Natasha Mayston wasn’t expecting anyone to knock on her door so late at night. And she has no idea that the face staring back at her is the last one she’ll ever see…
As Detective Dan Lockhart is called to a wealthy London street to investigate Natasha’s death, he’s startled by the similarity to a previous case. Noticing the cable-tie restraints and the tiny scratches on Natasha’s wedding finger, Dan already knows what he will find if he looks in her mouth – the metal ball which choked her to death. He knows Natasha isn’t the killer’s first victim and is certain that he will strike again.
Months earlier, Kim Hardy was found in the same position in a run-down hotel across the city – an identical silver ball in her throat. But Kim’s murderer was caught and sent to prison – did they arrest the wrong man? And what connects the two victims? Fearing that he’s dealing with a psychopathic serial killer, Dan calls in psychologist Dr Lexi Green to help him to get into the perpetrator’s mind. Tough and smart, Lexi will stop at nothing to hunt down the man responsible for the deaths.
Then, another body is discovered, just as Lexi finds a clue online leading to the killer. Dan’s team aren’t convinced, but in pushing Lexi away from the investigation, they force her to dig further into the case on her own. Convinced that she’s on to something, she puts herself in unthinkable danger… but can Dan piece together the clues and identify the killer before it’s too late?
Fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Cara Hunter will love this thrilling new series from Chris Merritt. From an explosive start to a heart-stopping finale, you will not want to put this book down!
I was thrilled when I saw this book. I have read some of this authors other work and got a little giddy when I noticed this was the start of a new series. I feel this introduction to Detective Dan Lockhart and Dr Green was brilliant. I love getting to know new characters. These are 2 characters I can really see building through futer books. I think they have a lot to offer us readers and I cant wait to see what Chris Merritt decideds for them.
I found that i needed to keep reading that I wanted to know the who, why etc. A few times I thought I had the answers, but clearly I didn't which was a great way of putting those twists in there, making you feel you know what s coming. You don't so you then have to continue.
It was interesting getting to know our new characters as I said, Dan Lockhart is a married man, but his wife went missing and he hasn't seen her since. This is always at the back of his mind when he's going about his work and everyday life, it will be interesting to see how that part of the story develops, i'm just hoping it's not something that is going to go on forever like another crime authors books.
I do feel this was certainly a well written book with a story to keep you hooked, and I really do look forward to what will come in future books.
Now is the time to treat yourself and order this book, start a new series and enjoy your reading.
Gemma is about to risk it all for the man she loves. Will she survive entering into a life of crime?
Gemma has always been there for Nathan. He's the love of her life and she made a commitment to him, one she'd never consider breaking... until smooth-talking gangster Alfie Watson comes into their lives and changes everything.
Alfie doesn't care about true love – he wants Gemma, and the gangster always gets what he wants. When Nathan ends up owing him money, Alfie gets payback by recruiting Gemma to carry out a jewellery heist. To everyone's surprise, she's a natural. Until Alfie forgives Nathan's debt, she has no choice but to accompany the gangster on more and more daring heists – even though one slip-up could cost her everything.
Nathan might have fallen under Alfie's spell, but it doesn't take long for him to realise that he needs to save Gemma from his own mistakes if their marriage is to have any chance of surviving. But when that means taking on the East End's most notorious gangster at his own game, will he find himself up to the challenge?
Perfect for fans of Kimberley Chambers, Emma Tallon and Jessie Keane.
A brilliant read. A new author for me but one I will be looking out for in the future. Gemma finds out her husband owes money to the towns Mr Nasty. No one in their right mind borrow money of Alfie Watson. Unfortunatly Nathan Gemma's husband didn't seem to have recieved that memo.
Once you owe Alfie Watson Money, that's it you belong to him and you pay back for as long as he decideds and in whatever way he sees fit. He's a nasty piece of work.
A brilliant gangland thriller that fan's of this genre will love. I can highly recommend it.
The Silent House by Nell Pattison #SilentHouse @AvonBooksUK @Writer_Nell #BlogTour #Part1 @SanjanaCunniah
If someone was in your house, you’d know … Wouldn’t you? But the Hunter family are deaf, and don’t hear a thing when a shocking crime takes place in the middle of the night. Instead, they wake up to their worst nightmare: the murder of their daughter.
The police call Paige Northwood to the scene to interpret for the witnesses. They’re in shock, but Paige senses the Hunters are hiding something.
One by one, people from Paige’s community start to fall under suspicion. But who would kill a little girl?
Was it an intruder?
Or was the murderer closer to home?
