You trust her with your family. Would you trust her with your life?
Mark and Melissa Cain are thrilled to have found Jade, a babysitter who is brilliant with their young children. Having seen her own house burn to the ground, Jade needs them as much as they need her. Moving Jade into the family home can only be a good thing, can’t it? As Mark works long hours as a police officer and Melissa struggles with running a business, the family become ever more reliant on their babysitter, who is only too happy to help. And as Melissa begins to slip into depression, it’s Jade who is left picking up the pieces. But Mark soon notices things aren’t quite as they seem. Things at home feel wrong, and as Mark begins to investigate their seemingly perfect sitter, what he discovers shocks him to his core. He’s met Jade before. And now he suspects he might know what she wants … Mark is in a race against time to protect his family. But what will he find as he goes back to his family home? If you loved reading The Girl on the Train, Behind Closed Doors and The Sister, you’ll love the suspense of The Babysitter. This unputdownable read will have you turning the pages until way after dark.
What a great read. As this book started and I was slowly getting into the story, I just knew something was going to happen. The anticipation of it, was a similar feeling to not wanting to look under the bed, in case the bed monster was lurking to grab you and eat you up. Great build up and suspense the story.
What a great read this was. When Jade's cottage burns down, she is taken in by Mark and Melissa, she then becomes Mark and Melissa's babysitter. It seems Melissa is slowly losing the plot, Mark starts to doubt her and her ability to look after the children and is so grateful that Jade is there to lend a hand. Odd things have started to happen that looks like Melissa isn't coping at all. But it seems Jade is not at all the helpful babysitter she portrays. This book was good, it was damn good. Guessing and thinking the whole way through it. It has you wondering if you are on the right track, have you figured it out? then you change your mind. Then you change it again. This story shows how one person can change the lives of others. This book felt totally different from the previous books I have read by this author, A great read and her other books are well worth checking out if you haven't already read them. I look forward to reading more books by Sheryl Browne in the future.

Tormented to the edge of sanity …
Just when DI Matthew Adams thinks he’s left the past behind him, it comes back to haunt him once again; this time in the form of the Conner family. Like Matthew, the Conners have lost a child in tragic circumstances – and they’ve also found themselves in the hands of one of the most depraved criminals to walk the streets: ‘Dead-eyed’ Charlie Roberts, a drug addicted low-life with a penchant for extreme violence. Matthew’s greatest affinity lies with Daniel Conner, the brooding father who still blames himself for his youngest child’s death. But when Daniel’s wife and daughter are tortured and tormented by Roberts, can Matthew prevent him from completely ruining his own life for an act of revenge particularly when, once upon a time, that’s exactly what Matthew would have done too?
Thrilled when I spotted this book on Netgalley, then I had a tense wait to see if I was approved, I squealed with excitement when I was. I couldn't wait to start it. I really did enjoy book 1 & 2 in the this series. DI Matthew Adams is a great character. Full of flaws, doesn't always get things right, but gives it his all when it's needed. I discovered Sheryl Browne earlier this year and now we are at book 3, Sheryl certainly knows how to write a damn good page turner.
So the book... Another gruelling case for DI Matthew Adams. And this case has some aspects that Adams can relate to. The Connor family lost a child in a terrible car accident, their life seems to then spiral out of control. Not only are the mother and father, Jo and Daniel struggling with each other, and not understanding how each other copes with grief, their teenage daughter Kayla is clearly struggling to, but with her mother and father not seeming to notice, Kayla goes off the rails a little and gets caught up with a known thug and drug dealer, Charlie. Charlie is one evil little *so and so (*replace with your own words, I couldn't print mine), he thinks about no one but himself, and he really is big trouble. This book is one hell of a page turner, and like Sheryl's other books I did not want it to end. I found myself picking up my kindle at every opportunity. A damn good page turner. It leaves you wanting more, and doing your best to find the time to keep reading. For me personally I would recommend you read these books in order as you will get a much better feel of the backgrounds of the main characters. I guess it could be read as a stand alone but I really feel it's better read as part of the series in order.
Description
What if you’d been accused of one of the worst crimes imaginable? Detective Inspector Matthew Adams is slowly picking up the pieces from a case that nearly cost him the lives of his entire family and his own sanity too. On the surface, he seems to be moving on, but he drinks to forget – and when he closes his eyes, the nightmares still come. But the past is the past – or is it? Because the evil Patrick Sullivan might be out of the picture, but there’s somebody who is just as intent on making Matthew’s life hell, and they’re doing it in the cruellest way possible. When Matthew finds himself accused of a horrific and violent crime, will his family stand by him? And will he even be around to help when his new enemy goes after them as well?
