Three missing women running out of time… They were abducted years ago. Notorious serial killer Bill Raven admitted to killing them and was sentenced to life. The case was closed – at least DC Maggie Jamieson thought it was… But now one of them has been found, dismembered and dumped in a bin bag in town. Forensics reveal that she died just two days ago, when Raven was behind bars, so Maggie has a second killer to find. Because even if the other missing women are still alive, one thing’s for certain: they don’t have long left to live…
My thoughts.
I was thrilled what I was given the chance to be part of the blog tour for this book. I read Noelle's first book, Dead Inside and absolutely loved it, a fantastic read from start to finish, this means I was sooooo excited to read this the 2nd book in this series. I love how the first book was Lucy's story where this book is more Maggie's story. That said I would read these books in order. Considering this is only the authors second book it's written like it's been done by a life long author, Noelle being a reader, blogger and now Author really knows what is needed to grab the reader in, keep hold and spit them out at the end exhaused and needing more. DC Maggie Jamieson really does have her work cut out for this case. When serial killer Bill Raven comes back into her life it's unsure if Maggie can actually handle this one. Bill Raven is in prison after being found guilty of the murders of three women, these murders he actually confessed to. But when the body of one of these women turns up it's clear that he couldn't have killed her as he said he did as she'd only just been recently killed and Bill Raven was inside. Maggie really has her work cut out and at times doubts herself. But she is certain she has the correct killer behind bars. 'isn't she' Maggie can't comprehend the possibility that she has the wrong person locked up, but if he didn't do the crime why did he confess. A brilliant story line that you can really get into, this book makes you need to keep reading, I couldn't wait to actually find out what had gone wrong, what had happened and more so what had Maggie done. The excitement builds the more you read, it's exciting and breath taking, at times I had to stop and tell myself to breathe. I can not wait to see what is in store for us in book 3, wow, wow, wow. Noelle has set the barr high with this one, can she smash book 3, can't flipping wait.

Natasha Mayston wasn’t expecting anyone to knock on her door so late at night. And she has no idea that the face staring back at her is the last one she’ll ever see…
As Detective Dan Lockhart is called to a wealthy London street to investigate Natasha’s death, he’s startled by the similarity to a previous case. Noticing the cable-tie restraints and the tiny scratches on Natasha’s wedding finger, Dan already knows what he will find if he looks in her mouth – the metal ball which choked her to death. He knows Natasha isn’t the killer’s first victim and is certain that he will strike again. Months earlier, Kim Hardy was found in the same position in a run-down hotel across the city – an identical silver ball in her throat. But Kim’s murderer was caught and sent to prison – did they arrest the wrong man? And what connects the two victims? Fearing that he’s dealing with a psychopathic serial killer, Dan calls in psychologist Dr Lexi Green to help him to get into the perpetrator’s mind. Tough and smart, Lexi will stop at nothing to hunt down the man responsible for the deaths. Then, another body is discovered, just as Lexi finds a clue online leading to the killer. Dan’s team aren’t convinced, but in pushing Lexi away from the investigation, they force her to dig further into the case on her own. Convinced that she’s on to something, she puts herself in unthinkable danger… but can Dan piece together the clues and identify the killer before it’s too late? Fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Cara Hunter will love this thrilling new series from Chris Merritt. From an explosive start to a heart-stopping finale, you will not want to put this book down!
I was thrilled when I saw this book. I have read some of this authors other work and got a little giddy when I noticed this was the start of a new series. I feel this introduction to Detective Dan Lockhart and Dr Green was brilliant. I love getting to know new characters. These are 2 characters I can really see building through futer books. I think they have a lot to offer us readers and I cant wait to see what Chris Merritt decideds for them.
I found that i needed to keep reading that I wanted to know the who, why etc. A few times I thought I had the answers, but clearly I didn't which was a great way of putting those twists in there, making you feel you know what s coming. You don't so you then have to continue. It was interesting getting to know our new characters as I said, Dan Lockhart is a married man, but his wife went missing and he hasn't seen her since. This is always at the back of his mind when he's going about his work and everyday life, it will be interesting to see how that part of the story develops, i'm just hoping it's not something that is going to go on forever like another crime authors books. I do feel this was certainly a well written book with a story to keep you hooked, and I really do look forward to what will come in future books. Now is the time to treat yourself and order this book, start a new series and enjoy your reading.
Gemma is about to risk it all for the man she loves. Will she survive entering into a life of crime?
