Carol Wyre - The Chosen One. #Review @CarolWyer @Bookouture ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #BlogTour #TheChosenOnes25/5/2018 Thrilled to be taking part in the Blog Tour for a series I've grown to love. They had not been forgiven. And they would never be forgotten …. This is a series I have thoroughly been enjoying. I was excited at the way the story started as I had some questions still from the previous book, and I was eager to get started to find out what was happening. It's a must read series, and my personal opinion is that the books are read in order. Carol has done a superb job with this one, wow what a read! It's safe to say I enjoyed it, and I enjoyed it A LOT! We still have the story of Davies running through the background of this book, and I really thought I was going to get my answers in this book, I think Carol is being a bit of a tease now, as I have to wait for the next book. It's a wait I don't want, I want answers and I want them now. lol Detective Robyn Carter is faced with a new case, the body of a young man has been found in a farmers field. The team are soon on the case, trying to find any background on this young man and what could have been the reasons for his killing. Before long another body is found. Robyn and her team are working like hell to find if there is a link here. It really has you thinking if there is a link and what It could be. There is clearly a cold hearted killer out there, the reasons for the killing I just couldn't work out. I tell you what though, as I neared the ending of the book, it's safe to say I would have never guessed, and the reasonings behind things were awesome. Carol Wyer has written this book just brilliantly. Twisty and edge of you seat reading here, and any crime thriller fan will love this one, I'm totally blown away with it. Certainly the best one yet.

Love, Lies and Wedding Cake by Sue Watson @Bookouture @SueWatsonwriter ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #BlogTour #Review23/5/2018 Can I just start with, I was soooooo excited when I knew this book was coming out.
An absolutely hilarious, laugh-‘til-you-cry, romantic comedy about how life never quite goes to plan…
Faye Dobson is in crisis. You wouldn’t know it, because of the big fat smile on her face, but inside, she’s one step away from nuclear meltdown. And she shouldn’t be. Dan ?? is the man of her dreams. Her really quite energetic dreams, that frequently come true. Sometimes twice in one night. And he’s just asked her to marry him. But Faye’s been down the marriage road before and it ended up with her having Ryan Gosling fantasies while her ex-husband obsessed about the plumbing. The actual plumbing. Faye and Dan have been living their lives to the fullest, travelling around the world, having sex under the stars... They haven’t argued about unrolling socks before putting them in the laundry. Besides, even if she wanted to say yes, how could she move to the other side of the world? Because marrying Dan would mean living in Australia. Beautiful, warm and a gazillion miles from Faye’s daughter, Emma, a single mum with her own crazy little girl who both need Faye every single day. Leaving them – even for someone who makes her laugh as much as Dan – simply isn’t an option. Dan is offering Faye everything she ever wanted. So why does she feel like she’s about to lose it all? Love, Lies and Wedding Cake
OHHH my dayzzz, was I happy to get my mitts on this book. I need to start with, if you haven't read any of Sue Watsons books, then where the hell have you been.
Her books, are awesomely funny, with amazing storylines. Sue Watson has a knack of writing books that make you feel good, once you've read some of Sue's books you'd understand what I mean when I say, just looking at the covers makes you smile. Sitting down with these books, you feel like a big fluffy duvet has been wrapped around you. (oh wait it has) Hot Chocolate, a slice of cake, turn the phone off, lock the door. Once you start, there really is no stopping you. The books are adictive, easy to read, and fun. I have to admit you do get some funny looks if your out in public while reading these, with a stupid grin on your face, and laughing out loud. Anyway, back to this book. Love, Lies and Wedding Cake. The book has such a real life feel to it. You can actually picture yourself in the places described, doing the thing that the characters are doing, it really does feel like real life. It's certainly a welcome escape from my real life. lol I absolutely adored this book. There is a great mix of characters, some of them are first class. I loved Faye, I love the banter she had in the salon with Mandy and how her 4 year old grandaughter Rosie picked up on everything she shouldn't pick up on. Some of the scenes in this book had me helpless. Faye and Dan are in love, doing the things that make both of them happy. Living life to the full. That is until Dan pops the question. It's not that Faye is against marriage, it's more that with that marriage comes the reality that for it to happen, Faye would have to move to the other side of the world. Dan wants her to move to Australia with him. Faye can't do that, she has a course she's finishing, a job, a daughter and a granddaughter that need her. How on earth could she move to the other side of the world. It's just not going to happen. There is so so much I want to say about this book, and I know nothing I write is ever going to do the book any justice. It's a first class, funny, in parts hilarious read. Yet it also carries an element of ' if you want it, go get it' Stop letting things get in your way. Stop making obstacles for yourself. If you are going away this year, or just plan on sitting in your garden or even sitting in the park in your lunch break, this is the book you need with you.

