Released – 24 Jan. 2019
Format – Paperback

Rating – OMG Hell Yeahhh
I received a free copy of this book from the publishers. I also purchased a copy for my Kindle.

A serial killer is burning people alive in the Lake District's prehistoric stone circles. He leaves no clues and the police are helpless. When his name is found carved into the charred remains of the third victim, disgraced detective Washington Poe is brought back from suspension and into an investigation he wants no part of . . .
Reluctantly partnered with the brilliant, but socially awkward, civilian analyst, Tilly Bradshaw, the mismatched pair uncover a trail that only he is meant to see. The elusive killer has a plan and for some reason Poe is part of it.
As the body count rises, Poe discovers he has far more invested in the case than he could have possibly imagined. And in a shocking finale that will shatter everything he's ever believed about himself, Poe will learn that there are things far worse than being burned alive ...
I was thrilled when I received a paperback of this book to read. I'd seen some of the hype around this book on social media, and was eager to get started. I seem to take longer when reading a paperback as I don't tend to take them out with me all the time, so I purchased the kindle copy so I could read the paperback in the comfort of my home and carry on reading while I was out and about at various appointments. It really is a bloody gripping read. To start with I wasn't sure what to expect but once I started, it turned in to a read me now type of book, meaning I had to read at every opportunity.

Set in beautiful Cumbria, bodies are being set on fire in prehistoric stone circles. When one is found to have the name of disgraced Detective Washington Poe (what a fab name that is) carved in to his body, Washington Poe is called back for duty with his suspension lifted. Having been suspended for allowing documents to get in to the wrong hands, Poe returns to work. Working with The Serious Crime Unit it's down to Poe and the team to try and piece together what the hell is going on, and why.
The killer has been named as The ‘Immolation Man’
Poe is teamed up with Tilly Bradshaw a data analyst, who literally says what she is thinking, she has no brain to mouth filter and some of what she comes out with is first class. I love the way this character has been developed through this book and I have to say this series is going to be one I'm following for Tilly alone. I adored her. A first class character. The relationship that grows between Poe and Tilly is fascinating. It's refreshing to see a character like Tilly in books. And I think the author has done an amazing job portraying her character. I'll not go into anymore detail, i'll you read the book to understand what I mean.
Getting to know Poe through the story was brilliant, learning his back story and what makes him tick, this has all been set up nicely for future books.
Poe and Tilly are lead by DI Stephanie Flynn who has temporarily replaced Poe after his suspension. Poe is now working under her. Flynn is another great character, How will things work out between her and Poe now the roles are reversed.
This book, the story was highly entertaining, gripping, captivating, gruesome  and one I didn't want to end, if I could have had 100 more pages, I still don't think it would have been enough to feed my want for more. One of the best police procedurals I have read. Why have I not read anything by this author before? OMG he can write. #NewFanHere
This book is the first one this year to get put in to my 2019 Must Reads.

Thrilled to be closing the tour for this awesome book.

Dying is easy. It’s living that’s hard…

‘Gritty and gripping’ Kimberley Chambers

An eye for an eye.

Cabhan Morton wants to leave the Russo crime family for good and live in peace with his daughter, Alice Rose. But the Russos won’t let him walk away without a fight.

A tooth for a tooth.
Franny Doyle would do anything for Cabhan and Alice, but helping them escape the vindictive Russo brothers won’t be easy. The only place they’ll be safe is back in Essex with Alfie Jennings.

A daughter for a daughter…
Franny knows she won’t be welcomed by Alfie with open arms – but she doesn’t have a choice. The Russos are out for blood and they won’t stop until Alice is dead…

The heart-racing new thriller perfect for fans of Kimberley Chambers and Martina Cole.

I was thrilled when I received an email from the wonderful Sabah Khan asking if I was interested in being part of this blog tour - Hell Yeah... so thank you so much for allowing me to be part of this alongside some truly amazing bloggers.
No secret that I'm a huge JR fan. The book world has been waiting on a return of this awesome author, and she flew back into my bookish life in the summer of last year and here she is again with another exceptional read.
JR is one of those authors for me, that as soon as I see her name on a book, I have to read. Doesn't matter what it's about, I didn't even read the blub, I saw the cover and knew I wanted to read it. Back with some familiar characters, it wasn't long before I was flying through those pages.
Cabhan is working for the Russo brothers, a crime family headed by 3 brothers, Nico, Salvadore, and Bobby. It's only now Cabhan wants to leave and move on with his life to bring up his daughter away from the troubles that surround the work he is involved with when things start to turn ugly.
Being involved in an accident, involving one of the Russo family members see's Cabhan take flight. Along to help him is Franny Doyle. Life becomes so much more complicated and things begin to spiral out of control.
To what extent you would have to be discovered by reading this book.
This is not a book you will pick up and put down after just a few pages at a time, this is a high octane, nail biting, heart beating fast kind of read that you will devour is as little amount of time as possible.
Once started any JR fan will not be able to put this book down. It's great to be back with some familiar characters, characters you've grown to like over years really add to the story.
JR is certainly an author who does not disappoint, I for one am so glad she is back writing books we love and can't wait for more and more from this author.
First class and right up there with some of the best from this genre.

