![]() The victim is lying under the trees, arms lifted above his head, unnaturally still. His muscles are slack. His eyes are empty. There are no signs of life. But he is not quite dead… When Detective Kim Stone races to the crime scene, there is no body waiting for her: the paramedics are desperately trying to save the victim’s life. But there is something very strange about the way the man was found, his arms raised above his head, his legs spread apart. When he dies on the way to the hospital, Kim is certain she’s on the hunt for a killer… but all evidence at the scene has been destroyed. The dead man, Eric Gould, seems ordinary, until the team dig into his past. As a teenager, he was locked away for attacking his girlfriend, and Kim suspects he was hurting his fiancé now. Was someone trying to stop history repeating? Then another man is found on the verge of death, his bones broken to force him into an unnatural shape. The team realise the killer is sending a message – the victims’ bodies are spelling out their sins. As boys, they were both part of a group of six who bragged about their terrible crimes. But they were children then, and when she sees the grief on the faces of their loved ones now, Kim swears to find answers. Is someone finally getting revenge… or do they think these men are still dangerous? The killer is threatening to strike again, and the only way Kim can crack the case is by tracking down the rest of the six first. But then a revelation about what one of her team is suffering makes Kim understand why people take the law into their own hands. Do these victims deserve what’s coming to them? Or is there even more to fear from their brutal killer? Unputdownable from start to finish, Bad Blood is a brilliantly gripping crime thriller with a reveal you’ll never see coming. Fans of Karin Slaughter, Robert Dugoni and Val McDermid will love the latest compulsive read from multi-million-copy bestseller Angela Marsons. My Thoughts on this book..Just how the blooming heck have we got to book 19. Book 19 in a series I have absolutely loved following. Back with the team, Kim, Bryant, Penn and Stacey. Things are a struggle for the team at the moment. One of the gang is having problems and hasn't found the courage to tell the others as yet. This makes for an uncomfortable time for the team. We kick off with a bit of strange case as the murder victim is actually still alive, he is however in a rather strange pose when found. Absolutely no evidence at the scene where he was found as it's been destroyed while paramedics were attending to him. What can have happened to this ordinary man, is there more going on than meets the eye. What happens when another man is found in a similar way. The team kick in to action. The story ramps up another notch and we are in full Kim Stone mode. Nothing matters but solving the case. That is until Kim realises she is needed more than ever. Needed for something a littles closer to home. Murders she can solve, but can she solve what seems to be a barrier in her team. Has she got what it takes to be the boss that is needed but also a friend. This book I feel really has brought out another side to the team, What lengths would you go to, to protect one of your own. Just like every other book this author has written, this is gripping, adrenaline filled excitement. As always a stonking good read. With each and everyone of these books I always tell myself to take my time, read a little each evening and savour the book. I start reading.. Chapter one... OMG before i know it I'm almost at the end, then I tell myself off for racing through. Yet I do it each and every time, you'd think I'd learn by now. These are not books to be read over a period of time. These are books that need devouring, in one sitting if possible, because our queen of the Crime Thrillers has done it again. Boy I'm glad Angie has a twisted, warped mind that allows her to write such gripping, exciting and thrilling stories. The Flood (A Fiona MacLeish Crime Thriller Book 1) By G.N. Smith @bookouture @GrahamSmith197210/10/2023 A superb, quick and easy read. Once started it's hard to stop reading.![]()
There was a shape in the raging water. Fiona waded forward until she was knee-deep, holding her breath, steadying herself. Hoping. But the closer she got, the more Fiona was sure. She was looking at another victim. The murderer was here, with them.
Police officer Fiona MacLeish has been ordered to step back from her role in Police Scotland. Haunted by the murder of her parents, she’s dangerously close to breaking point: and is back in her remote childhood home nestled in a valley on the Scottish border. But there’s a terrifying storm coming… When Fiona finds the bloodied body of a neighbour in their flooded house, a chill runs through her veins. The bruising around his throat tells Fiona someone wanted this elderly man dead. And with the torrential rain cutting the farming village off completely, the murderer must still be nearby. But flood waters continue to rise, and landslides force Fiona to take shelter with a crowd of locals at the highest-standing farm. Then, another victim is found, with more suspicious wounds. Trapped at the farm with a killer, with no hope of outside help, can Fiona catch them before more of the isolated community become victims?