Having just read and thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, After She's Gone, I really couldn't wait to start this one. Book 2 sees us back in the life of DI Matthew Adams, and his family.
Becky his wife, Ashley his Niece and little Mia his 2 yr. old Daughter. What more can life throw at this family. Well, an awful lot as it happens. At a family wedding, still suffering from the trauma of them all being attacked by Patrick Sullivan, the Adams Family are trying to continue with normal family life, whatever normal is. But normal family life isn't going to be possible when Matthew becomes an internet sensation, and not in a good way. A video of him has been posted on line, and has soon gone viral. With no recollection of what happened, its down to him to piece everything together and figure out what the hell went on. And why. Why is Ashley's friend Jasmine so intent on being a nasty evil piece of work. The character of Jasmine, I hated right from the word go, and it was around a quarter of the way through when I started to wonder if she was a certain person. I was proved right, my detective skills working full throttle, But I think that is because I read this book right after the first one, If I had left any time between books I don't think I'd have made the connection so early. Having guessed did not take anything away from the book, I think it added to the suspense of who was who and they whys behind the crimes committed. The author has done an astounding job with this book, characters you hate, that if possible I could have quite happily put my hand into my kindle and throttled Jasmine. But at the same time I wanted to love and reassure the Adams family that everything would be ok, of course it wasn't but I so wanted to support them. I really was dragged into this book, and I have read this one like the first one, at every opportunity. I loved the story line and think it was brilliantly put together but this book took my mind away from everything other that what was happing in the book, it held my interest the whole of the way through it. I flew through the first quarter of the book, holding my breath wondering how the hell it was going to turn out. Just brilliant, I can't say much more than Just brilliant. I eagerly await more from this author and I need to read more about DI Matthew Adams.
Sheryl Browne brings you edgy, sexy contemporary fiction and psychological thriller. A member of the Crime Writers’ Association, Romantic Novelists’ Association and awarded a Red Ribbon by The Wishing Shelf Book Awards, Sheryl has several books published and two short stories in Birmingham City University anthologies, where she completed her MA in Creative Writing.
Recommended to the publisher by the WH Smith Travel fiction buyer, Sheryl’s books come to you from multi-award winning Choc Lit. Sheryl lives in Worcestershire with her husband, son and a variety of disabled dogs. According to readers of her thrillers, she also apparently makes an excellent psychopath. He’s killed your child and kidnapped your wife. What would YOU do? There’s evil and then there’s Patrick Sullivan. A drug dealer, pimp and murderer, there are no depths to which Patrick would not sink, and Detective Inspector Matthew Adams has found this out in the most devastating way imaginable. When Patrick’s brother is shot dead in a drug bust gone wrong, the bitter battle between the two men intensifies, and Matthew finds it increasingly difficult to hold the moral high ground. All he wants is to make the pimping scum suffer the way he did … the way Lily did. But being at war with such a depraved individual means that it’s not just Matthew who’s in danger. Patrick has taken a lot from Matthew, but he hasn’t taken everything – and now he wants everything. Well Sheryl Browne is a new author for me, but I can certainly say this won't be the only book I read from this author. What a fantastic read. I found myself so lost and engrossed in this book, I really couldn't put it down. A story of how hatred can ruin lives. The first book in a new series, DI Matthew Adams is a cop on a mission. And that is to put his childhood bully and now Criminal, Patrick Sullivan behind bars. For Good. Matthew and his wife Becky are trying to rebuild life after a tragedy, But Sullivan seems hell bent on Matthew and his family suffering, and is out for blood after the death of his brother. I got so involved in this book right from the off, I needed to read it, I needed to carry on reading at every opportunity. I was holding my breath wondering what the hell was going to happen next. I can't say to much about the actual story, as I feel I would give far to much away and spoil it for anyone who has not read it. But what I can say is, it's a brilliant story, engrossing and well worth spending your time reading. Make yourself comfy and get stuck in. I was lucky to receive an Arc of this book, and thrilled that I have now found another author who I can add to my must read list. A truly fantastic unputdownable read. A must read for all Crime thriller fans. A special thanks to Shell over on http://chellesbookreviews.blogspot.co.uk/ for pointing me in the right direction to this book. I was thrilled to be able to read an Arc of it. |
