BROKEN is the second book in the DI Kate Burrows series: the only time Sunday Times bestseller Martina Cole has written from the perspective of the Old Bill. The 'undisputed queen of crime writing' (Guardian), Martina's unique, powerful storytelling will appeal to fans of Karin Slaughter and Patricia Cornwell.
Children in Grantley are disappearing. At first they are found unscathed, but when one meets a dark end DI Kate Burrows knows the clock is ticking. Pushed to her limits, Kate needs the support of her lover now more than ever. But ex-gangster Patrick Kelly has troubles of his own. It's her toughest case yet, but Kate will stop at nothing to solve it. Even if it breaks her.
Broken is the second book to feature Di Kate Burrows. I first read this book Eleventy billion years ago. Or maybe around 17 years ago when it first come out.
I have decided to do a re read of this series so far, ready for Martina's new Book Damaged which is due out later this month. Having just finished the first book in my reread marathon, I couldn't wait to start this one. It's funny how much of a book you actually forget, and it was great being back with DI Kate Burrows and Patrick Kelly. This is proving to be a tough case for Kate, Children are going missing, It seems their mothers are seen trying to get rid of them. The children turn up and of course the Mothers deny everything. Can Kate and her team figure out what is going on, can they get anywhere with such a complex case, when it turns out things really are not as they seem, the case ramps up a level, and finding the answers become a little tougher. As well as work mounting up and becoming difficult, Kate is faced with problems with here gangster lover Patrick Kelly. Can this bond they think they have together ride out the storm, before the storm turns nasty. Another gripping read, and onto the next one, Hard Girls for me next. Have you read this book? What did you think? Leave a comment below and let us know.

But Kate has a problem. The Grantley Ripper has attacked the daughter of one of London's most infamous gangsters, Patrick Kelly, and now Kate's investigation, along with her heart, are dangerously entwined with him. As the worlds of crime and law collide, will Kate take down the Ladykiller, or will he be her undoing?

Oh my dayz.... It's difficult to get my head around the fact that I first read this book over 20 years ago. It's actually just over 23 years, as I was reading this around the time I went on my first date with my now Hubby. I remember my mum laughing when I was going out, saying "be careful he drives the same car as George Markham" you'll understand the reference more if you have or when you do read the book. Anyway back to the book. I have just done a re read of this book, and you know what, it is just as good now as it was way back then. It's not a book that has dated with time, you don't feel that its an old book if that makes sense. I have read this at least 4 times over the years, but with the amount of books I get through it's easy to forget a lot of what happened. I knew a lot of things that happened but couldn't remember how the story joined, how it all come together. And it was just as enjoyable this time around. This book is certainly one of my all time favorited reads ever, and definitely my all time favourite of Martina Cole books. I do feel for me personally the older books of Martina's are certainly the best. George Markham, what a character. DI Kate Burrows is searching for a killer, a killer that has been named as The Grantley Ripper. When The Grantley Ripper attacks The Daugher of one of London's well known Faces, Patrick Kelly, He's out for blood. And investigating office Di Kate Burrows is soon caught up with him, mixing her work life and her private life could be the end of Kate. This is a gripping unputdownable read. And well worth reading this series in order. The LadyKiller Broken Hard Girls Damaged (published Sept 2017) |
