Erin was a good girl. But someone wanted her dead…‘I love all Mel Sherratt’s books’ IAN RANKIN
‘An absolute masterpiece’ ANGELA MARSONS ‘Twists and turns and delivers a satisfying shot of tension’ RACHEL ABBOTT When sixteen-year-old Erin Ellis is attacked, she dies in the arms of her best friend Molly, just metres from her home. Molly is the surviving girl but says she easily could have been the victim – it was a random mugging gone wrong. With inconclusive evidence, DS Grace Allendale must dig deep within the tight-knit Stoke community for leads. And she soon finds that someone had a motive to kill Erin. As the investigation unfolds, Grace is reminded of a horrifying case she worked on earlier in her career. Is the past coming back to haunt her? And can she push through her fear to catch Erin’s killer before it’s too late?
Oh my, what a read this was. Absolutely loved it. Another gritty page turner part of an equally gritty series. If you have not read this authors work then now would be as good a time as any to start it.
It's tough but I think this is my favourite one of the series so far and this is book 4. Best friends, teenagers Erin and Molly are on their way home, so close to home when Erin is mugged. A fatal stab wound leaves Erin to die in the arms of her best friend. Life is never going to be the same for Molly. We have Erin's family in turmoil yet as the girls mothers are also best friends it hit's Molly's family just as hard. DS Grace Allendale is called in to investigate. As Molly was with Erin when it happened Grace needs to get as much info as she possibly can from Molly but clearly the friend is traumatised and grieving. Grace and her team have to dig deep to get clues, and as the story unfolds we learn just what the girls had been doing before the fatal incident. Could this be linked to why Erin died or is this totally seperate?. I could not put this book down, I wanted and needed to know what had happened and believe the author did a fantastic job with the twists and finally letting us know who and why. An ending I really don't think I was expecting. Families in this book who I wanted to console, I felt very much a part of it all. Brilliant characters and brilliant story line. I soooooo can't wait for the next one. Well done Mel, you never fail. This book has been added to my 2020 Must Reads list.

‘An absolute masterpiece’ ANGELA MARSONSThe gripping new novel from million-copy bestseller, Mel Sherratt.
‘I love all Mel Sherratt’s books’ IAN RANKIN ‘Twists and turns and delivers a satisfying shot of tension’ RACHEL ABBOTT The truth can be a dangerous thing… When a young boy falls from a balcony in a block of flats, DS Grace Allendale witnesses the shocking aftermath of the tragic event. But strangely, no one will admit to seeing anything – and the parents will only tell the police that it was an accident. Determined to sort the truth from the lies, Grace is thrown into a case that takes her to the darkest corners of the criminal world – and strikes closer to home than she could have ever imagined… A gripping and pacey thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from the moment you turn the first page. The perfect read for fans of Martina Cole.
When a young child is thrown from a balcony of the flats, DS Grace Allendale is sent to investigate. Life on most estates mean that the Police are not someone you talk to. No one will say if they saw anything and are saying it's an accident. It seems everyone feels this was no accident but they still wont talk.
Grace knows that people are telling lies, including the boys parents but she needs to figure out why and what actually happened. How can you keep quiet if someone has harmed your child. As always this was a thrilling read from a very talented author. I've found each book in this series somehow gets better each time. This is one of those books you really don't want to end. Yet you can't stop reading which means the end comes around all to soon. Although I think if these books were thousands of pages I'd still think they were to short. I've never yet felt let down by one of Mel's books and this one is as good as all her others. A great addition to a brilliant series. I loved everything about this book and highly recommend.
She got into bed but sleep didn’t come easily. Every creak in the house made her alert. She was waiting for him to come and get her.
The small city of Stockleigh is in shock as three women are brutally attacked within days of each other. Are they random acts of violence or is there a link between the victims? For Detective Eden Berrisford, it’s her most chilling case yet. The investigation leads Eden to cross paths with Carla, a woman trying to rebuild her life after her marriage to a cruel and abusive man ended in unimaginable tragedy. Her husband Ryan was imprisoned for his crimes but, now he’s out and coming for her. As Eden starts to close in on the attacker, she also puts herself in grave danger. Can she stop him before he strikes again? And can Carla, terrified for her life, save herself - before the past wreaks a terrible revenge? We are back again with Detective Eden Berrisford in this book 2. One thing I will say about this author is she certainly knows how to write a bloody good book, and that is exactly what this is. Drawn into the pages right from the beginning this book leaves you wanting more. A brilliantly put together story highlighting some of the issues of Domestic violence. showing the controlling powers that some thrive on, while injecting fear into their partners. It’s a horrible subject, but one that was covered brilliantly. I felt for these women the whole way through this book. I wanted to get them somewhere safe and look after them. Eden is trying to work the case, trying to find out who is attacking vulnerable women. Eden and her team go all out to find out the who and why. The flow of the book is spot on. As I said this is the second book featuring Ds Eden Berrisford, yet It could be read as a stand alone, but for me I feel it’s better if you have read the previous book. I find it always helps if you can know some of the characters back history and I feel reading the first book really helps with that. All I can say because I really don’t want to give to much of the story line away is,,, just treat yourself buy this book get your feet up with a cuppa and get stuck in. And if you haven’t read book one, then what a treat you are in for because then you can read book one and two back to back. Then sit and eagerly await book three like I am doing. Well done Mel. Another fantastic read that deserves all 5 of the stars I’m giving it. #HelpMe
