‘I read this book in one night and all I have is 3 words. Oh my god.’ ☆☆☆☆☆ Reader Review
Even perfect mothers have secrets… Leah. She’s the perfect mum to ten-year-old Samuel, wife to loving husband Thomas, head of the PTA. But her closet is full of skeletons - and if the truth gets out, her world could be destroyed. Annie. She’s the gangster’s moll with a brain. She might be a woman, but she’s not afraid to get her hands dirty to play the men at their own game. But what no one knows is the devastating secret haunting her. Terry. He’s the king of Glasgow gangland, working his way up from estate to mansion. From drugs to guns, there’s nothing he won’t stop at to grow his dirty money. He might be a hard man, but his weakness is women. As their three stories collide, the lives of each will never be the same. Because even perfect women hide dark secrets… Don’t they?
I really don't know what can be said about this book without giving anything away. What a superbly written, gripping read this turned out to be.
Where do these authors get their ideas. First class. This isn't your typical gangland thriller, this is a gangland thriller with a twist. Annie walks into the life of Terry, a hard man, a well known face in and around Glasgow, Terry has his hands in many pies. Terry pretty much falls for Annie right from the start to the contempt of his driver Richie. He is very much against this new relationship. Is he feeling a little left out or is it just because he's just ended one relationship suddenly. Leah is married to Thomas and mother to Samuel. Her 10 year old son is her world. She will do anything for him, but Leah is keeping a secret and her perfect little world is about to come crashing down around her. When worlds collide things can only go very wrong. Addictive read. Alex Kane is certainly making a name for herself in the Gangland Crime book world. Certainly an author to follow. If you haven't read any of her books I can thoroughly recommend them. Well worth reading. This was certainly a book I struggled to put down, another one that as you get nearer then end you want to stop reading just so you can make it last a little longer, but you are too far into this read that it's impossible to slow down or put it down.

I would absolutely love to see this series as a TV drama. I just love the characters that Joy Ellis has developed and having read all the books I feel like the characters have grown with me, through each book I feel like I have new friends.
This book or even the series will not disappoint any crime thriller fans. I have no problems what so ever recommending this series to anyone. Secrets on the Fens. This book kicks off with a double murder, a young couple are found together in the woods, they way they are certainly makes you think that they are lovers. Nikki and Joseph need to find out just who they are. When more bodies are found it becomes apparent that this is a race against time to find out who is behind this and why? Although we are 12 books in to this series, each story and each case still feels fresh. Sometimes I find when an author is so many books in things start to get repetitive and turn a little stale. This is NOT the case with this author, I can assure you of that. A very well written book that will keep you hooked, enough going on to keep you guessing and engaged, but not too much that you lose what is going on in the plot. First class as always. The only problem I have with this series is having to wait for the next instalment.

And can the family get through this together...Or will the truth finally tear them apart? A stunning, deeply emotional and beautifully realised cross between SOPHIE'S CHOICE and DAUGHTER. Product description Review' Ambitious and articulate' - Daily Mail 'The fantastic writing kept me hooked from the very first page.' - The Guardian 'It's a story... that carries a real twist.' - Manchester Evening News Book Description An emotional story of one mother's impossible choice between her two daughters, with a delicious side of tension. Perfect for fans of Linda Green and Amanda Prowse.
My thoughts on this book...
What a difficult choice to make as a 'mother. This turned out to be quite an emotional read. It is full of emotion, guilt, love, lies. A mother on her way home from a lovely holiday is run off the road in her car, by a car that seems to be coming right at them. What do you do in a situation like this. SWERE, then land in a lake. You are now faced with the prospect of you and your children drowning. It seems there is only time to save one of your daughters, but which one do you choose. How can any mother face a situation like that. This is exactly the situation that Lizzie finds herself in. Lizzie injured and traumatised but must now face a police investigation. Do the police think she has deliberately done this, that she put her children in danger on purpose. It doesn't help when Lizzie can't seem to actually recall what happened. Slowly things happen and she gets flashes of that night. Will she be able to piece it all together, save her sanity and her family. This will have you gripped, an enjoyable, sometimes tense and more times emotional this book will keep you awake until you finish it. This is one of those books that you can't help yourself with the what if it was me, what would I have done.

Another first class, edge of your seat, thrilling read from this very talented author. A fantastic start to a new series.

