't seem enough. Firstly I really was looking forward to reading this book, I have read the authors first two books and loved them. So when I got the chance to read this I was foaming at the mouth to start it.
I did think maybe the author had put to much into the first two books and there was no way she could top those. How wrong was I! Noelle has delivered again. Being a book blogger, working in publishing and being an avid reader must really add to the authors writing as she just knows what her readers want. Something Gripping, addictive, chilling yet believable and it's all delivered here. Brilliant and believable characters and I have to say there was a character that appeared in this book that was also in book one and it's good to see her making something of her life. When the body of a young lady is found DC Maggie Jamieson has a terrible time, she's believing it's someone she knows. She's so grateful when she finds its not her friend Dr Kate Moloney. It seems the killer has dressed the victim to look like Kate. How sick is that, this shows what sort of monster they are dealing with. At the beginning of this book it's almost like Maggie is taking Kates stalker more serieously that Kate is. It isn't really to long before Kate seems to grasp how serious the matter is. I love a book that keeps you second guessing and keeps you on your toes the whole way through. It's dark and creepy in parts which makes it 'Dead Perfect' I'm loving this authors twisted mind.

Book Description:
‘Kept me hooked … excellent pace and a very satisfying ending’ Angela Marsons ‘An excellent read’ Martina Cole 'A brilliant debut – gritty, dark and chilling. Noelle Holten knows her stuff’ Mel Sherratt A dark and gripping debut crime novel – the first in a stunning new series – from a huge new talent. The killer is just getting started… When three wife beaters are themselves found beaten to death, DC Maggie Jamieson knows she is facing her toughest case yet. The police suspect that Probation Officer Lucy Sherwood – who is connected to all three victims – is hiding a dark secret. Then a fourth domestic abuser is brutally murdered. And he is Lucy’s husband. Now the police are running out of time, but can Maggie really believe her friend Lucy is a cold-blooded killer?
Well, well, well. What a debut this is. This book is going places. Thrilling from the first page to the last, brilliant story, brilliant characters, turns you wouldn't expect, wow, this book has it all. Everything you need for an unputdownable read.
It's hard to believe that this book is actually a debut. it's written like it's by an author who has many, many books under their belt. For a crime thriller it was great to see not only what goes on with the Police, but how some things worked in the probation side of it. I also loved the Characters, so many familiar names in there that I felt I already knew the characters and had their image in my head each time I read about them. I loved that the chapters were kept short, it gives you the chance to just keep saying one more chapter. There is just something I love about books with short chapters. Lucy was an amazing character to follow. Working for probation and specialising in Domestic abuse, Lucy is very good at the job she does. She is assertive and in control. If only this was the case in her private life. Lucy is the victim of domestic violence, you would think this would be something Lucy would get away from but her husband Patrick seems to have such an influence over her it's scary. It's almost like Lucy is playing the part of two different people. You have to read the book to fully understand this, Its amazing the effect Domestic Abuse has on people and how people can find ways of hiding it. Being fearful of her husband is something I really couldn't imagine for myself, as they say you never know what goes on behind closed doors. Patrick is a man you just want to hate, although he does seem to have a nice side somewhere it's a shame that side of him isn't the real Patrick. His character really got on my nerves, I don't mean in a way that put me off the book, I mean he was someone I could have happily done harm to. He frustrates me so much that he could be like he was with his wife. There are a whole host of other characters in this book that I really did like, and i'm hoping to meet them again when Noelle's second book comes out in November. The overall story of this book, even though it was based around a not so good subject of Domestic Abuse it was done fantastically. A fast paced plot, and a story you just lost yourself in. If you are going to read this book then please, clear your diary first. I can't believe i'd had this book on pre order for almost 7 months. It's safe to say it was well worth waiting for.
