Title - Written in the Scars Author - Mel Sherratt Format - ebook Source - Review copy via Netgalley 5/5 Welcome to The Estate - where even the darkest times have their lighter moments... Scars. Sometimes they’re visible. Sometimes they’re hidden deep within. After years of living as a single parent, all Donna Adams longs for is someone to make her smile, to share hopes and dreams with, to keep her warm at night. But when that certain someone gives her the attention she craves, true love doesn’t always follow the right path. Home from the army, Lewis is a changed man. Angry and consumed by grief, troubled by nightmares and flashbacks, his mind is worse now than ever. Shutting out what he’s seen isn’t easy, but he risks losing everything he’s come back to if he doesn’t, including his sanity. Megan Cooper hides her scars for fear of being rejected. Mary Marshall can’t always remember how she got hers. If the past could be erased to make a better future, we’d all want that, wouldn’t we? But life is never that easy for the residents of The Mitchell Estate… WRITTEN IN THE SCARS is the fourth book in The Estate Series but each one can be read as a standalone novel.
Wow. Firstly what a year it has been for Mel Sherratt. Who is also now writing contemporary fiction under the name of Marcie Steele.
I can't believe we are now at book 4 in the Estate Series. A series I have enjoyed reading. And I felt like I was visiting somewhere I actually knew when I dived into this book. Set on the Mitchell Estate, It is easy to relate to. Most big area's have an estate of some description and the Mitchell Estate is no different from those, which is what helps the feel of the book, it is what helps make the book real. This book is mainly based around Donna, a resident that we can all relate to as a person. Hard working, caring for a family and her elderly mother. Wanting just that bit of something special. Also Lewis, another resident who is suffering after returning back to the estate from the Army. Life never seems dull on the Estate. We also see Josie, the Michelle Estate housing officer, although she's not in this book as much as previous books. As with other reviews i'm struggling with this one, not to give too much away. But anyone who has read the previous 3 books, will enjoy this addition. It seemed like a really easy read, no complicated plots to follow, but the book grabs you in the way you want to carry on read to see where the story is going.

The couple that offers the highest amount will see their daughter again. The losing couple will not. Make no mistake. One child will die. When nine-year-old best friends Charlie and Amy disappear, two families are plunged into a living nightmare. And when a second text message pits the two families against each other for the life of their children, the clock starts ticking for D.I. Kim Stone and the squad. Seemingly outwitted at every turn, as they uncover a trail of bodies, Stone realises that these ruthless killers might be the most deadly she has ever faced. And that their chances of bringing the girls home alive, are getting smaller by the hour… Untangling a dark web of secrets from the families’ past might hold the key to solving this case. But can Kim stay alive long enough to do so? Or will someone’s child pay the ultimate price? The latest utterly addictive thriller from the No.1 bestseller Angela Marsons. Oh my days............ I didn't know this series could get any better, But this is by far my favorite so far. This book will certainly be in my Top ten books of 2015. I enjoyed it so bloody much. It's amazing how this author is delivering book after book at such a high standard, and each book keeps you wanting more. Kim is back, and this time working a case that is slightly out of her comfort zone. But determined and head strong Kim sets out to solve yet another case. This time she is heading up the case of two missing girls. the girls have been kidnapped after leaving the local Leisure center. But these are no ordinary kidnappers, these have a game to play. and play it they do. Evil twisted minds, that destroy and wreck families. Families and friendships torn apart and put through hell. This really has to be every parents nightmare. And can Kim cope when the pressure is on. This was an absolutly brilliant read. I wanted to sit and read at every opportunity. But then as I got towards the 3/4 mark, I had to start slowing down, because I really didn't want this book to end. Gutted I have to wait for another one. This is one of those book's that if you discover it when a few others have been written after it, you would just have to dive right into the next one. Kim is one of those characters that really grows on you over time. She is a character I really do like. If you have not yet read the first two books, I really would recommend doing so before reading this, purely for getting to know the background of Kim. But you would get away with reading it as a stand alone. Angela, I don't know how you do it, but by god please keep doing it. Title - No Hiding Place Author - M A Comley Format - ebook Source - Review copy via author. 5/5 Book 2 in the DI Sally Parker thrillers I was so made up when I received a review copy of this book, so a huge thank you thank you thank you to Mel. I have over the years come to love Mel's book and her writing style. And i'm always eagre to get stuck in when I get one of her books. So as usual once I got this, my other book was put to one side so I could get stuck in. And as usual, Mel hasn't let her readers down. another brilliantly written story to get your teeth into. After the body of a woman is found Sally, is investigating what has happened and has a number of possible people it could be. But then it starts to prove very difficult to bring the case to a conclusion, not enough evidence and doubt around who the killer is, leaves this case unsolved for almost 6 months, that is until a second woman is murdered and all things start to change. Sally has to figure out if there are any links and what they could be. Who could be responsible for killing these two women. What sort of person is capable of doing that. I have to admit, I had figured out early on who the killer was, and occasionally thought I may have gotten it wrong. As this is the second book in this series, i am also enjoying getting to know the characters a little more. I would say you could read this as a stand alone book, but If you are anything like me, and enjoy getting to know the characters as much as reading the story, then I would read the first book before starting this. I am sooooo soooo ready for Mel's next book now...
