Melissa Sanderson is the perfect wife and mother. She dotes on her daughter, and lives in her dream home in a quiet cul-de-sac in the suburbs.
But looks can be deceiving. Something is amiss in that house – all the neighbours think so. Some say Melissa is having an affair. Others say she’s been drinking too much. Then one night, sirens wake up the whole neighbourhood. Melissa Sanderson is dead. Another great read from this very talented author. 4/5*
I couldn't wait to start this book. After reading book one I knew to expect a high standard of reading and a story that was going to grip you. I wasn't disappointed.
Melissa Sanderson seems to be the lady that has it all, the perfect life. We always say though, you never know what goes on behind closed doors. Living with her husband Darrell and their beautiful baby girl Mia. Life is about to change in this lovely cul-de-sac. Detective Gina Harte has just arrived back from a holiday, she's not even had time to get changed before she's back working. Working a murder case that is not only confusing but brutal. There are a number of characters in this book that I really didn't like. ( I don't think I was supposed to like them) You have the feeling of knowing what is going to happen, yet there is nothing you can do. This book was brilliantly written, and I'm concerned should I write any of what went on in the story, it would give away to many spoilers, and I don't want to be doing that. What I can say is this book grips you, it keeps you going, keeps you wanting and needing more. It has you holding your breath, the suspense is wonderfully done. Getting to know Gina Harte just that little bit more is good, I can see a lot more good coming from this character, and I for one certainly can't wait for the next instalment.

DescriptionShe thought he’d come to save her. She was wrong.
Deborah Jenkins pulls her coat around her as she sets out on her short walk home in the pouring rain. But she never makes it home that night. And she is never seen again … Four years later, an abandoned baby girl is found wrapped in dirty rags on a doorstep. An anonymous phone call urges the police to run a DNA test on the baby. But nobody is prepared for the results. The newborn belongs to Deborah. She’s still alive. If you love Lisa Gardner, Patricia Gibney and Robert Bryndza, you’ll love this jaw-dropping new crime thriller from Carla Kovach. The Next Girl will keep you guessing until the very last page.
I just love it when I find myself a new author. This is book one in what I believe is going to be a series of books.
We are introduced to Detective Gina Harte. It's great getting to know new characters and I think Gina Harte is going to be a great character to follow. What a brilliant story this is, with a great start to the book. 'Old Albert is making his way home from the pub, when he notices a bundle of litter in the doorway of the library. Crossing the road to pick it up and put it in the bin, he realises that it isn't a bundle of rubbish. it's actually a newborn baby wrapped in a blanket. Shocked he manages to get himself to a nearby house, to alert someone and get the emergency services here. The baby suffering from hypothermia, is rushed to hospital by the paramedics. I was holding my breath the whole way through this. Something drastic has to have happened for someone to leave their new born like this. Investigating the case is DI Gina Harte, and when they receive an anonymous call to do a DNA test on the baby, they certainly were not expecting to find out what they did. Gina and her team are eagre to get this case solved, and the team give it their all. What a great, thrilling, page turner this book turned out to be. I will certainly be looking forward to reading more from this author, and look forward to meeting Gina Harte again. |