Gemma has always been there for Nathan. He's the love of her life and she made a commitment to him, one she'd never consider breaking... until smooth-talking gangster Alfie Watson comes into their lives and changes everything. Alfie doesn't care about true love – he wants Gemma, and the gangster always gets what he wants. When Nathan ends up owing him money, Alfie gets payback by recruiting Gemma to carry out a jewellery heist. To everyone's surprise, she's a natural. Until Alfie forgives Nathan's debt, she has no choice but to accompany the gangster on more and more daring heists – even though one slip-up could cost her everything. Nathan might have fallen under Alfie's spell, but it doesn't take long for him to realise that he needs to save Gemma from his own mistakes if their marriage is to have any chance of surviving. But when that means taking on the East End's most notorious gangster at his own game, will he find himself up to the challenge? Perfect for fans of Kimberley Chambers, Emma Tallon and Jessie Keane.
A brilliant read. A new author for me but one I will be looking out for in the future. Gemma finds out her husband owes money to the towns Mr Nasty. No one in their right mind borrow money of Alfie Watson. Unfortunatly Nathan Gemma's husband didn't seem to have recieved that memo.
Once you owe Alfie Watson Money, that's it you belong to him and you pay back for as long as he decideds and in whatever way he sees fit. He's a nasty piece of work. A brilliant gangland thriller that fan's of this genre will love. I can highly recommend it.
If someone was in your house, you’d know … Wouldn’t you? But the Hunter family are deaf, and don’t hear a thing when a shocking crime takes place in the middle of the night. Instead, they wake up to their worst nightmare: the murder of their daughter.
The police call Paige Northwood to the scene to interpret for the witnesses. They’re in shock, but Paige senses the Hunters are hiding something. One by one, people from Paige’s community start to fall under suspicion. But who would kill a little girl? Was it an intruder? Or was the murderer closer to home? This mystery will keep you up all night – perfect for fans of The Silent Patient and Cara Hunter‘Sinister, layered, atmospheric … I couldn’t turn the pages quickly enough’ Debbie Howells ‘A nail-biting page-turner of a thriller … The sense of a community isolated, and all the conflicts and tensions that brings, adds satisfying layers of complexity’ James Oswald ‘Delicate, brutal, impossible to put down. The Silent House is a disquieting thriller’ Ross Armstrong
Well, well. What a good little book that turned out to be. I really wasn't sure what to expect from this book, a new author for me, a debut and the family featured are deaf. I couldn't wait to start.
I do think the author has managed to write this book very well, It was intriguing and interesting. It kept my interest the whole way through. I can't imagine waking and knowing someone had been in your house. But for someone to get in and commit murder while you are sleeping, wow, that's scary. More so when there was never any chance of you hearing anything because you are deaf. It's reading things like this that really make you sit up and realise what an honour it is to be able to hear. Paige Northwood is a British sign language interpreter, she is called in to help the Hunter family and the police. Paige is effectively the voice for deaf. Paige does seem to get herself a little too close to the investigation, she needs reminding occasionally that she is there to help. Yet Paige is convinced the family are not telling her everything. Someone is keepng secrets, can Paige get the police to listen to her before she's kicked off for interfering. The tension and mystery in this book is put together very well, I think because it seems unique with the characters being deaf, it really adds to the story it adds to the tension, it helps the story flow really well. It's brilliantly written considering it's a debut and I know i'll be looking out for more books by this author. I not only wanted to keep reading, i needed to keep reading.

Well, well, well, book 11. I never thought when I first started to read these books that it would be so so addictive. I absolutely love this series. The author is a first class writer and knows just what us, her readers want. I have loved each and every book and I can't recommend them highly enough.
I will say to read them in order. Mainly because you will learn and grow with the characters. When I'm reading these books now it almost feels like a family reunion when I pick on up. Nothing I say will get across just how much I love this series, and it's one I think everyone should read. Each time I finish one i'm counting down the time until the next one, and each time I think the author is going to stuggle to better that one, boom, she does it no problem. I could read about these characters daily, I'd love to see some sort of series with Nikki and Joseph in on tv, it would be addictive viewing. Joy's writing makes you actually feel lke you are with these characters, you can sense where they are a picture yourself being there with them. they are descriptive enough to let you feel like you are part of the story. I remember first being intoduced to Nikki, and then her having Joseph almost forced upon her, Nikki liked her own space, liked to work alone, I love how she has changed. She's still a no nonsence person but seems to tollerate people a little better. I really don't know what else to say, I can't recommend this series highly enough, and I think once you start it you'll also be addicted. DI Nikki Galena series books in order:- Book 1: CRIME ON THE FENS Book 2: SHADOW OVER THE FENS Book 3: HUNTED ON THE FENS Book 4: KILLER ON THE FENS Book 5: STALKER ON THE FENS Book 6: CAPTIVE ON THE FENS Book 7: BURIED ON THE FENS Book 8: THIEVES ON THE FENS Book 9: FIRE ON THE FENS Book 10: DARKNESS ON THE FENS Book 11: HIDDEN ON THE FENS |