Sue Watson was a journalist then a TV Producer at the BBC until she realised that instead of working, she could stay at home, and write about exciting things like foreign travel and cake! So far Sue's written twelve books, and some have been translated into Italian, German and Portuguese (she's big in Brazil!) Originally from Manchester, Sue now lives with her husband and teenage daughter in Worcestershire where her days are spent baking (and eating) lots of cake, while making big life decisions about whether to have Caramel Chew Chew or Salted Caramel ice cream while watching 'My 600lb Life,' on the sofa. How far would you go to protect your darkest secrets?
When teenager Sadie Winter jumps from the roof of her school, her death is ruled as suicide – a final devastating act from a troubled girl. But then the broken body of a young boy is discovered at the same school and it’s clear to Detective Kim Stone that these deaths are not tragic accidents. As Kim and her team begin to unravel a dark web of secrets, one of the teachers could hold the key to the truth. Yet just as she is about to break her silence, she is found dead. With more children’s lives at risk, Kim has to consider the unthinkable - whether a fellow pupil could be responsible for the murders. Investigating the psychology of children that kill brings the detective into contact with her former adversary, Dr Alex Thorne – the sociopath who has made it her life’s work to destroy Kim. Desperate to catch the killer, Kim finds a link between the recent murders and an initiation prank that happened at the school decades earlier. But saving these innocent lives comes at a cost – and one of Kim’s own might pay the ultimate price. The utterly addictive new crime thriller from the Number One bestselling author – you will be gripped until the final shocking twist. I can just see most reviews for this book will be starting with something along the line of 'Wow, Where do I start' only worded better. I truly don't know what to say, How can you better your last 7 books when those 7 were fantastic reads. I don't just mean improve the next one a little bit. Somehow Angela Marsons manages smash the last brillientness of the book and better it ten fold. Angela I don't know how the hell you do it, but please, keep on doing it. The tension, the atmosphere, the build up, everything about this book was just Spot on. I feel like I've been on one hell of a ride with this story. The nail biting is that intense, these books should come with a free manicure. So Dying Truth. We are off again with some familiar faces, character we have been getting to know over 8 books. Characters that have really grown and feel as though they have become real friends. I have to start with Kim Stone. Now I don't know what it is about this character but I love reading about her. The familiarity while reading is almost like it's someone you personally know. The book kicks off with Stone and Bryant attending an emergency at a school, where 13 year old Sadie Winter has jumped off the roof of her school. How could such a young girl have such problems that she feels the only answer is to kill herself? Everything seems to point to suicide. Only Detective Inspector Kim Stone, has other thoughts and once she gets something in her head, there is no changing her mind. It's not long after that another child is found dead. Kim Stone is certain that these are not suicide attempts or just accidents, Kim know's in her mind that these deaths are connected. I really did look forward to each time I got the chance to pick up this book. A first class read that I feel will be difficult to top. Yet I have no doubt it will be topped. It's going to be damn interesting to see where Angela Marsons takes this series. This is easiest the best book of the series, but i'm sure I keep saying that each time a new one comes out. This has certainly gone onto my 2018 MUST READ list.
Personally I feel these books should be read in order. I think you would get the best reading experience by doing so.

THE SERIAL KILLER ISN'T ON TRIAL.
HE'S ON THE JURY... **************** 'THIRTEEN is my favourite read of the year.' Sarah Pinborough 'Outstanding.' Lee Child 'Smart and original. This is a belter of a book.' Clare Mackintosh **************** They were Hollywood's hottest power couple. They had the world at their feet. Now one of them is dead and Hollywood star Robert Solomon is charged with the brutal murder of his beautiful wife. This is the celebrity murder trial of the century and the defence want one man on their team: con artist turned lawyer Eddie Flynn. All the evidence points to Robert's guilt, but as the trial begins a series of sinister incidents in the court room start to raise doubts in Eddie's mind. What if there's more than one actor in the courtroom? What if the killer isn't on trial? What if the killer is on the jury?
I hadn't realised when I started this book that it was actually book 4 in the Eddie Flynn series. I'm normally so good at checking things like that out before I read the book. I hate reading books that are part way through a series, I love to get to know the characters from day 1.
