My thoughts.
New authors for me, So I never know what to expect when starting. I'd started one or two books that I couldn't get into. you know that horrible *I really don't know what to read* time. Well by the end of the first Chapter I had had a eye's bulging out my head and a holding my breath moment. Now to me, that is a good start. Then I start to think, well if it sets off so good, can it carry on just as good. And luckily.... yes it did.... And some.......... Children are going missing. The first child was taken from her house. The second from his mother's car. The third from her own bedroom... And it is down to Detective Inspector Patrick Lennon, to try to solve the case. To figure out what is going on and why. Not an easy case, and with demons of his own to overcome, it's going to be a very difficult time for this officer. This is Lennon's most High profile case to date, so obviously he is feeling the pressure. This book really does make you keep nipping into your little one's bedroom to check that she is ok and sleeping well. A brilliantly put together and well written book, and although the story line was about young children going missing, it was a brilliant read. Believable characters also help with the story. I found myself picking up my kindle at every opportunity, just so I could read a little bit more. And it didn't take me long to fly through this book. Every time I thought I had figured it out, it completely changed, Every chapter ended needing you to carry on and read the next one. This book had more twists that a super twister. Absolutely fantastic. I don't know how else to describe it. It was bloody brilliant. I am now looking forward to starting the next book.

She’s determined to shed a lot of pounds before the big day. As the wedding inches closer, will the new Debbie lose sight of what’s really important? Gill loves Mike and their blended family of five kids to bits, but with a house full of teenage hormones and her eldest, Kelly, struggling with so much change, Gill is feeling the pressure... As the women bond over cake and a cuppa, can they each resolve their wedding woes before the big day? My Thoughts A great fun and easy read. Something a little different for me, I seem to be sneaking in quite a few of these books in between my crime books. Julia is just starting work again after having her baby. She is offered the chance to plan a wedding that will out do all weddings before it. Where money is no object, how amazing would that be. Well maybe not. This book brings together Amiee, Debbie and Gill, along with Julia they all have one thing in common. Weddings. It's brilliant how you see some of each of the ladies lives in this book, and then how it all comes together is really well done, well written story that you just can't help but enjoy. I'm sure if you are anything like me you will like some characters more than others, but that just show's to me that the author has got the balance just right. A really enjoyable read, and I will read more from this author in the future.

My Thoughts.
Well let me start by telling you, just in case you didn't all ready know. I love this series. I have enjoyed everyone of these books. And Loved following Lorne on her journey so far. I was lucky enough to get an ARC copy of this book from Mel. And couldn't wait to get into it, My Lorne fix. Lorne is faced with a difficult task this time around of finding a kidnapper. The difference is she know's who this kidnapper is, or at least his name. But who is her really, and who he is linked to. It can't be, who she feels it is, Can it? Whoever it is, why is he doing it and what is it he want's. This time around its become personal for Lorne. And left to go it alone, on a mad chase around London, Time could end up being her enemy, will her strength shine through. Has she taken on too much with her new promotion, and who can she count on when the going get's tough. Another Amazing read in this series, a series for me that just seems to get better and better with each book, I had the added interest while reading this, as I was playing tourist around London, and had been reading this on the train, I'm pretty glad I didn't bump into Lorne though as she wouldn't have had time to speak to me, while I told her what she needed to do. Luckily she can think for herself. lol. But It was good being able to see places that i'd just read about in the book. As i've said before this series just get's better and better, and I can't wait for the next one. This is one of those series that one day I am going to read from the beginning all over again. Book one in this series if you have not started it, is currently free on Amazon. click the image below for more books in this series. Seven days after being abducted, the body of a twenty-year-old woman is found on a green patch of grass by the Los Angeles International Airport. She has been left with her limbs stretched out and spread apart, placing her in a five-point human star. The autopsy reveals that she had been tortured and murdered in a most bizarre way. But the surprises don't end there. This killer likes to play, and he left a note lodged inside his victim's throat. Detective Robert Hunter, who leads LAPD's Special Section, Ultra Violent Unit, is assigned the case. But almost immediately a second body turns up. Hunter knows he has to be quick. Surrounded by new challenges as every day passes, Detective Hunter finds himself chasing a monster. A predator whose past hides a terrible secret, whose desire to hurt people and thirst for murder can never be quenched - for he is DEATH. This terrifying new standalone thriller reunites Hunter and Garcia in their most explosive case to date. I read Chris Carter's An Evil Mind, not so long ago. And I thoroughly enjoyed it. When I got the chance of a review copy of this book I couldn't wait to read it. There is just something about these books, that as you end one chapter you are left needing/wanting to start the next chapter as soon as possible. I have only read the two books by this author, but this series is something that one day I really NEED to read from book one. The writing style along with the story line is just Amazing. It does say that this book is a standalone, but It doesn't hurt to have some idea of the characters when reading it. The Characters in this book Hunter and Garcia, are brilliant characters, and work so well together. This seems like it could be one of their toughest cases to date. After a young lady goes missing, and her body is found it come's down to weather or not Hunter and Garcia can figure out the why's and who before anyone else is hurt. This book really was another fantastic read, I didn't want it to end, but at the same time I had to read read read, because I wanted to know what was happening. Anyone who likes a bloody good crime thriller will love this book and I can't recommend it enough.