Book 1 in what is looking like a new superb series.
The Flood By G N Smith is a great start to a series. The flood waters are rising. And so is the body count… Police officer Fiona MacLeish has been ordered to step back from her role in Police Scotland. Haunted by the murder of her parents, she’s dangerously close to breaking point: and is back in her remote childhood home nestled in a valley on the Scottish border. But there’s a terrifying storm coming… Fiona has gone staying with her aunt, the woman who has always been there for her, the woman who brought her up after losing her parents. Fiona and Aunt Mary soon become trapped when their attempt to leave the valley is stopped with a mud slide blocking the road. The only thing they can do is return to one of the farm houses that the other locals have gone to. The problem now is Fiona knows one of the neighbors in the farm house is a killer. What she doesn't know is who the killer is. It could be anyone of them. Fiona will need her police nose and skills to sniff out which one of her aunts friends or neighbors is a brutal murderer. A gripping, intense and exciting read. Especially when you are reading it while 'Storm Agnes is forecast for your area. I could feel the tension, the fear but also the determination to come out the other side of the storm that has hit the valley. Superb read, loved every bit of it and I can't wait to read the next books in the series. 2 The Island 3 The Shelter Baton down the hatches a storm is about to hit..
The woman’s bright blonde hair floats in the breeze. She almost looks like she could be resting on the soft green grass. But her brown eyes stare unblinking up at the sky, and the final cut across her mouth is dark with blood. Her words silenced forever…
Late one evening, as the final church bell rings out, Sandra Deakin’s cold and lifeless body is found in the overgrown graveyard with multiple stab wounds. When Detective Kim Stone rushes to the scene, the violence of the attack convinces her that this murder was deeply personal. What could have caused such hate? As the team dig into Sandra’s life, they discover she believed she could communicate with the dead. Was that why she was targeted? The last people to see her alive were a group of women who had a session with her the night before she was killed, and as Kim and her team pay them a visit, they soon learn each of the women is lying about why they wanted Sandra’s help… Kim realises she must dig deep and open her mind to every avenue if she’s going to stand a chance at solving this case. And when she learns that Sandra was banned from the church grounds and had been receiving death threats too, she’s ever more certain that Sandra’s gifts are at the heart of everything. But just when she thinks she’s found a lead, the broken body of a nineteen-year-old boy is found outside a call centre – a single slash across his mouth just like Sandra’s. Kim knows they are now racing against time to understand what triggered these attacks, and to stop a twisted killer. But they might be too late. Just as Kim sits down at a local psychic show she discovers something that makes her blood run cold. Both Sandra and the call centre were named in an article about frauds. And this show stars the next name on the list. She looks around the audience with a feeling of utter dread, certain the killer is among them…

And what did I think
Unfreakingbelievable as always. Angie certainly knows what her readers want and she delivers each and every time. Another unbelievable read. Book 18, most series of books have got a little stale, a little samey by the time you get into double digits. This is book 18 and the stories and characters are nowhere near having had their day. There is still life, zest and umphh in each and every character and new story. Delivered each and every time with more grit, more power behind the stories. I really can not praise this series enough. So much so, that after completing book 18, I have decided to treat myself and go right back to book 1 and start reading them again. So far it's just as good the 2nd time around. I seem to say this with each and every book, so I wont disappoint and not say it - I don't know how the hell Angie does it, but i'm so glad she does. OUTSTANDING! What do I like about these books? Well, firstly the characters, we've certainly grown and aged with each other. I love the strength, determination and the wit of these characters. I certainly do feel as though I know them, as though opening each new book is like a telephone catch up with a friend you haven't seen for a while. I wan't to know what they are doing, what they have been up to at what point they are currently at in life. I feel i'm really invested in these characters. Secondly the story lines, the crimes. Each time it feels fresh, It's exciting, i'm left wanting and needing to know what is going to happen. I then get to the end of the book and I want it to carry on, and on, and on... I think I could read these books forever and a day. Kim Stone and her team are tasked with searching for a killer, when a woman's body is found in a graveyard. Quite a brutal killing that makes it look personal rather than a random killing. Now follows the who and the why and it's down to the team to piece together what could have happened. I loved the psychic element that was weaved into this story line, it added something different. Something that really does get you thinking while reading. I don't think you particularly have to know about or