That said, I don't think it took to much away from the reading experience I had. Eddie Flynn seems like a great character, the author has done brilliant with him. I enjoyed the pace of the book, the way the story flowed, a very clever plot. The writing is first class here. I loved the idea of the killer hiding on the Jury, but couldn't understand how that would work, yet it did, it worked brilliantly. Eddie is defending a hollywood superstar after he is charged with the murder of his wife and bodyguard. The tension and adrenaline running though this book makes it one hell of a thrilling ride. A ride you won't want to get off. There is so much more going on in this book, I fear going on about it to much as i'd end up giving something away and spoiling it, and we don't want now. So what I will say is, it is well worth reading, pick it up and see for yourself. I now feel I need to go back and read the other books, then give this one a re-read in the correct order. I managed to read this book over the course of a day and a half. I with so many damn good books around at the moment it's a wonder I ever get chance to do anything else. I look forward to reading more from this author.
The explosive sequel to #1 Sunday Times bestseller Bad Blood.
Set 18 years later, Hidden Sin is the story of Joey, his girlfriend Paula and Rasta Mo, the man he is to discover is his dad. Joey Parker is a young man with big dreams. Almost eighteen, he’s desperate to escape the shackles of his window cleaning round, so when’s offered the chance to try out as a drummer in a local Blondie tribute band he jumps at the chance. But it isn’t just the music that moves him. It’s also the fact that Paula Foster is the lead singer. The daughter of his mum’s old mate, Josie, she was once a childhood friend. They’ve not seen each other in years, and their mutual attraction is immediate. Meanwhile, notorious local drug overlord, Rasta Mo, has recently returned to Bradford after a spell inside and years in Marbella. He is instantly enamored with the good-looking drummer he discovers is his son. He decides that his new club is in need of a house band – and so begins his attempts to woo him. This book charts a journey between two men into a future neither visualized. And, in Joey’s case, into a dangerous criminal world he’s never known. And, while his mother and step-father can only look on in horror as Joey potentially becomes the one thing she’s always dreaded – his father’s son. Joey is oblivious to who Mo is. The truth has always been hidden from him. All he cares about is that his and Paula’s dreams are all starting to come true. But will the cost of achieving them be too high to pay?
Hidden Sin is a great read, an easy read book, that will see you flying through those pages.
I have read a few of these books in the series, unfortunately I seem to have missed a few out, but if i'm honest, I don't think it's taken anything away from the reading enjoyment. I have enjoyed all the books i've read by this author so far, and Hidden Sin is no exception. In this book we start off in Bradford 1997. Young Joey is growing up and learning to stand on his own two feet. His mother and step father have always been there for Joey. When Joey starts playing with a band, he soon has a blossoming love relationship, and he and Paula seem to be going places. Joeys mother really isn't happy when she realises that Rasta Mo has returned from living abroad, and doing time. When Mo starts showing a keen interest in her son, she dreads having to tell Joey that MO is actually his father. This knocks Joey, he doesn't know how he feels, or what if anything he want's from becoming friends with his father. What is most worrying is the fact that it seems Joey is going to end up in a whole heap of trouble. His father is a criminal and he's going to drag Joey into his world if he isn't careful. A really enjoyable read. I wanted to read on and on as I needed to know the direction the story would take. It's well worth reading. I just felt towards the end I needed more. #1 Best Seller

4.5*
What a great read this was. I found right from the opening pages I was reading in anticipation of something happening. What a spooky little read this was, I really did think something was going to jump out of my kindle at some point. This is easily one of those books that once you start, you know you are rarely going to be putting it down until it's finished. I managed to read the first 60% of the book while I was being a good girl and resting. Unfortunately the school decides it has to close and i'm expected to go collect my child, or i'd probably have gotten it finished that afternoon. It really does become difficult to put down. I felt it was quite a different read for me, but different not in a bad way. I liked the characters in this book I thought they all went well together to help build the story. I especially liked Lucas, he seemed a determined character once he got something in his head, he had to act on it. The plot was brilliantly done, Lucas has gone to a writing retreat. A beautiful relaxing getaway at this retreat in Wales. It is to help him focus and concentrate on writing his latest book. Nyth Bran seems like the perfect place for this. Only the perfect place to relax is certainly not what it turns out to be. The Retreat is run by Julia, who is widowed after her husband dies 2 years ago, her daughter also went missing at the same time. Convince she is still alive Julia clutches at anything that will get her answers. Lucas becomes very distracted while at the Retreat, and is interested in the tale of how Julia's daughter went missing. There seem to be some odd goings on at the Retreat and it's not the quiet chilled out place he was expecting. Things are happening in this old house, and no one seems to have any answers as to why. What a fantastic edge of your seat, hold your breath read this was. I found at times I really was holding my breath, it gets creepy in parts and as I said earlier i really did think something might just jump out at me. It's not a super scary book, so please don't let me put you off reading it. It has a great story line with a slightly spooky element. Well worth reading.
DI Tom Thorne returns in a chilling mystery that will keep readers guessing until the final page. Time of Death is Mark Billingham's most timely, atmospheric thriller to date.

