Description
When you’re running the streets, loyalty is everything… Gangs rule the streets of the rough Gallowburn Estate in Glasgow, but the deepest rivalry of all is between Jamie Gray and his friends, known as the Blood Brothers, and their enemies, the Lawsons. The two gangs clash frequently, but when a phone containing incriminating evidence disappears after a particularly brutal run-in, the stakes are higher than ever. Jamie’s mother Jackie is as hard as nails and is not going to let anyone hurt her boy – even if she has to roll up her sleeves and get stuck in. What she wants more than anything though, is to see Jamie turn his back on the street life. And when he meets spoilt rich-girl Allegra, who has a penchant for shoplifting, Jackie thinks she could be Jamie’s way out. But with the Lawsons closing in, and everyone taking sides, there is only one way out for Jamie, and to triumph he must take out his biggest enemy… If you love Martina Cole, Kimberley Chambers, and Jessie Keane, you’ll love Heather Atkinson. Discover the bestselling author Heather Atkinson, her crackling plots, unforgettable characters and page-turning pace and you'll never look back... What readers are saying about Heather Atkinson: 'Another brilliant book from Heather...she really is one the best in the business. ' 'I have read ALL Heather Atkinson's books. They are all fantastic.' 'All Heather's books are action packed and have you on edge.' 'I stumbled upon Heather's books and I'm so glad I did , characters excellent and storylines are great , I find myself searching the book stores for more of them to read the minute I finish one.'
The first book in what I can only say is going to be an epic series. This author has written some of my favourite book series ever. I have loved each and every book by this author and believe me there are a lot.
In this book as her others, Heather has created some outstanding, memorable characters. A lot of these characters wil stay in your mind long after finishing this book. There is a hidden sense of humour in these books along with the gripping, gritty sometimes gruesome story. To be honest when I first started reading this I thought it was a little tame compared to some of Heathers other books. But don't let that put you off, once this book ramps up and you have gotten to know everyone it really sucks you in. You will fly through the pages. So, book 1 is set in Glasgow on the Gallowburn estate. Another of those estates that you love to read about, but don't want to live on. An estate where family and loyalty is important as is being able to look after yourself. 4 Guys from the estate known as The Blood Brothers, 4 friends, Jamie, Gary, Digger and Logan. Each on a character in their own right, the book is based around Jamie and his family, his frying pan lover of a mother and his younger Brother Charlie. The Lawsons are The Blood Brothers, rivals. when they clash there is always trouble. While working a local shop Jamie meets Allegra Abernethy, there story then turns into one crazy adventure. Jamie being from the estate and Allegra the daughter of a very controlling, rich, criminal father. She likes to spend her days away from home and away from her father. I especially loved Jackie, Jamie's mum in this book, what a great character she is. she will have no one upsetting her cubs, Mamma bear will be there with her weapon of choice in her hand. Her frying pan. Also Ephraim, he seems like such an oddball character you can't help but like him. The whole cast of this book are amazing in their own rights, the story flows brilliantly and you are whisked along on a bumpy rollercoaster of a ride. A must read for anyone who like the gritty gangland books. First class..

Will they catch the killer before someone else is silenced for good...
Detective Hanlon is addicted to violence. She likes the rush, the danger, the losing control... When Hanlon is suspended from the force for assaulting a suspect, she escapes to the remote Scottish island of Jura, home to the mysterious Corryvreckan whirlpool. But wherever Hanlon goes, violence is sure to follow. As soon as she checks into The Mackinnon Arms, Hanlon senses something isn't quite right about the staff at her home for the week. Sure enough, within days of arriving, the body of a member of staff is found floating in the sea. While police believe she was claimed by the local whirlpool, Hanlon isn't so sure. As she pieces together the evidence, dark secrets begin to unravel. Can Hanlon work out what is going on before another floating body is found...? Discover an addictive new crime series, perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Bryndza and Lisa Regan. Don't judge a book by it's cover. Isn't that what they say. Well I do, I know I shouldn't but heyho….. This cover when I saw it really reminded me of a book I've previously read and I loved that book, so decided I needed to also read this one. It's a great read, interesting and will keep your attention while reading. This is a new author for me and as always I really enjoy finding out what is on offer. Detective Hanlon is addicted to violence. She likes the rush, the danger, the losing control... Fancy that a cop with issues, a cop who likes violence, well I was a little suprised as Detective Hanlon is introduced to us, just how much she does like violence. Hanlon has been suspended from duty on the force for her violent behaviour. So having no work to attend then the best thing is to get away. Somewhere nice and quiet to relax, where she can't get into trouble. NO, thats not on the cards either. She does get away, somewhere nice, somewhere that sounds very nice, a small island in Scotland. It soon becomes clear that trouble follows Hanlon about because obviously she doesn't go looking for it... There really are a number of odd characters through this book, but it was fun getting to know some of them. Hanlong becomes involved in the case of a girl who has been found dead, she can't help herself but get involved in the investigation. There is so much more going on in this book, I really don't want to be giving anything away, but it's worth a read, it's a very easy read at less that 300 pages it didn't seem to take long. I read this over a couple of days. The plot is interesting, you are kept guessing at the who and why, it would be a great read for any armchair detective.
A Walk in Wildflower Park was originally published as a four-part serial. This is the complete story in one package.
Life’s not always a walk in the park…Anna thought she’d found The One – until he broke off their engagement exactly a year before their wedding day. Hoping new surroundings will do her the world of good, she moves in to a place of her own on the edge of gorgeous Wildflower Park. With the help and friendship of her neighbour Sophie (a stressed-out mum whose children a regular source of newly-invented swear words and unidentifiable sticky surfaces), Anna quickly settles in and pledges to focus on her career, but a handsome new colleague seems determined to thwart her attempts at every turn. And when she receives a text from a mystery man, it looks as though an unlikely romance is on the horizon… Is Anna about to be swept off her feet by someone she really shouldn’t be falling for? Or could this be the new start she needs and deserves? Full of warmth and humour, this charming novel will delight fans of Debbie Johnson, Cathy Bramley and Jill Mansell.
Playlist
As I’m writing my novel I like to make a playlist of songs that feel appropriate and match to different scenes in the story. I see my book just like it’s a film so having a soundtrack makes perfect sense to me. And it’ll be very handy if the wonderful Richard Curtis ever comes knocking (well, an author can dream!) Different songs conjure up different moods and I think the mixture of tracks reflects the book. There are times of fun and happiness but the characters go through low points and struggles too. The songs span a wide date range, which says more about my eclectic taste in music than anything else but certainly makes my playlists unique. For A Walk in Wildflower Park I’ve found it tricky to whittle down my list because there have been so many songs that have felt like they fitted perfectly. The story spans the four seasons of the year and ends at Christmas so the music I’ve chosen reflects this but I didn’t need much of excuse to get Fairytale of New York on there! Here’s the final list: Wildflowers by Tom Petty One Kiss by Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa Build Me Up Buttercup by The Foundations Cherry Blossom Girl by Air Walks Like Rhianna by The Wanted Dreams by The Cranberries Gone by N Sync In Demand by Texas It’s Raining Men by the Weather Girls New York by Paloma Faith Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty McColl Christmas (Baby please come home) by Darlene Love Here’s a link to the playlist on Spotify - |