This mystery will keep you up all night – perfect for fans of The Silent Patient and Cara Hunter‘Sinister, layered, atmospheric … I couldn’t turn the pages quickly enough’ Debbie Howells
‘A nail-biting page-turner of a thriller … The sense of a community isolated, and all the conflicts and tensions that brings, adds satisfying layers of complexity’ James Oswald
‘Delicate, brutal, impossible to put down. The Silent House is a disquieting thriller’ Ross Armstrong
Well, well. What a good little book that turned out to be. I really wasn't sure what to expect from this book, a new author for me, a debut and the family featured are deaf. I couldn't wait to start.
I do think the author has managed to write this book very well, It was intriguing and interesting. It kept my interest the whole way through.
I can't imagine waking and knowing someone had been in your house. But for someone to get in and commit murder while you are sleeping, wow, that's scary. More so when there was never any chance of you hearing anything because you are deaf. It's reading things like this that really make you sit up and realise what an honour it is to be able to hear.
Paige Northwood is a British sign language interpreter, she is called in to help the Hunter family and the police. Paige is effectively the voice for deaf.
Paige does seem to get herself a little too close to the investigation, she needs reminding occasionally that she is there to help. Yet Paige is convinced the family are not telling her everything. Someone is keepng secrets, can Paige get the police to listen to her before she's kicked off for interfering.
The tension and mystery in this book is put together very well, I think because it seems unique with the characters being deaf, it really adds to the story it adds to the tension, it helps the story flow really well. It's brilliantly written considering it's a debut and I know i'll be looking out for more books by this author.
I not only wanted to keep reading, i needed to keep reading.

This is book eleven of the international best-selling books featuring Nikki Galena.
Well, well, well, book 11. I never thought when I first started to read these books that it would be so so addictive. I absolutely love this series. The author is a first class writer and knows just what us, her readers want. I have loved each and every book and I can't recommend them highly enough.
I will say to read them in order. Mainly because you will learn and grow with the characters. When I'm reading these books now it almost feels like a family reunion when I pick on up.
Nothing I say will get across just how much I love this series, and it's one I think everyone should read. Each time I finish one i'm counting down the time until the next one, and each time I think the author is going to stuggle to better that one, boom, she does it no problem. I could read about these characters daily, I'd love to see some sort of series with Nikki and Joseph in on tv, it would be addictive viewing.
Joy's writing makes you actually feel lke you are with these characters, you can sense where they are a picture yourself being there with them. they are descriptive enough to let you feel like you are part of the story.
I remember first being intoduced to Nikki, and then her having Joseph almost forced upon her, Nikki liked her own space, liked to work alone, I love how she has changed. She's still a no nonsence person but seems to tollerate people a little better.
I really don't know what else to say, I can't recommend this series highly enough, and I think once you start it you'll also be addicted.

THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE YOU SHOULD NEVER CROSS
In a life of crime, loyalty means everything – even if you don’t always see eye to eye. But when Vaughn Sadler speaks up to get Franny Doyle sent down, he’s broken every rule in the book to win checkmate.
AND OTHERS YOU SHOULDN’T UNDERESTIMATE…
Holed up in prison, Franny has more than one score to settle – but she’s starting with Vaughn. Because you don’t grass on your own, no matter what. And though she may be behind bars, she will get revenge – whatever the cost.
Before, there was just bad blood running through her veins. But now, there is poison…
This is the 4th book featuring Franny, Alfie and Vaughan.
I may have said this before, but by god I'm glad this author is back. I missed her books for far to long.
This lady can damn well write a page turner. Book you end up addicted to and cannot put them down until you finish. Then unfortunately you are left with a book hangover. My god I love this authors work.
We are back in the lives of Alfie Jenner, Franny Doyle and Vaughn Sadler, some of the underworlds ruthless criminals. They maybe criminals but after so many books you can't help but like them.
There are scores to settle, fights to be had, deals to be made or broken. This book has everything you would want from a gritty read.
These characters are so good to read about, they actually feel like you are back with old friends. I guess these books could be read as standalones, but I believe you'd get a better reading experience by reading them all in order. If you have never read these books start with the first one, my goodness you're in for a treat, It wouldn't surprise me if you end up reading them back to back.
I certainly couldn't live their lifestyle but I love reading about it.
Just fantastic, I'm really not sure what more I can say. A first class read as always from an author who knows what her readers want.
SHE WAS MADE IN THE EAST END . . .
For young Queenie, life in the backstreets of Whitechapel was a lesson in survival – Hitler’s bombs hit those with nothing the hardest. When danger strikes close to home, Queenie finds an ally in Mrs O’Leary, whose two sons are the kingpins of the East End. But while the O’Learys are the light in Queenie’s life, fate has a different path in store.
AND MEN ARE WHAT THEIR MOTHERS MAKE THEM . . .
Now married to the useless Albie Butler, Queenie is raising her children to fight their own battles. If the O’Learys taught her anything, it was that surviving meant doing whatever you had to, no questions asked, and family always comes first. The Butler boys will make sure their mother’s name becomes East End legend.