Amazingly we don't have to long to wait for the next book by Jacqui Rose.

Sinner is available for pre order now.

Title: A Promise to the Dead (Detectives King and Lane Book 4)
Author: Victoria Jenkins
Publication Day: January 21st

Picture

The blur of shapes began to sharpen, forming a clear picture that stood out against the darkened background. For a moment he couldn’t move, his fear rendering him immobile. He needed help. He turned to run.

On a dark night, on a mountain road, a young couple, Matthew and Stacey, are on their way home from a night out. Their car breaks down and Matthew leaves to look for help. By the next morning, Stacey is found murdered in the car and Matthew is missing, presumed guilty of her murder.

Called to the scene, Detective Alex King and her team soon see some terrifying links – to another local young man who is missing, and to the discovery of a body from 30 years ago.

Alex knows that the missing and the dead have a story to tell her. But will she hear it in time to uncover the killer before they strike again?

A Promise to the Dead is a totally unputdownable crime thriller that will have you hooked. Readers of Angela Marsons, Karin Slaughter and Robert Dugoni will love this.

Another book I've read without even reading the blurb. After reading previous books by this author there was no need to find out what the book was going to be about, and sometimes knowing you can rely on an author's writing makes the book much more interesting when starting it.
Victoria Jenkins has become another of those authors for me. I have enjoyed all her previous books that i've read and this one is another good read.
This is book 4 in the Detectives King and Lane series. My personal view is that these books really are best if read in order. That's only my view as many say they are fine reading as standalones, but not for me.
Back to the book, Once I got started with this book, I knew I was going to enjoy it, and I certainly did. It didn't take me long to get through it, a couple of cozy evening on the couch and I flew through it.
There certainly is plenty going on for you in this book. We open with a young woman being shot dead in her boyfriends car, yet her boyfriend is missing. Where has he gone, and what has he done?. When another man goes missing Chloe and Alex start to wonder if there is a link, this is where the story really gets you as you really need to know the who and why.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, it's very well written and put together. The plot is brilliant and characters i've gotten to know have really come into their own. The ending of this book has really left me wondering what the author is going to do next, but whatever it is, i'm really looking forward to it.

D/C Mike O’Shea, a young cop with a knack for working hard and following hunches, is on the verge of cracking a prostitution ring when an undercover from another unit burns him. With only days left before their pimps shuttle the girls out of the country, Mike pushes his team into overdrive. Hours later, with too little information, sleep, or luck, the unthinkable happens.

And now, the chase is personal.

In the first of the Mike O’Shea Crime Fiction Series, 10-33 Assist PC draws us into the dirty world of human trafficking through the eyes of the cops who put their lives on the line every day to shut it down. Written by a Real Detective, 10-33 Assist PC is the story of a cop who must decide how to move forward without forgetting the past.

Real Detective. Real Crime. Fiction.

Desmond P. Ryan - Author Bio
Very few books give you the real crime experience because even fewer authors have it.
Desmond P. Ryan has it.
For almost thirty years, he worked the back alleys, poorly-lit laneways, and forgotten neighbourhoods in the city where he grew up. Murder often most unkind, assaults on a level that defied humanity, and sexual violations intended to demean, shame, and haunt the victims were all in a day’s work. Days, evenings, midnights--all the same. Crime knows no time.
Exhilarating. Exhausting. Often heartbreaking.
Whether as a beat cop or a plainclothes detective, Desmond Ryan dealt with good people who did bad things and bad people who followed their instincts. He wrote thousands of reports describing their lives, the places they lived, and the things they did. He investigated their crimes and wrote detailed accounts of the activities that brought him into their world. Detective Ryan also held victims as they wept, talked desperate people off of ledges, and sat beside the decomposing bodies of men and women who, in life, had been discarded and long-forgotten by society.
Now, as a retired detective with three decades of research opportunities under his belt, Desmond Ryan write crime fiction.
Why?
Because he wants to tell you a story like no other. Because he wants to bring you inside a world that will both fascinate you and challenge what you thought you knew about human nature. Because he wants to seamlessly weave truth and fiction together to create a place for you where the Good Guys ultimately win.
And because you deserve to have the most authentic crime fiction experience every time you pick up one of Desmond Ryan’s books.
Real Detective. Real Crime. Fiction.