like the psychic elements in this book but it certainly adds to the story. Bravo, now ready for the next one. Angie really does like to add pressure to herself because we all know that the next book will be just as, if not more, epic. Publication date: 4th April 2023![]() DI Kate Young’s team is hunting for a killer. What they don’t know…is that the killer is her. DI Kate Young has known for years that her boss, Superintendent John Dickson, is a violent and evil man. But when she finally confronts him and accidentally shoots and kills him, she’s forced to cover her tracks before anyone can pin his death on her. With revelations about his corruption soon to become public knowledge, Kate sets up a trail of evidence to make it seem that Dickson has conveniently vanished… But Kate knows the corruption doesn’t end with Dickson. As she heads up the team investigating his supposed disappearance, she also pursues other loose ends. Stanka, the sex worker who supplied the evidence against Dickson, leads her to crucial information on another corrupt officer, DI Harriet Khatri, and her dubious involvement with sex traffickers. As the noose starts to tighten on Kate, she finds herself targeted by traffickers, the bent cops on her force and even her own team of detectives. Can she stay one step ahead of them all and bring Harriet to justice? Can she trust anyone around her? And can she possibly get away with murder?
This is a real edge of your seat read. At times I found myself holding my breath. I was second guessing every step of the way. I liked how the author has continued with the story of the voices in Kate's head. This really does help with the story plot. We get a good understanding of each side.
The twists, the turns, the suspense - all just done perfectly. I can not fault this book at all. The Author has exceeded all expectations and smashed it out the water with this one. I really can't emphasize how good it is. I really don't want to wait for the next installment, I need to know where this series is going. A Score To Settle
Well, Well, Well.
Caz Finlay has smashed it again. Another epic read. Book 8 in the Bad Blood Series. As always this book has everything the reader wants from a gritty gangland thriller. Everything and a little more. This time around a feud boiling isn't business, it's personal. Find out what happens when the grandchild of one of Liverpool's gangland bosses is kidnapped. Everyone is on their toes, everyone doing their bit to try and help find her. Grace Carter and her Husband Michael are on the first flight home to Liverpool as soon as they hear the news. Everyone is out of their minds with worry and stress and when you family is the Carter family worry and stress do not mix well. The storyline is this book was first class, amazing real life characters that you just can't help but to like. The characters have been built up superbly over the series and really do get under your skin. Its had to believe at book 8 that everything still feels fresh and new, each time a book is released I thing Caz Finlay is going to struggle to top the last one. I'm pleased to say i have never been disappointed and each one just gets batter and better. Any fans of a gangland crime books will absolutely love this one and if you haven't read the previous book I would say you get a better feel for the characters by reading them in order, but it could be read as a standalone if you wanted. Why not download the whole series now!

This is the first book in THE ISLES OF SCILLY MYSTERIES It won't be the only one i read. A thoroughly enjoyable read. Returning to the Isle of Scilly where her grew up, DI Ben Kitto is taking a recommended three month break from work after past events. It was suggested after he tried to hand in his notice to The London Murder squad. Being back 'home is going to be so very different for Ben. This take a turn once back on the Island when the body of sixteen year old Laura Trescothick is found on the beach at Hell Bay. As always with a new book series we are getting to the know the characters. Learning their history as we get invested into the story. This book has some interesting characters. I think i'm going to like Ben Kitto and and look forward to getting to know more about him as i read more of this series. I believe there are currently 5 books in this series so I certainly have a little bit of catching up to do. If the rest of the series is anything like this one then i'm going to enjoy it. View all my reviews ![]() My rating: 4 of 5 stars What the hell have i just read/listened to. This book has more twists than a big twisty thing. What a great, suspenseful read this was. The Narrator has just the right balance of changes in voice, adding to the suspense the whole way through. The Narrator has done an amazing job on this book. The author has pulled off a cracker of a book. New author to me, Dee Poirier is certainly an author I will look out for in the future. I was gripped from early on in this book, It starts off strong and continues the whole way through. Adele is a marriage councilor, but one that hasn't realized she has issues with her own marriage. Is it too late when she discovers what problems she has. When her husband vanishes Adele is helped by her ex boyfriend who just happens to be the local cop. Adele, we believe your husband is missing.” As everything around me starts to blur, I go over the words once more: “your husband is missing.” Four simple words with the power to shatter my whole world in an instant.
