Sophie Wells is a successful photographer with a focus on putting the past firmly behind her. When Josh Strachan returns to the seaside town of Cornwall from the States to run his family's hotel, he can't understand why the fun, sexy girl has zero interest in letting him-or any man for that matter-into her life. He also can't understand how he's been duped into employing Sophie's impulsive friend Tula, whose crush on him is decidedly unrequited. Both girls remain mum about the reasons behind Sophie's indifference to love. But that doesn't mean Josh is going to quit trying... 4/5 I have read a few of Jill's books in previous years. And enjoyed them. And this is another one of her books that I really did enjoy. The book is really well written and you almost feel at times that you could be there with the characters. Alex Cross’s whole world is crashing down around him. He has been hunted, stalked like prey, his predator priming himself for the kill. Cross has devoted his life to protecting others. Now he’s unable to protect even those closest to him. As a police detective, he has made many enemies, but never like this. Everything he loves is being taken from him. Soon he will have nothing and no one left Book 21. 5/5 I think the Alex Cross series is certainly one of my guilty reading pleasures. It's one of those series that you just can't help but like, and always ready for the next book. It's been a while since I read them, as I have had so so many books to read and enjoy that I had to give myself a little talking to and get back to them. I'm glad I did I remembered just how much I really do enjoy this series, in fact I'm the same with JP's other series to. I love the Women's Murder Club, and the Michael Bennett books. But I have to say this is one of the best I've read for a long time. Towards the end of this book, I started talking to it, getting annoyed getting upset, wanting the Characters to hear what I was saying. There are certainly a few hold your breath moments, and I think this has to be one of Alex Cross biggest challenges yet. I've seen quite a lot of one star reviews for this book, where people seem upset or disappointed on the way the book end's. As you need the next book to carry it on. But isn't that the idea with a series of books. That you want and can't wait for the next one, to find out what has happened. If you haven't read this book yet, then I really do recommend it. If you have read it, What did you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below. I'd love to hear from you. This step by step guide is for Mums everywhere - especially those who have had a less than idyllic childhood. This is a book to shine a little light on a path out of the darkness to help you be the Mum your kids need you to be. A true story of loss, hope, love and forgiveness. Through a childhood where she experienced abuse and bullying a little girl holds on to the dream of a family of her own where her children will have the childhood she wishes she had. However the stress and strain of motherhood together with the memories from her past threaten to overwhelm her as she is overcome with grief for her lost childhood. As she puts one foot in front of the other to ensure her kids have what she missed out on during her early years, her broken heart fills with love for them. Her healing begins and she embarks on a journey that leads her to living a life filled with love, passion and purpose. 5/5 A brilliantly touching well put together book. How one woman overcame struggles from her past, and managed to find a way forward. A way forward that worked for her, that helped her become the person and the mother she wanted to be. How she over came child hood memories that were less than perfect, but how she managed to turn herself around. A really interesting and touching read. It's important as a parent to understand, you will not know how to do everything, that sometimes you will get things wrong. But you can pick yourself up, and carry on, and at the end of the day the most important part of being a parent is loving your child, caring for them and doing your best. No one can ask for more than that. Well don Ber for having the courage to write this book. Thank you for my review copy, it was much appreciated. Detective Alex Cross is hunting three killers. But is someone hunting him? Three killers are on the rampage in the capital and dead bodies are piling up. Alex Cross is in charge of all three investigations and has never been under more pressure. But with a crisis at home that threatens to tear his family apart, Alex’s attention is divided. While Cross tracks the killers, he doesn’t notice that someone is tracking him. Can Alex unravel the cases and find the killers in time? Or will he be the next dead body on the list? 4/5 Wowzers... Book 20, I had read this what seems like forever ago, and wanted to get back into the series so rather than just go right in and read book 21, I decided to do a re read of this first. I have to say this is one of my many many favourite detective series. There is just something about Alex Cross that amazes and fascinates me. How the hell he is not dead yet I don't know. But luckily he's not or the series would have to stop, and I don't want that to happen. Another interesting read.
Book 2 in the Helen Grace series.
