When the Waters Recede
When a car is pulled from raging floodwaters with a dead man in the front and the decapitated body of an evil woman in the boot, Cumbria’s Major Crimes Team are handed the investigation. The woman is soon recognised, but the man cannot be identified and this leads the team and their former leader, Harry Evans, into areas none of them want to visit. Before they know it, they’re dealing with protection scams and looking for answers to questions they didn’t know needed to be asked. My thoughts.................5/5
Well, well, well. Mr Smith has done it again. What a damn good read that was.
I was thrilled when I was offered the chance to read and review this book and also be part of the blog blitz. It's a huge honour to get the chance to take part in something like this when it's for a book you know you'll love, and a book you've really been looking forward to reading. As I said, Mr Smith has done it again. I love love love the character of Harry Evans. I don't know exactly what it is about him, he's just, well he's just Harry. A character i've grown to love. Cumbria, in the aftermath of the floods that have hist parts of Cumbria the body of a male is found trapped in a car. What looks like it could have been a tragic accident turns into something more when it's discovered that there is a body in the boot of the car. The body of a woman that has been decapitated. Now if that's not an opening to get your blood pressure going I don't know what is. The car turns out to be stolen. But who are the two people in the car, and how are they linked. How have they both come to be in this car. Harry Evans is retired from the force, but the force is his life. It's all he's ever done. Returning as a consultant to help out occasionally when needed, this is the one thing that is going to help Harry stay as part of the force. What is hard now for Harry is the fact that he has to adjust to being a civilian and not a copper. Working alongside Lauren, he's quick to get a head up about the case and soon becomes involved in helping to trace who the driver was and the identity of the woman in the boot. I liked Lauren, I loved the connection between her and Harry, she's a good character that this outing we seemed to see a different side to her. I really don't know how I can do this book the justice it deserves. I don't know where Graham Smith is going with this series, but by god i'm glad i've found it. I really can't wait to read more, and more and more. Grahams books have fast become those type of books that you really don't need to see what the book is about, you just know if Graham Smith has written it, you want to read it. This story will certainly keep you going, keep you guessing and leave you wanting more. I certainly have no problems at all recommending this book. Infact I recommend each and every book. Personally for me I would say this series is better if read in order, but it's not completely necessary.
