One girl found dead. Another girl gone...
Long shadows danced on the tin walls. Inside the trunk lay Carrie Miller, wrapped in plastic, arms folded across her ribcage, lips sealed tight forever... When, a girl’s body is found at a Midlands storage unit, it is too decomposed for Detective Robyn Carter to read the signs left by the killer. No one knows the woman in blue who rented the unit; her hire van can’t be traced. But as the leads run dry another body is uncovered. This time the killer’s distinctive mark is plain to see, and matching scratches on the first victim’s skeleton make Robyn suspect she’s searching for a serial killer. As Robyn closes in on the killer’s shocking hunting ground, another girl goes missing, and this time it’s someone close to her own heart. Robyn can’t lose another loved one. Can she find the sickest individual she has ever faced, before it’s too late? An utterly gripping and darkly compelling detective thriller that will have fans of Robert Dugoni, Angela Marsons and James Patterson hooked from the very start. You will not guess the ending!
Well if there has to be one advantage of being a little late to the party, it is the fact that I have gotten to read all 3 books in such a short time to each other. Non of this trying to remember any of the main characters.
Book 3 in the Detective Robyn carter Series, is just as good as the first two. Here we are back with Detective Robyn Carter. A great character, and getting to know has been interesting. Robyn is still struggling after losing her husband, and wishes he was with her, life is lonely so what do you do? get yourself stuck into a new case. The body of a missing girl is found in a storage warehouse, but no one knows who the woman is that had the chest put in there. It's not to long before a second body turns up and it soon starts to look like this is the same killer, but still the team have no idea who they are looking for. This book certainly keeps you going, page after page, you want to read just that little bit more. I love it when a book grabs my attention and this certainly did that. I love the main character Robyn, she seems like a woman who is passionate about what she does, yet cares about the people around her. I'm looking forward to book 4 which I now get to read right away, and consider myself very lucky to be able to do so. Looking forward to it because the ending of this book has really left me needing the next one. NOW! As always I say this is part of a series, and I personally think the books are better read in order, but you could get away with reading it as a stand alone. But personally i'd just buy yourself all 3 books now and lock out the world, by the time you finish them book 4 should be available. How cool is that? Thanks again to Bookouture for allowing me the chance to read and review this book. You can read my reviews on book one and twohere

Secrets of the Dead:
Detective Robyn Carter - Book 2 Carol Wyer.
‘This book was fantastic and it kept me gripped from the first page and I read it in a day, I really, really didn't want to put it down – it’s one of the best I've read so far in 2017 … Would not hesitate to give the book 5 stars!!’ Donna’s Book Blog Colourful, plastic boats were scattered in puddles on the floor. In the bathtub lay Linda Upton, fully-clothed, lips a shade of blue, and bloodshot eyes wide open. When a young mother is found drowned in the bath, clutching a receipt saying ‘all debts paid’, Detective Robyn Carter knows it’s just the beginning of a harrowing case. She recognises the signs of a serial killer, and a second victim with a receipt confirms her worst fears. There are no witnesses. The victims had no debts. With the body count rising and the local press whipping the public into a frenzy, Robyn is under pressure to solve the crime in record time. But her team can’t find a link between the victims, and the cracks are starting to show. Just when her leads have dried up, Robyn discovers photographs in two of the victims’ houses, which she thinks could unlock the case. But as she hones in on the killer’s shocking motive, one of her own is put in terrible danger. Can Robyn stop the most twisted killer of her career before it’s too late?
I have recently finished the first book in this series, 'Little Girl Lost' and convincing myself that when I read a book, I must then read any other books I have outstanding on my TBR pile by that author. so far I've stuck to it (kind of) it was right onto this book 2.
So I get to learn a little more or Detective Robyn Carter right after meeting her in the first book. Robyn is certainly growing on me, and I think she is going to be one hell of an interesting character. This book kicks off great with what appears to be a death at a health spa. It's only when someone who Robyn Knows asks if its possible for her to look into the death of her late brothers partner, that it seems it may not have been just a heart attack that killed him. The only problem is Robyn would be stepping on toes of fellow officers if she was to investigate. But that doesn't put her off. It soon becomes apparent that maybe there was more to it. Robyn enlists the help of her cousin to do a little digging around for her. Robyn is certainly a bit of a workaholic, and doesn't let the grass grow under her feet, if she has a job to do then she does it. The plots are well thought out with twists and turns through out the book and this really does keep you turning the pages, It didn't take me long to get through this book. I'm enjoying Carols writing, and this one was a thoroughly good read. I will certainly be keeping an eye out for more in this series. I would have no problems recommending this book to any crime thriller fans. Many thanks to Carol Wyer, Bookouture and NetGalley, for the ARC.
Her breath rose and fell in fearful gasps but it was too late. She could already see what she dreaded most. The back seat was empty.
Her little girl was gone. Abigail lives the perfect life with her doting husband and adorable baby Izzy. But someone knows a secret about Abigail and they want the truth to be told. When Izzy is snatched from a carpark, it becomes a case for Detective Robyn Carter. Someone has been sending threatening messages to Abigail from an anonymous number. What is Abigail hiding? Robyn’s instincts tell her there’s a connection between Izzy’s abduction and two murders she is investigating. But the last time she acted on impulse her fiancé was killed. To break this case and earn her place back on the force, she must learn to trust herself again – and fast. Robyn is on the hunt for a ruthless serial killer. And unless she gets to the twisted individual in time a little girl will die …
Still playing catch up with my reading pile, so lucky for me I have book one and two that I can happily read back to back.
I've been looking forward to reading this book, and finally got it to the top of my TBR pile. I believe this is Carol's first book writing as a crime/thriller author. That alone needs applauding. It's a very well written book, interesting storyline and keeps you gripped throughout. DI Robyn Carter going back to work after the loss of her husband, but she hasn't been idling about at home, she has been helping her cousin with some PI work. Robyn is faced with a difficult and complex case, and it takes some figuring out to discover the who and whys with this story. You are kept interested and gripped throughout the story, it is very well put together and flows effortlessly. Everything in the story finally comes together. The amount of secrets that are revealed through this book is brilliantly done. I will be starting the next book shortly and look forward to reading more from this author. |