And now the chance to read an extract from the book.

10-33 Assist PC
Chapter One
Saturday, October 29th, 2005 - 2:30 p.m.
Detective Constable Mike O’Shea casually drove the unmarked scout car around the corner. He felt good. Maybe it was the bright October sunlight reflecting off the crushed beer cans scattered on the overgrown lawns. Maybe it was the police-issued snubby holstered in the small of his back. Or maybe it was the anticipation of a successful end to a long project. Whatever the reason, it made him smile.
“Mike! Left!” Sal grabbed the dashboard with one hand while instinctively reaching for his gun with the other.
The clang of metal rang in their ears as a streak of green flashed in front of them.
Someone bounced off the hood of the car.
Mike slammed the brakes, one hand on the wheel and the other reaching for the snubby. Despite their ratty sweatshirts, stained jeans, and unshaved faces, neither cop looked quite as rough as the
scrappy man who popped up from the pavement next to Mike’s door. They watched, hands on their still-holstered guns, as the scruffy man yanked a battered bike from under the front tire of the car. Without a word, he wobbled away, apparently none the worse for wear.
“Hey!” Mike hollered after the cyclist, who responded with a suggestive finger in the air.
“Bike’s stolen and he’s drunk. Or stoned. Let him go,” Sal said, spitting sunflower seed shells
on the floor of the car before settling back into his seat.
“Unbelievable,” Mike mumbled, shaking his head.
“No shit,” Sal agreed, stuffing another handful of sunflower seeds into his mouth.
“I’m talking about you, asshole. You’re not spitting those shells in the car, are you?”
“Yeah.”
“Use the fucking window.”
Sal spat a shell at Mike’s feet.

Kerry Wilkinson - Silent Suspect (Jessica Daniel series Book 13) @Kerrywk @Bookouture

Picture
It started with a phone call. Just one word - ‘Jessica’ - and now Detective Inspector Jessica Daniel has a big problem.

Her missing friend, Bex, called from a battered seaside payphone and yet, by the time Jessica arrived, there was nobody there.

One man claims he can help – but then he turns up on a beach stabbed to death.

Jessica believes someone must be framing her. Someone who is always a step ahead. When she finds a boy whose tattoo matches Bex's, she becomes more desperate than ever for answers. But, with the police growing more suspicious, Jessica doesn’t have long to find Bex before she becomes the prime suspect for a murder.

With more than her career at stake, can Jessica clear her name - and find her friend - before it’s too late for them both?

Jessica Daniel book 13 - I feel like I've waited forever to read this book.  So much so, that the day I received this book I started it, I stopped the other book I'd started and made an immediate start on this.  It didn't take me long to jump right back into the world of Jessica Daniel.
For anyone who doesn't know I am a huge Jessica Daniel fan and this series has been one of my all time favourites.  There is just something so familiar about Jessica then gives an instant liking towards her, and having grown with her over 13 books, she's almost like an old friend.
Jessica this time around is not in windy, rain soaked Manchester, she's in even windier, more rain soaked Blackpool.
After receiving a phone call from her missing friend Bex (Rebecca) she Jumps in her car and heads along the motorway.
Finding a bit of a grotty B&B to stay in, because this is the place that is right facing the telephone kiosk that Bex called her from.
The call she received was just one word 'Jessica' and Jessica knew right away it Bex. Trying to understand why she phoned and only spoke one word is something Jessica need's to figure out. She believes that maybe Bex is in some sort of trouble and would know that Jessica would follow up on her call.
Jessica is puzzled when she see's the phone booth, and see's a poster of a missing girl who looks just like Bex. It certainly can't be a coincidence, which gears Jessica up even more.
Jessica calls the number on the poster, and things take a very dramatic turn for her, has she been set up, if so why and who by.
This is a great story of the Hunter becoming the hunted, the story itself left me wanting to read on, at the end of each chapter it becomes, just one more chapter. It was good to see Jessica flying solo and not having her team out with her, it was also good that Andrew Hunter, a character from another series of Kerry Wilkinson's  books made an appearance.  I can't believe how different this book felt from others, but no less engaging, no less interesting, and certainly no less thrilling. It seam's odd saying it was a roller coaster of a ride, when it's set in Blackpool, the town with one of the biggest roller coasters in the country.
One of the best. I can't wait to read more about Jessica and it will be interesting now to see what direction her life takes, what ever it is, I'll be rooting for her the whole way.  Mr Wilkinson, can you please write some more, and very quickly.