A first class fast paced read that will grab you early on and keep hold of you. This author has the ability to surprise with each and every book she writes. What readers say about Owen Mullen: 'Owen Mullen knows how to ramp up the action just when it’s needed… he never fails to give you hard-hitting thrillers that have moments that will stay with you forever...' 'One of the very best thriller writers I have ever read.' 'Owen Mullen writes a good story, he really brings his characters to life and the endings are hard to guess and never what you expected.'
Ohhh my, this book got all the stars from me. What a read!
I really don't know what I was expecting when I dived into this book, but oh my it was better than anything I could have expected. Wow. I loved it. This was my kind of book, A gritty, thrilling Gangland thriller. I'm not going to compare this book to other authors in this genre because I felt it was just in a class of it's own. I will certainly be watching for future books from this author. For some people Family is everything, for others it's nothing. Luke has just gotten out of prison and has decided the 'family firm' isn't for him. Way too much has gone on in the past and he needs to move on. However with a Brother like Luke's it may not be Possible. Danny is a control freak, dangerous and not a bit nice. He wants everything done his way. There are some great shockers in this book and twists I can say 'I really didn't see them coming' The more you read of this book the more you either like or hate the characters, The more you read, the more you can not put it down, but then you get to the point that as much as you need to carry on reading, you really dont wont it to end. Bravo ~owen Mullen. Loved it and hope there will be more to follow.
The stunning new thriller from No. 1 Sunday Times bestseller Stuart MacBride.A village on the edge…
As a massive storm batters the Scottish coast, Gordon Smith’s home is falling into the North Sea. But the crumbling headland has revealed what he’s got buried in his garden: human remains. A house full of secrets… With the storm still raging, it’s too dangerous to retrieve the bodies and waves are devouring the evidence. Which means no one knows how many people Smith’s already killed and how many more he’ll kill if he can’t be found and stopped. An investigator with nothing to lose… The media are baying for blood, the top brass are after a scapegoat, and ex-Detective Inspector Ash Henderson is done playing nice. He’s got a killer to catch, and God help anyone who gets in his way. ‘Stuart MacBride’s deft plotting and whipcrack dialogue, along with a strong sense of place, make The Coffinmaker’s Garden a must read. If you like your serial killers with lashings of dark humour, this is for you’ Peter Robinson, no. 1 bestselling author of the DCI Banks series 'The Coffinmaker's Garden is brilliantly creepy, with the most cleverly conceived crime scene I've ever read. His legions of fans will love this – it's an unmistakable Stuart MacBride cocktail of dark violence and even darker humour’ Jane Casey, Sunday Times bestselling author of The Cutting Place
I hadn't realised this was the 3rd book in a series. If I had realised I would have read them in order. but hey ho, too late now. I could always read it again when i've read the first two books.
Its a very cold night in Scotland and a house on the coastal hill has it's garden crumbling away with the erosion. Bit by bit the garden is disappearing into the sea. This would be a nightmare at any time but this house has something very interested burried in the garden.. 'Human Remains' Ash Henderson and Dr Alice MacDonald are called in to help with the case. Working for theLateral Investigative and Review Unit they are to work alongside the police. I found this a really good story that felt so different from a normal thriller, it felt new and fresh. I liked in parts the dark humor in this book and as such a serious story to be told, it was good that you als get the occasional chuckle. There are two big plot lines through this book, which makes for really interesting reading. A lot going on, which really adds to the intensity. A gripping enjoyable read.
The enemy is close to home in The Manor, a gripping gangland thriller from the top five bestseller Jessie Keane.

As the feud caused by Harlan spirals out of control it is left to Belle to pick up the pieces. Is she strong enough to take on Harlan Stone? And has she got what it takes to rule the manor . . .
Huge, Huge Jesse Keane fan here. I have read all her books and know to expect a gripping read. This book is one of the best I have read this year, my goodness 'keane can write a damn good book. Wow is pretty much all I want to say. Absolutely loved this book. It was gripping, thrilling and interesting but there was just something about this book that made it so easy and enjoyable to read. I flew through this book in no time. Something I regret the minute I've finished it, I should have tried to make it last longer but I just couldn't.

Another book that is so difficult to review without giving spoilers. Everything about this book is gripping, breathtaking and nail biting. All the ususal cleches but all true. I could not put this book down, Jessie has excelled herself with this book. It's alway a worry when authors have done so many books that they start to go off the boil a little, this certainly isn't the case with Jesse Keane, she can engage the reader and reel them in right from the begininning fo the book. What a ride this one is . Bravo, can't wait for more. All the stars and more.

Caz Finlay has developed a knack of making me hold my breath, bite my nails and fall off the edge of my seat while reading. A family like no other, A gangland family run by the Mother. Grace Carter is a force to be reckoned with and here in book 4 she is as bold and fierce as ever. Loyalty to Grace is everything, if you can't trust those closest to you who can you trust. This book has it all for a gripping read and believe me when I say, once started you will just need to finish it. The writing and characterisation is perfectly put together. characters you have gotten to know a little over the previous books continue to shine and grow. Grace and Michael Carter are determined to get their boys out of prison and as parents they will use what ever means necessary to get their boys home. Another book on my best Gritty Gangland book reads. Caz Finlay is an author who will be at the top of a lot of readers must read list. I need more and I need it now! |
