Stay Dead is the heartstopping sixth book in Jessie Keane's bestselling Annie Carter series. Annie Carter finally believes that life is good. She and Max are back together and she has a new and uncomplicated life sunning herself in Barbados. It's what she's always dreamed of. Then she gets the news that her old friend Dolly Farrell is dead, and suddenly she finds herself back in London and hunting down a murderer with only one thing on her mind . . . revenge. But the hunter can so quickly become the hunted, and Annie has been keeping too many secrets. She's crossed and bettered a lot of people over the years, but this time the enemy is a lot closer to home and she may just have met her match . . .
Go me, another book read from my back log of books. Good old Amazon informed me I'd purchased this book in 2016, I really thought I was up to date with this series, but clearly I wasn't. It was only after I'd just read LAWLESS that I decided to check what other outstanding books I had by this author and come across this one.
I've loved my little Jessie Keane binge, it's cemented again my thoughts that this lady certainly can write a page turner. Annie Carter at her best, this book I have read in just over a 24hour period, not sleeping very well certainly had it's advantages for me. Some brilliant twist and turns in this book and a lot I really didn't see coming, I love when a book can surprise me and this one certainly did that. Personally I have to say, that to fully enjoy this book then the series needs reading in order. It really will help to have the back history of a lot of the characters. When Annie Carter receives news that her friend Dolly Farrell is dead, she heads back to London. What then unfolds is a roller coaster of a ride, heart pounding, nail biting read. I was hooked from the beginning and I know we say it a lot about good books, but I really couldn't put this down. There is an awful lot packed into these pages, and it was good to read it over a short time period so my little mind didn't get lost. Some of our favourite characters from this series really show their colours here. How or where Jessie Keane gets her story idea's from I don't know, I just hope they continue for a long time to come. Thrilled to have finally caught up, and absolutely loved this book. It's a big 5 stars from me.

Only the lawless will survive . . .
It is 1975 and Ruby Darke is struggling to deal with the brutal murder of her lover, Michael Ward. As her children, Daisy and Kit, battle their own demons, her retail empire starts to crumble. Meanwhile, after the revenge killing of Tito Danieri, Kit is the lowest he's ever been. But soon doubt is thrown over whether Kit killed the right person, and now the Danieris are out for his blood and the blood of the entire Darke family. As the bodies pile up, the chase is on – can the Darkes resolve their own family conflicts and find Michael Ward's true killer before the vengeful Danieris kill them? Or will they take the law into their own hands . . . Lawless is the heart-racing sequel to Nameless, from bestselling author Jessie Keane. My thoughts. Well according to good old Amazon, 'You purchased this item on 19 July 2014'. so why the hell am I only just getting around to reading it. I trawled through my reviews and goodreads to double check if I had read it, yet as soon as I started it I knew I hadn't previously read it. How bad of me is that. Well as they say, better late than never. I really do need to stop buying books until I'm going to read them. lol I also had a feeling I hadn't read book 1 yet, although good reads is telling me I have, and some parts of this story the characters seemed familiar. Once I got going and slowly remembered some of the characters I was back in to the story. Ruby Darke, has lost her love, Michael and is trying to get on with life. It's not easy to do when your son seems to hate you, but is trying to help you as he promised Michael, Ruby's love, that he would look out for his mother. There is just trouble here, trouble at ever turn. Every few pages there is drama and more trouble. What a read this turned out to be. Ruby's son Kit, believes that Tito Danieri killed Michael, So its down to Kit to kill Tito. It doesn't mater who tries to tell him any different his mind set is set. Only one thing can happen when families clash. This book needs reading to enjoy it, and it needs you sat somewhere quiet where no one can disturb you until that last page. There are a good few twists and turns in this book that throw up a good few surprises. some amazing characters. Well worth reading. If you have read any of Jessie Keane's other books then you know what sort of treat you are in for, believe me this book really does not disappoint. I am now lucky that I have book 3 to read, while all characters are fresh in my mind, I really can't wait to see what happens. Eye for an Eye: A DI Jessica Daniel Novel 12 by Kerry Wilkinson @kerrywk #JessicaDaniel #EyeForAnEye7/1/2018
In bestselling crime author Kerry Wilkinson's Eye for an Eye, DI Jessica Daniel is tasked with multiple investigations while facing demons from her past.
Seventeen years ago, Damian Walker abducted five women because the voices in his head told him to. Now he has been declared sane and is about to be released back onto Manchester’s streets with a new identity. But within hours, there is another attack similar to his previous ones. Walker has proof it’s not him – but is he reliable, and, if so, who is trying to frame him? DI Jessica Daniel and her chief are given a parallel task to the main investigation: Keep an eye on Walker – but that’s not all Jessica has to do. Rock star Blaine Banner is playing a series of homecoming gigs but is convinced someone’s trying to kill him, while a bride-to-be is picketing the police station, demanding someone finds her missing fiancé. All the while, faces from Jessica’s past are watching and waiting. Someone wants a word . . .
4.5/5
I love the Jessica Daniel series, I have followed this series right from book 1, and each new book is eagerly awaited. I still can't believe we are at book 12. Kerry Wilkinson certainly has a knack to story telling. Jessica is still getting involved in everything that is thrown her way, she is a brilliant and believable character. I also enjoy the banter as well as the serious side of her and her work colleagues. Jessica is work, work, work because it's the only thing that keeps her active, keeps her mind from wandering to where she doesn't want it wandering. Things are going on is Jessica's private life and the only way she can deal with them, is by not thinking of them and she pushes everything to the back of her mind, she gets stuck into work to avoid having to face the reality of what is happening. Rock star Blaine Banner is playing in town, but he's convinced someone is out to kill him. He seam's to think Jessica is his personal officer investigating for him. Although he's a huge mega star Jessica just doesn't see the interest others see, and I really liked the way Jessica was around him. Is someone trying to kill him or is his drug and drink fuelled lifestyle just playing tricks on his mind. Along side this Damian Walker a convicted murderer is released with a new identity that he doesn't want. Jessica is tasked to Keep an eye on him. However not long after his release another murder is committed, similar to the murders he was convicted of. Has he murdered again, because he seems to have some sort of proof that it wasn't him. Could this be wrong, or has a sick killer been released onto the streets of Manchester. I really can't wait for more from this series. Another exceptional story, a read to get your teeth into. Wilkinson has a great knack for telling a great story and he's certainly done that here. If you like a great series then this one is well worth reading, and it's worth reading the books in order. I'm not saying you have to, but for a series its always worth starting at book 1. Happy reading. |