Is a killer still on the loose?
The thirtieth gritty mystery in Quintin Jardine's bestselling Bob Skinner series, not to be missed by readers of Ian Rankin and Peter May. Praise for Jardine's gripping mysteries: 'Well constructed, fast-paced, Jardine's narrative has many an ingenious twist and turn' Observer
When a murder investigation that's been closed for thirty years is suddenly re-opened, former Chief Constable Bob Skinner is quickly drawn into the action.
The story of the Body in the Quarry was well-known around Edinburgh all those years ago: a popular priest found dead in a frozen quarry; a suspect with a clear motive charged; a guilty verdict. But with a journalist uncovering new evidence, the cold case has come back to haunt Skinner's old mentor Jimmy Proud - and only one man can help him.
Skinner is long out of the police force, but he can't say no. With the clock ticking, and his friend's reputation at stake, he must uncover the truth to find out if an innocent man was convicted for murder. And if a killer is still on the loose . . .
Wow... Book 30 in the Bob Skinner series. A series I have said many times before that I truly love reading. There have been a whole heap of colourful characters in this series, some amazing characters whose lives I have followed through the pages.
Bob Skinner no longer the Chief Constable of Edinburgh, now just plain old Bob, if there could ever be a plain old Bob Skinner that is.
Bob has a way of attracting trouble, of getting involved in things to help out his friends. Bob is the go to guy when friends find they need help. Although he no longer works for the police, he does work on private commissions, he is also now carrying around as he puts it ' a piece of plastic that gives him Security Service credentials, he could be asked for help at any time.
This time around it's Sir Jimmy, or 'proud Jimmy. Bob's ex boss as it was. The ex Chief Constable, who is in need of Bob's services. Sir Jimmy wants closure on an old case and knows Bob is the man to help. I'm not going into to much regarding this story as it would inevitably give too much away.
There are a whole heap of the wonderful characters we have gotten to know through the previous 29 books, I can't believe this is book 30. It's one of my all time favorite series of books, I have no hesitation what so ever recommending these books. I will say though for the best of them, they need reading in order. I know at some point this is a series I will go back and re read.
One thing I will say is, I wish I hadn't been in a public place when finishing this book. Tissues were needed for me.

I'm so ready for the next book and I really can't wait.

Dangerous by Jessie Keane is a deadly story of London's criminal underworld, from the bestselling author of Nameless.
Whatever the cost, she would pay it . . .

Fifteen-year-old Clara Dolan's world is blown apart following the death of her mother. Battling to keep what remains of her family together, Clara vows to protect her younger siblings, Bernadette and Henry, from danger, whatever the cost.
With the arrival of the swinging Sixties, Clara finds herself swept up in London's dark underworld where the glamour of Soho's dazzling nightclubs sits in stark contrast to the terrifying gangland violence that threatens the new life she has worked so hard to build.
Sinking further into an existence defined by murder and betrayal, Clara soon realizes that success often comes at a very high price . . .
Oh my dayzzz where has my head been. I have just done a 2 book Jessie Kean binge and thinking I was up to date, double checked goodreads, to find I hadn't read this one, so off I popped to Amazon to find out I purchased this book on 28 February 2015.
Why on earth do I do it? So thinking my hat trick of Jessie Keane books could be completed by reading the new book The Edge:  (Ruby Darke Book 3) I was wrong, I finished it by reading this one. So lucky me I still have another one to read, which should then take my little binge up to 4 Jessie Keane books in a row. The down side of reading such amazing books back to back is finding something to match the high standard of writing I'm getting used to.
This book was a standalone.
15 year old Clara Dolan is about to have her world blown apart when her mother dies, Clara has to take charge and take on the responsibility of her younger brother and sister.
Clara has to flee from her home before the authorities realise she is underage and to young to be looking after her siblings. In a very short space of time Clara has to grow up and grow up quickly. Thinking she is doing the right thing by her siblings Clara Has to find someone who can help and support them. This is exactly what she does. This is not without problems and as time goes by Clara is on a mission to get what she wants, Money to fund her and her siblings lives.
Packed with some brilliant and some not so brilliant characters this book takes Clara on a huge learning curve, some amazing twists and a fantastic story line this will have readers gripped from the start.
Well worth reading and I would highly recommend it.