So when he receives a phone call from Los Angeles with news that his grown-up daughter's life is falling apart, his natural instinct is to drop everything to be with her. Unfortunately for Frank, that means using his life savings and putting himself in danger of losing his home. But then, Frank's never been one for long-term plans. He can sort out where he and Bill the cat will live when he's back. And so Frank gets on a plane for the first time in his life. He was never much good at helping his daughter through crises when she was growing up. He left all that to his wife Sheila, who died nearly ten years ago. Now it's time to step up to his role of father to Beth. Joining forces with his determined granddaughter Laura, they begin The Reunion Project in an attempt to bring some happiness back into Beth's life and to bring the family back together again for one happy family holiday.
Title - The Extra Ordinary Life of Frank Derrick Age 81
Author - J.B. Morrison Format - Paperback Source - Review copy Rating 4/5 A fun and very easy read. With a story that can also make you think. What must it be like to be elderly and lonely. So If you have an elderly neighbour, make 5 mins and pop and say hello to them. The book kicks off with Frank getting run over by a milk float, this in itself really tickled me, not that he got run over but the fact it was a milk float. Frank is such a likeable character. And some of his antics and thoughts are brilliantly funny. i'm concerned with saying too much here, as I feel it would spoil the book for those of you that have not yet read it. What I will say is give it a go. It really is a fun but interesting book. And follow the life of this 81 year old, and all he gets up to. Frank Derrick is eighty-one. And he's just been run over by a milk float. It was tough enough to fill the hours of the day when he was active. But now he's broken his arm and fractured his foot, it looks set to be a very long few weeks ahead. Frank lives with his cat Bill (which made more sense before Ben died) in the typically British town of Fullwind-on-Sea. He watches DVDs, spends his money frivolously at the local charity shop and desperately tries to avoid cold callers continually knocking on his door. Then a breath of fresh air comes into his life in the form of Kelly Christmas, home help. With her little blue car and appalling parking, her cheerful resilience and ability to laugh at his jokes, Kelly changes Frank's extra ordinary life. She reminds him that there is a world beyond the four walls of his flat and that adventures, however small, come to people of all ages.
Title - Working Girls.
Author - Maureen Carter Format - ebook Source - Purchased from Amazon. Rating 4/5 I first read this book in 2012/13. And I then went on to buy all the other books in the series. In typical me style, I have not read the others yet, so as i'm going through some of my series of books, I decided to re read this, to remind myself what had happened before I start book 2. It was just as good the 2nd time around, and I soon started to remember the characters. The Main one being Bev Morriss. SGT Bev Morriss is determined to find out who is behind the murder of a young girl, and goes back to basics to try and figure it out. A Brilliant first book in the series, and if this one is anything to go by, then the other 6 I have bought in the series can only get better. this book does grab you in pretty early, and is a great read for any crime/police procedural fans. From the Back Cover Just 15 years old... brutalised... dumped in a park... throat slashed... schoolgirl prostitute Michelle Lucas died in agony and terror ... utterly alone. Plunging herself into the seedy heart of Birmingham's vice-land she struggles to infiltrate the deadly jungle of hookers, evil pimps and violent johns. But no one will co-operate, no one will break the wall of silence... Is it fear or guilt? When a second victim dies, Bev knows time is running out. If she is to win the trust of the working girls - she has to take the biggest, most dangerous gamble of her life... out on the streets! Other books in the series. 1. Working Girls (2001) 2. Dead Old (2005) 3. Baby Love (2006) 4. Hard Time (2007) 5. Bad Press (2008) 6. Blood Money (2009) 7. Death Line (2010) 8. Grave Affairs (2014)
Well I have to say, I really did struggle with the start of this book. It just wasn't getting me, It wasn't dragging me in and shouting "Don't put me down"
But after reading a friends review, then another and seeing how much they enjoyed it. I stuck with it, but still only occasionally picking it up. And reading a chic lit book in between. I finally started getting to grips, and figuring things out, and enjoying it, around 40% in, and have to admit if it hadn't been for reading the review of a blogger who's judgement I trust, I would have put this down. I'm glad now that I did stick with it, as this is where it really gets going, really gets hold of you, and leave's you wanting to read and figure out what is going on, and what is going to happen. The last 60% I read a lot quicker than the first 40%. I will say I just didn't expect what happened, happening. It was a really good twist. And turned around in a way i really didn't expect. This is one of those books, that is difficult to say too much about without giving too much away. And I would hate to spoil it for anyone by saying to much. With a missing girl in the news, Claire Scott can’t help but be reminded of her sister, who disappeared twenty years ago in a mystery that was never solved. But when Claire begins to learn the truth about her sister, nothing will ever be the same.

My Thoughts
Well in typical me form, I went and bought NYPD Red 3, Then thought i'll just check that I read book 2. And no I hadn't so here I am with book 2 so I can read book 3. Did I mention I realllllllllllllllllllllllllllly need to catch up on all my reading. I've been reading so many review book's, the book's i've purchased are piling up and up and up. So I've always enjoyed James Patterson book's The Alex Cross and The women's Murder Club oh and Michael Bennett being my favorites. This one as usual kick's off at a pretty fast past. James Patterson books, seem to be those kind of books that when you just don't know what to read, these will see you though. You know that 9 times out of 10 you are really going to enjoy his books. And with so many to choose from you can't go wrong, with something that will appeal to everyone. The book seemed to just flow along, not so many holding your breath moments, more a comfortable read. All ready knowing the killers from early on, the main part is figuring out how it's all going to come together, how the cop's are going to figure it out. I liked the main characters again in this book, and felt that we got to know them a little more. I'm now looking forward to reading book 3. |
