I decided to do these two reviews together, as they are both a special eBook only series, and both short reads.
In these two we are right back at the beginning of Winters career. Pretty much this is where it all started for him. It has been great going back and getting to know him and how things came about. I had had these along with the other Jefferson Winter books on my kindle forever, and I had promised myself that I was going to start catching up with some of the series I hadn't started yet. Obviously at one point I had every intention of reading them as I had bought them all for my kindle. So now I can safely say I am well up to date with this series and the next full book of Jefferson Winter is out 2nd May 2017. So not long to wait for that one. Well I have certainly enjoyed reading these books and getting to know the Character. Although I do think there will be a lot more to come of him. I can see this being a long standing series, and one that readers will be eagerly waiting for each instalment. Please note these two are only short stories, but well worth getting to get to know the Character that little bit more.

Has Jefferson Winter finally met his match?
Six years ago a young married couple were found brutally stabbed to death in their home in Upstate New York. Local police arrested a suspect who later committed suicide. But what if the police got it wrong? Ex-FBI profiler Jefferson Winter is drawn into a deadly cat-and-mouse game with a mysterious female psychopath as she sets him a challenge: find out what really happened six years ago. The clock is ticking and, as Winter is about to find out, the endgame is everything . . . Well after reading book 2 I couldn't wait to dive right into this, Book 3 in the Jefferson Winter Series. I have to say I really am enjoying this series, getting to know the character, that I have to say he is pretty damn awesome. James Carol has worked wonders creating this guy and I look forward to reading many more books featuring him. I had had book one, two and three on my kindle for quite some time, so after promising myself I was going to play catch up with some of the series of books I still had to read, here I am just having finished book 3 and what a book it was. I have to say there is something about these books that once you start them you can't seem to stop until you are right at the very end, and then you just don't want it to finish. The action in this book starts right from the beginning, and for a short time I really thought Winter was in it up to his neck. He does seem to get himself in some crazy situations. The Ex FBI Profiler is working a case this time of lady, mmmm maybe wrong word, this time of a woman he has actually witnessed killing someone, and he ends up teamed up with Detective Mendoza, although it seems it's not her choice to work with him. How will things turn out, and will the good guys catch the bad, well the only way to find out is read the damn book. You'll not regret it. It's been interesting getting to know Jefferson Winter, bit by bit over these 3 books, and I have enjoyed each one so far. I certainly wouldn't have any problems recommending this series of books to anyone. And although I feel they certainly could be read as standalones, as usual for me I find it so much better to read books in order. But again this is just my personal thoughts.
The first in James Carol's thrilling Jefferson Winter series, Broken Dolls offers rapid-fire suspense and a chilling look into the mind of a criminal - and into the mind of the one man who might be able to catch him.
Ex-FBI star profiler Jefferson Winter is no ordinary investigator. An eccentric genius and self-described geek with a passion for Mozart, he is haunted by the legacy of his notorious serial killer father...and not likely to admit this may be why he has such a phenomenal insight into the psychology that drives the criminals he hunts. The former G-man is now a sought after freelance consultant, jetting around the globe helping local law enforcement agencies with their toughest cases. When Detective Investigator Mark Hatcher calls from Scotland Yard about a particularly disturbing case, Winter leaves his native California for the chilly streets of London to help track down a sadistic serial kidnapper. Four victims, all young women, all tortured and then lobotomised. None of them able to tell the police the name of their attacker. None of them able to live normal lives again. Just broken dolls, played with then discarded. When another young woman goes missing, Winter has to race against the clock to identify the attacker and find the latest victim before it's too late.
Well According to good old Amazon, it says You purchased this item on 11 Jul 2014. So I guess it's about time I caught up with the series, as I also have 4 more books from this author waiting patiently on my kindle, I need to get a wiggle on.
I really wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but yeah, I enjoyed it. A good page turner that will keep you interested throughout. This is book one in the Jefferson Winter series and I have to say not a bad start. Ex FBI Profiler Winters is now a freelance consultant and on a case trying to help find someone who is abducting women, and then lobotomising them. It's a bit of a sick thing to do and really does add to the creepiness of this story. Winter is a great character and seems very good at what he does. I'm looking forward to reading more of this series now and seeing how things go for him, I'm ready to get to know him a little more and will be reading the next book soon. Product details
Imagine you are having lunch at an exclusive restaurant, filled with Hollywood’s hottest stars. And a masked gunman walks in and takes everyone hostage. You must bargain for your life against a twisted individual who knows everything about you. He also has a bomb set to detonate if his heart rate changes. If he dies. You die. You have four hours to stay alive. What would you do? A heart-stopping thriller with plenty of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat, for fans of Peter Swanson, Harlan Coben and Linwood Barclay. What a story. How going out for lunch can change your whole life. This book actually left me thinking of this scenario way long after I'd finished reading it. It may not have helped my cause being sat in a local restaurant waiting for my hubby to arrive, I sat reading this on my kindle. (not while eating, just while waiting for hubz) But then all through lunch I kept looking at the door weighing everyone up as they come in. Out lunching in a restaurant fit for the Hollywood fabulous. Business, Pleasure the guy that walks in with a bomb strapped to his chest really couldn't give two hoots why you are there. The fact is you are there, and for him, it's now time to play a game. A game of life. What would you do to stay alive. Well this is what some of Hollywood's Elite are to figure out. Part way through this book I was thinking it might go around the 4/5 star read for me, as I was enjoying it. But the more I got into the book, the more I enjoyed it and by the time I was getting near the end, I knew it would be wrong to give it anything less that a 5 star rating. So many questions racing around your head while reading, as I say not only What would you do? But Why is this bomber doing it, what can motivate someone into going into a restaurant and holding innocent people hostage. It really does get your heart racing, and maybe your blood pressure to. Make sure you have some nails to bite while reading this. A book I really would recommend without hesitation. A super big thank you to the publishers for an ARC of this book. It's all about choices. Choose to live, Choose to die. it's your choice, or is it? Dare I admit this is the first book I've read by this author, I know James Carol is writing here as J.S. Carol, but I haven't read any James Carol books previously. I'm sure that is now about to change as believe it or not when investigating this, I discovered that I have 3 of James books on my Kindle which I purchased in 2014 to 2015. How bad is that, having 3 books of a series I have purchased that I have not yet read. |