A man's body is found in an empty house. His heart has been cut out and delivered to his wife and children. He is the first victim, and Detective Inspector Helen Grace knows he will not be the last. But why would a happily married man be this far from home in the dead of night? The media call it Jack the Ripper in reverse: a serial killer preying on family men who lead hidden double lives. Helen can sense the fury behind the murders. But what she cannot possibly predict is how volatile this killer is - or what is waiting for her at the end of the chase... 5/5 Wow. This book certainly has a whole lot of action packed into it. Having just re read the first book, Eeny Meeny (which I would recommend if you are going to read, read them in order) I thoroughly enjoyed book one, but this one just blows it out the water. So much going on, you just want to continue reading, and once I started it, it really didn't take me long to finish as I had to read it ever time I got chance. To say I'm a little behind on this series is a bit of an understatement. But I do have the next 3 books on my Kindle waiting for me to start them, and I'll be diving into book 3 real soon, that's for sure. This book just flowed along brilliantly, with more than enough to keep you interested. A brilliant follow up to the first book, and I think it's safe to say this is going to be one hell of a series of books. If you have read book one, then you will Know Helen Grace is certainly a complex character. She has Flaws, Drive, Ambition and a past she's not to keen on. She also has BALL's, she is not afraid to challenge things, and deals with her stresses of her job and her life in a very different way to how other Book detectives deal with things. she's certainly not your normal head for the pub and get wasted kind of copper, after a bad day. Once you start this book, then I think you should put all plan's on hold. As you will not want to do anything but read it. Have you read this book? What did you think? Let us know in the comments below. 4,5 I was gutted when I actually realised I had this book out of order. I have read book 2 before book one. I was pretty angry with myself as I had them both side by side on my kindle and thought I'd got them the right way around. So after finishing, this Book 2. I have just started book 1. I enjoyed the story line in this book it was a little different, and I have to say the who dun-it part, I really didn't have a clue. I think I suspected more than one person throughout the book. We kick off with a murder, and different things have you thinking in different ways as to who and why, buy you just get it so so wrong. I have to say though, as much as I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, it just didn't have me holding my breath, It's a very interesting story and well put together. I liked most of the character and the way they were developed. I am thinking that we will be seeing a whole lot more from this author as this series grows, I believe it will just get better and better. Detective Sergeant Ava Merry and Detective Inspector Jim Neal. Neal is a single dad so as well as caring for his son Archie Juggles his busy work schedule with the help of his sister, who is living with them after her relationship break up. Merry is a single woman who is currently looking after her teenage brother along with working her busy job. she can be impulsive with just strengthens her character. Both of these coppers are really likeable characters and grew on me through out the book. One thing I feel I have to mention is the summary at the back of the book. I thought this was fantastic, and think there should be something like this at the end of each book, it was great to summarise all the characters up at the end. A real good addition. About the book. Who killed Gray Mitchell? Gray Mitchell’s body is found buried under fresh snowfall in the early hours of the morning outside Stromford Cathedral. D.I. Jim Neal and D.S. Ava Merry are called in to investigate. It seems that a number of people had motives to kill him, including Mitchell's partner. Then another shocking act of violence occurs, also connected to the cathedral. Detectives Neal and Merry’s investigation reveals an intricate web of secrets connecting the crimes. But there is something the detectives have missed, the dark secret which can break open the case. In a breathtaking climax, Jim Neal fights for the life of someone very close to him. If you like Angela Marsons, Rachel Abbott, Ruth Rendell, or Mark Billingham you will be gripped by this exciting new crime fiction writer. DARK SECRET is the second in a new series of detective thrillers featuring D.S. Ava Merry and D.I. Jim Neal. Ava Merry is a young policewoman, recently promoted to detective sergeant. She is fitness fanatic with a taste for dangerous relationships. Jim Neal is single dad who juggles his devotion to his job with caring for his son. Set in the fictional Northern city of Stromford, this detective mystery will have you gripped from start to shocking conclusion. Trust No One (Detective Jane Bennett and Mike Lockyer series Book 3) Kindle Edition by Clare Donoghue A marriage is what you make it, isn't it? It's what you put into it. It's not just about love, it's about understanding another person's point of view. Sometimes there are things you find out about yourself and each other which means the marriage has to end. Sad, particularly when kids are involved - but all pretty normal. Normal that is, until there's a murder. DS Jane Bennett and DI Mike Lockyer are called in to investigate one of the South London murder squad's most difficult and distressing cases yet - where family and friends come under scrutiny in the hardest of circumstances My Thoughts... 4/5 I enjoyed the first two books I read in this series, so was thrilled when I was approved for an early copy of this one. Book 3 in the Bennett and Lockyer series, is another great read. Another crazy case to solve. Not always simple, and can get a little tricky at times. Lockyer and Bennett are faced with what seems like a straight forward murder to start with, but soon figure out it's going to be difficult to figure out what has happened, and Who did it. A story full of twists and turns, a few times i kept thinking ohhhh it's such and such, I was quite shocked at the outcome and what had really happened. very well written and put together.
OK, So if you have read my post regarding catching up with reading This is the first book of 5 in a series. I have previously read this last year, yet due to the amount of books I read, I could only vaguely remember it. So I have just re read it, and have to say I didn't at any time feel like oh this is boring, I know what is going to happen. I actually really enjoyed it, I had an idea obviously what was going on, but some parts were wow, I don't remember that.