Thank you to netgalley for a review copy of this book.
I have ready many many JP books, and enjoyed most of them. There was something a little different about this one, I didn't not like it, but I certainly didn't love it. It was readable, and I think having some (very basic) knowledge of golf helped me understand some of it. It just felt like the book was missing something, like the story was waiting to get started. If I hadn't seen the name on the cover, I would never have guessed that this was a JP book.
An unlikely serial killer with a bucket list of victims . . .
Police partners, D.I. Calladine and D.S. Ruth Bayliss battle a murderer who is working their way through a list of victims. Each murder is meticulously planned and unique, and a tarot card is left at the scene of the crime. When two children disappear in the local area, the stakes are raised and the team are baffled by the link between the crimes. Calladine and Bayliss race against time to prevent any more carnage.
Book 3 in what has so far been a brilliant series of books. I really have enjoyed these, and read all 3 pretty close together. I started this one as soon as I finished book 2 as I couldn't wait to start it.
Again, brilliantly written and thoroughly enjoyable. A great story line that keeps you wanting to carry on reading. I've seen a few reviews that say it doesn't matter if you haven't read any of the other books, but for me, I like the background and the history of the characters that you really only get the feel of if you have read the previous books, and read the in order. Calladine has returned to work after being off sick, and is right back into the thick of things, Missing children and Murders. He and his partner set out to find out what, why and they know the when. A brilliant read that kept me wanting more, I think so far this has been the best one of the three for me, Each book just seems to get better and better. It did seem like quite a quick read, and I really am looking forward to the next one.
Biography
I set my books in the area I both live and work in - so I know it well. This is an area that sits between two counties and between the city and the hills. So it offers a rich mix of the industrial and the countryside and all the character therein. I always planned to write crime novels - to create the characters in my books. Currently there are three books in the 'Calladine & Bayliss' series available - Dead Wrong, Dead Silent and Dead List. The fourth - I'm currently working on. Available on pre-order is the first book in the new 'DI Greco' series - Dark Murder hhdurrant.blogspot.co.uk/ Title - Dead Silent Author - Helen H Durrant Format - ebook Source - Purchased from Amazon Rating 4/5 A body is found in a car crash, but the victim was already dead . . . Police partners, D.I. Calladine and D.S. Ruth Bayliss race against time to catch a vicious serial killer. The first two victims are American university students and both have livestock tags fixed to their earlobes. Who wanted them dead and what’s the connection? The detectives piece together the forensic evidence and track down the witnesses, to reach a shocking conclusion.
After recently finishing the first book in this series, I couldn't wait to start the second book, which I purchased after reading just part of the first book.
Well I thought the first book was good, I enjoyed this one just as much, maybe just a little more. Getting to know the characters a bit more, I love how you learn so much about the characters as the books go on. This book certainly kept my interest peaked all the way through it. This book has it all, to keep you wanting to read on. Kidnap, murder. I enjoyed getting to know D I Calladine a lot more, and this one carries on where the last one left off, in regards to his personal life. I think Calladine and Bayliss make a great working pair. I am going right into the 3rd book now. |