A huge fan of this author's work, this series is brilliant. I have to say sometimes with long running series you can start to get a little fed up around this mark. Yet here we are book 13 and I'm still loving the series. It's been a while since I read any of these, so i'm pleased I decided to play a bit of series books catch up. Mark Billingham has written yet another belter of a book with this one. The series is just going from strength to strength. When I started to read this, part way through I kept thinking it sounded really familiar and thought maybe I had read it previously. I carried on, then realised it was familiar as it had been on tv and we sat and watched it. Obviously the book is way better, but I did enjoy the Tv version too. It was funny as I seemed to have the images from the tv in my mind as I was reading this, and I think it helped make for great reading. When Tom and Helen are away for a romantic weekend, they see a news story regarding and abduction. It soon transpires that the case involves someone Helen was friends with at school, and she feels she needs to go and support her. Cutting their break away short they head off to Helen's home town. The story is gripping and intense in parts. Really enjoyable and i'm looking forward to getting to read the next one while I play catch up. Mark Billingham is certainly a damn good story teller. My Sister's Grave by Robert Dugoni #Book1 #Review @robertdugoni #QuickReview @ilovereadinguk9/5/2018 The first book in the series that has garnered millions of readers across the globe, from New York Times bestselling author Robert Dugoni. Tracy Crosswhite has spent twenty years questioning the facts surrounding her sister Sarah’s disappearance and the murder trial that followed. She doesn’t believe that Edmund House—a convicted rapist and the man condemned for Sarah’s murder—is the guilty party. As she searches for the real killer, she unearths dark, long-kept secrets that will forever change her relationship to her past—and open the door to deadly danger.
This is a book i've been meaning to read for a long time. I have most of the books in the series so far, so was keen not only to start this one, but also then get all the others read.
Book 1 - My Sisters Grave, is a enjoyable read. Tracy Crosswhite gave up her job as a Chemist to become a Homicide Detective with Seattle PD. She has spent 20 years carrying around a guilt surrounding her sisters disappearance. This is what prompted Tracy to want to become a Detective. Tracy has also never believed the man found guilty of her sisters murder was the correct person. When sarah's remains are finally found near their hometown, Tracy is determined to finally get her answers. I feel this book is just the start of what I believe is going to be a great series of books. An interesting read, will keep you guessing and wanting.

Can they finally put their terrible childhoods to rest and start over? My Thoughts. I'm currently catching up on some of my older books, that for one reason or another seem to have gotten lost on my kindle. I have to admit i read this book purely because of who the author was, I didn't know what to expect and I went in with my mind open to anything. I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. An amazing story of 3 sisters and their lives growing up. After the death of their mother, the estranged sisters have a chance to rebuild their relationships with each other. Sometimes things can't be forgotten and things that happened in childhood can rule your life as an adult. Forced to face the truths of their upbringing, this story is an emotional read. It covers the subject of family abuse brilliantly. It's superbly written. It left me feeling like i'd really been on and emotions journey with these women. I'm a huge fan of this author and this book show's just how good a writer she is. It's beautifully written. Please be warned you may need a box of tissues. Once started this is a very difficult book to put down. The Adulterer's Wife by Leigh Russell #Review by @ilovereadinguk @LeighRussell @Bloodhoundbook7/5/2018
Description
Julie is devastated to learn that her husband, Paul, is having an affair. It seems her life can’t get any worse - until she comes home to find his dead body in their bed. When the police establish he was murdered, Julie is the obvious suspect. To protect her son from the terrible situation, Julie sends the teenage boy to his grandparents in Edinburgh while she fights to prove her innocence. With all the evidence pointing to her, the only way she can escape conviction is by discovering the true identity of her husband’s killer. But who really did murder Paul? The truth is never straightforward
I have read quite a few Leigh Russell books and always enjoyed them, so I was looking forward to getting started with this one.
Finding out her husband Paul was having an affair took it all out of Julie, after looking through his mobile phone It seems that he's seeing someone called Bella. It seems he's seeing her when he's supposed to be going to his squash game. It seems it's not shuttlecocks that are being played with. When Paul is killed, it then becomes a case of who wanted him dead, and enough to actually kill him. It's a race against time for Julie to prove that she didn't kill her husband. This was an interesting read, one of those books where you find yourself really feeling for the characters. Julie was one of those characters that you wanted to help, yet at times you could happily slap her. I found a lot of what she did and the way she went about things a little stupid at times. It was almost like she was just trying to make things worse for herself. It seemed to far fetched. This one was very different from other books i've read by this author. I liked it, but it wasn't, to me as good as I know she can write. |