It was as good the second time around as it was the first, and it really has helped to get me back on track and eager to read the next 4 books in the series. you can read my original review HERE And if you are interested in reading my post on catching up with reading. You can do so HERE A Huge well deserved 5/5 First of all let me start by saying, If you are looking for a book that is going to get hold of you and drag you right into the pages from the first page to the last, then this is the book for you. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. Riley and Amy Hart, a pretty hot couple, not only are they sexy they are rich too. Pretty much the perfect happy couple. Or that is at least what Amy thinks. Or thought, until her husband is shot dead in their nightclub. Who could possible do something like this, kill innocent people. Only who is the innocent one. We soon learn that people are just not as they seem. And it becomes a big issue about who you can and can't trust. Is Amy really in the right state of mind, to decide who she can talk with, who she can trust. Or is every one out to take her for a ride. This is the second book by Nigel May that I have read, and it is just as good as the first one I read, which I must say was pretty awesome. I have one more of Nigel's books to read on my kindle, and one more I need to purchase to read, but I will be doing that sooner rather than later. This book does not disappoint, there was no stage all the way through that I wasn't sat wide eyed reading wondering just what the hell else can happen. I just can't say enough good things about this book. It really is an awesome read. Super big thanks to Netgalley, The Publishers and Nigel May for allowing me a review copy of this Amazingly fantastic book. Book Description What would you do if you saw your husband killed right in front of you … identified his body … had him cremated … then six months later received a letter written by him two days ago? Amy Barrowman grew up on the wrong side of the tracks. So when she falls in love with millionaire Riley Hart and he asks her to marry him she can’t believe her luck. She has found true love and her happy ever after. Riley Hart is a Millionaire Man about Town. Men want to be him and women want to bed him. But to achieve Riley’s status, you have to tread on a lot of toes and make a lot of enemies. When Riley is gunned down at the nightclub they own, Amy is determined to avenge his death. She receives a mysterious letter detailing a list of suspects including Riley’s sworn enemy, actor Grant Wilson. But with an obsessive passion brewing between her and Grant and a dangerous assassin trailing her every move it would seem Amy has opened a deadly and tempting Pandora’s Box. In settling the score for her husband has Amy put herself into terrible danger? A sizzling story of deadly secrets, perfect for fans of Tasmina Perry and Victoria Fox. In this sequel to Second Chances, the small town of Mason is reeling from the shock of its first murder, and the town’s prime suspect is a scared seventeen year old boy named Jamal Davis. In defiance against public opinion concerning the young man’s guilt, attorney Wade Anders steps up to defend Jamal with the help of his assistant, Trey Ross. The case places both Trey and Wade at odds with family and friends, most significantly with Trey’s girlfriend Sarah Williams. However, Wade is certain that his client is innocent, and he will not be deterred from his pursuit of justice. Amid the controversy surrounding the murder case, Trey is also forced to confront the blemished legacy of his deceased father and family fortune, which includes two newly discovered siblings who were never recognized as Ross heirs and are therefore seething with resentment toward Trey. With the aid of the questionable “legal latitude” of a seldom used state law, a rogue judge quickly disposes of Mason’s infamous murder case and denies the young defendant his constitutional right to a trial, leaving Wade and Trey baffled and desperate to rectify the injustice and free their client. At the same time, Mason’s small police department has been cooperating with a federal drug investigation in which Trey’s half brother has been linked to a ruthless drug dealer named Peg Leg. In an attempt to intervene in their brother’s downward spiral toward a life of crime, Trey and his half sister discover that their brother’s illegal activity includes much more than drug trafficking when they stumble upon evidence linked to Mason’s murder case. Because his sister insists that their brother is acting under duress, Trey’s loyalties become painfully divided between his family and his and Wade’s client. Within a matter of days Trey, Wade, and the residents of Mason realize just how depraved Peg Leg is when the police discover that Peg Leg coldly murdered one of his own associates on his way out of town to pursue Trey’s brother and eliminate the brother as a potential witness to Peg Leg’s numerous crimes. It appears that Peg Leg wields enormous power in deciding who will live and who will die, and that his network of criminal associates across the country is inexhaustible. Trey feels helpless as he struggles both to rescue his fleeing brother and to prove the innocence of Wade’s client. As the violence soon escalates in another town Trey finds himself offering to trade his own life for his brother’s, a selfless act that truly surprises many in his hometown who expected the worst of Trey because of his family’s tarnished reputation. Trey’s willingness to sacrifice himself is not only evidence of his own resolve, but it is also an indication that not everything is controlled by the evil drug lord Peg Leg. 3.5/5 I think the actual book description gives more than enough about the story. In a small town of Mason, it's first Murder has occurred. And the prime suspect is a 17 year old boy. His lawyers take on his case, and are soon faced with many problems. This really isn't going to be easy for them. In fact things soon become very complicated. this was an easy read and a quick one at less than 200 pages, it's a great weekend read for passing the time while chilling out, but with enough happening to keep you interested that before to soon you suddenly realise you are at the end of the book. An interesting novella. With plenty packed into it to keep you interested. |
