I'm loving this
Another brilliant read from this very talented author. I don't think I've read a book that I haven't enjoyed by M.R This one is just great, its the second book to feature Private Investigator Beverley Saunders and her odd side kick, Doc. I loved the first book and this one is just as good. A serious story to follow that is filled with some great humour. Another brilliant read from this very talented author. I don't think I've read a book that I haven't enjoyed by M.R This one is just great, its the second book to feature Private Investigator Beverley Saunders and her odd side kick, Doc.. A serious story to follow but I love the humour that is slotted in here and there. I especially loved Bev when she became Gail, she was a great character to read about. The relation ship between Bev and Doc is done brilliantly. the put downs and come backs between them are priceless. I chuckled so much while reading this. Yet it covers some serious topics, and some of the crap that is blighting Manchester at the moment, 'Spice' A crazy drug that see's people hooked pretty much as soon as they start it. it's an evil drug and I think covering subjects that are very topical in the news etc is brilliantly done. I loved how many of the places mentioned in this book that I actually knew, that i'd been to, places i'd visited and places up the road from where I live. i'm loving this authors work and can't recommed this enough. Treat yourself, get your feet up and Enjoy.

This got bumped up my TBR pile after reading some great reviews on it. The description of this book got me excited to read it.
Having a failed marriage behind her Bev is living in the basement flat of a wealthy friend. Her former career is over and Bev needs to be doing something to bring in some money. Her bills are piling up, her rent isn't being paid. Beginning to do Private investigative work, Bev soon has a client in need of her help. The wife of The Shadow Science Minister want's a divorce. Her husband is nasty and controlling and she's desperate to break away from him. This book had me hooked, well and truly hooked. You know from quite early on that this story was building up to something big, something explosive, which means every opportunity I had to sit and read some more. Not sleeping also helped as instead of arguing with my self that I needed sleep I just picked up my kindle to read some more. A superbly written story that felt very different to have the main character as a private detective rather than a police officer or gangster. I love that the setting of this book in and around Manchester meant that I knew a lot of places that were mentioned. I always find it really helps add to the visual of the story. The character of Bev was first class, I loved everything about her, in fact I loved everything about this book it's gritty, thrilling, an edge of your seat page turner but with some humour throughout. This book has everything, and more. Is Bev getting herself in too deep and causing herself more upset than is needed? Can she help Alison break away from her controlling husband. Well to find out you need to read the book and I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this book. Product details

So begins a fierce battle for the South Side, with the leading Manchester gangsters taking the law into their own hands – but only the strongest will survive… Two Manchester families. One runs the North one runs the South.
Tensions are high, when Paddy O'Brien is stabbed in his brothers night club. It isn't long before Paddy decides its time for out, and his long Suffering wife is expected to go along with anything he says. "you say jump, we say how high" But things are never straight forward and there will be a few spanners thrown into the works through out the story. An interesting read with a few twists you really didn't expect. It keeps engrossed and wanting more. Some brilliant character throughout this book, some are more likeable than others, but certainly interesting. I seem to have has a phase of reading books in and around Manchester and I find they really add to a story for me, as I can really visualise a lot of the places. This book certainly kept my interest and I was surprised, ok more than surprised on the way it ended. It all seemed to come together brilliantly. It's a gritty read. It's certainly different from the last book I read by Marnie Riches and different in a very good way. I will certainly be reading book 2 when that come out, It will be interesting to see where things go.

Flicking through my kindle wondering what to read next, I realised I had purchased this book back in August 2015, so I thought it high time I read it. As I also have the next book I thought it would be good to catch up on a series I hadn't started yet.
I had read a few reviews on the books a good while back, and decided I needed to go into it with an open mind. While it was an interesting read, I found I struggled quite a bit with some of the pronunciations, but tried not to let this put me off. Set mostly in Amsterdam, The Girl Who Wouldn't Die is the first of what I believe is so far 4 books. It's a readable read, but I didn't find myself drawn in, or really needing to keep picking up the book. It didn't seem to grab me or hold me and I found I continued reading for the sake of reading it. I will however continue with the series as I am hoping the next book will draw me in some more, and being a little more familiar with the characters should help me along. |