Working as a marriage counselor I’m used to the tragedies that come out of nowhere. People trust me to help them through life’s big moments. The things that leave you questioning everything you thought you knew about the person you love the most. But I never thought trouble would land on my own doorstep. As I start to piece together our last conversation desperate for any clues I can find, the cop standing in front of me reveals that my husband never told his co-workers he was married. He was seemingly living a double life right in front of me. Days later, as I search through our home, I discover a hidden box of baby clothes that suggest my husband was starting to build the perfect life without me. My entire career has been built on separating the truth from the lies. My husband may think he has pulled off the greatest lie of all but he is not the only one keeping a secret in this marriage. All I know for certain is that when the truth comes out, only one of us will make it out alive. A totally addictive and unputdownable psychological thriller about deadly obsession and twisted lies perfect for fans of Gone Girl, The Perfect Marriage, The Wife Before Me and anything by Freida McFadden. Dea keeps you gripped… Has you on the edge of your seat!!” Goodreads reviewer ![]() My rating: 4 of 5 stars I got this book initially via my Kindle Unlimited subscription. When I realised the audio was available I thought I'd give it a go. I love when i can switch between reading and listening. Reading when I have the chance to sit down, and then being able to carry on with the audio when I'm busy or out walking is fab. I really enjoyed this. An interesting read/listen. The Surgeon is a good medical thriller. Easy read/listen interesting and intriguing. I liked the main character, Anna Whiley loses her first patient on the operating table. What then follows is Anna being investigated for a death that shouldn't have happened. But was it anything to do with Anna. Is there anything that could have been done differently. Beating herself up Anna looks into what could or couldn't have gone wrong. This book had plenty of twists and turns that keep you engaged within the story. Leave you wondering if you are guessing correctly at what could have happened. One of those books that you want to keep reading. I would recommend this book. Trusted surgeon. Loving wife. Murderer? Before my world came crashing down, I had it all. The successful career I dreamed of. The beautiful red-brick home where I could relax in front of the fire. The handsome, devoted husband whose blue eyes and charming smile always made me feel safe. As I call time of death, my voice is steady. My colleagues stand hushed around me, their eyes on me, confused, concerned. I have never lost a patient until today. My hands tremble inside their gloves. I slide down the cold tiled walls, my heart racing in my chest. I have never hated a patient until today. But what choice did I have, once I recognized him? And what will I do to protect myself, if someone learns the truth? A totally gripping psychological thriller that will have you racing through the pages, gasping for breath until the final jaw-dropping twist. If you love Freida McFadden, Shari Lapena and The Girl on the Train, you won’t be able to put this down. View all my reviews
Take Over by Edie Baylis.
Book 1 in the Allegiance Series. I love starting a new series and especially when its a gangland crime series. We are introduced to some interesting characters through this book. A decent realistic storyline. Sam has always been a pampered only child, not totally aware of her fathers business. However the day has come that Sam needs to take over. A little Naïve maybe, but Sam is determined to do her dad proud. Not everyone is backing Sam, some don't think this is what she should be doing, some will go all out to stop her. Can Sam rise above and prove she has what it takes or will it be easier to pass things over to another family member. Interesting, intriguing and a good page turner. This book left me wanting to read the next book in the series and as luck has it, I'm a little behind and have another 3 books my get my teeth in to. This book has a great mix of family, betrayal and crime. A gritty page turner. Edi Baylis has created an interesting start to a series, lets see what the rest of this series will be like, I'm certainly looking forward to it. This series is also available via Kindle Unlimited.