THIS IS HER STORY.
What can I say. I really was looking forward to this and when I received an ARC from the publishers I was thrilled. I started reading as soon as I got the chance, I was due to go in hospital for surgery on my foot so knew I'd have lots of time to read it and didn't need to rush. (who am I kidding)
I read a good chunk of this when I come around from the anaesthetic, and while waiting to be allowed home. When I got home later that night I picked the book up again, and I couldn't for the life in me remember what the heck I had read. lol
I thought saving some of it was a great idea to help to recovery but clearly I was wrong.
I purchased the kindle copy and decided I was going to start it again from the beginning, which is exactly what I did.
What a fantastic read. I have to admit, I was concerned at first with KC going back to the beginning and giving us an insight into Queenies life. I thought we knew all we needed to know through the Butler series. Wrong again!
I think this book ties off perfectly the series.
As it's a prequel I would say you could actually read it as the first book, but don't. It's really much better reading after you have read the series as answers some questions you didn't realise you had.
I'm guessing like me, everyone reading this will again want to go back and re read the Butler series, I expect all the series to fly up the charts all over again. This would also make a fantastic box ser.
As with all Kimberley's books this is a tough, gritty page turner. Unlike other authors in this genre, Kimberley's books haven't faded or lost their brilliance, Kimberley really does know what her readers want, and despite having a big fan base, she still delivers. Nothing is taken for granted. I think that's is why readers know they can trust going to her books again and again..
Queenie has had a varied life, She knew what she wanted and went for it. Her character is one you will never forget about once you have read about her. Once of the best characters in a book series I've known. She is one of those characters I think I could read about daily and still not get fed up with. Along with her sister Viv they really are a pair to be reckoned with.
Queenie is certainly the head of her family, reading about her earlier days has been an absolute honour.
For me, this is the BEST book yet. How on earth is KC going to top this one? I think the Barr had been set real high this time.
Certainly another addictive read you will struggle to put down, and SHOCK. OMG I wasn't expecting that!
I even decided I was reading it with my signed cover on. KC signed this at a book signing in Manchester around 3 years ago.

The truth can be a dangerous thing…
When a young boy falls from a balcony in a block of flats, DS Grace Allendale witnesses the shocking aftermath of the tragic event. But strangely, no one will admit to seeing anything – and the parents will only tell the police that it was an accident.
Determined to sort the truth from the lies, Grace is thrown into a case that takes her to the darkest corners of the criminal world – and strikes closer to home than she could have ever imagined…
A gripping and pacey thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from the moment you turn the first page. The perfect read for fans of Martina Cole.
When a young child is thrown from a balcony of the flats, DS Grace Allendale is sent to investigate. Life on most estates mean that the Police are not someone you talk to. No one will say if they saw anything and are saying it's an accident. It seems everyone feels this was no accident but they still wont talk.
Grace knows that people are telling lies, including the boys parents but she needs to figure out why and what actually happened. How can you keep quiet if someone has harmed your child.
As always this was a thrilling read from a very talented author. I've found each book in this series somehow gets better each time. This is one of those books you really don't want to end. Yet you can't stop reading which means the end comes around all to soon. Although I think if these books were thousands of pages I'd still think they were to short.
I've never yet felt let down by one of Mel's books and this one is as good as all her others. A great addition to a brilliant series.
I loved everything about this book and highly recommend.

I have to be honest I really don't know what I was expecting from this book. I knew I'd read other works by this author so thought I'd just give it a go, an open mind to start with.
The setting and the story line of this book was done brilliantly. It really helped with the great characters to draw you into those pages. It mad you want to continue to read no matter what else you needed to do, reading really takes over when you start this book, so if you've got plans, put them on hold if you intend to start this book.
Alice Teal, walked out of school one day and was never seen again. Why, where did she go?
It's down to the unlikely duo DI Lucas Black and DC Beth Winter to figure that out. This is now a case they need to work on, and things will certainly not be easy for them.
An interesting and addictive read that I can highly recommend.
She’s everything he dreamed of. Isn’t she?
Ben can’t believe his luck when the beautiful Bella walks into his life, just when he needs her most.
Still bruised and vulnerable since breaking-up with long-term girlfriend, Charlotte, he falls head over heels in love.
But Bella isn’t quite the ideal partner that Ben believes her to be. She quickly decides that everything is better when it is just the two of them – making it harder for friend and family to stay in touch. And then a sudden death triggers a chain of events that throws Ben headlong into a nightmare…
Secrets, lies, vengeance, and betrayal are at the heart of this story about a family that is destroyed when their son brings home the perfect girl…
Well, well, well. What a read this was. To be honest, I really don't know what I was expecting from this book. Something about it just shouted READ ME!
So as I always do at the voices in my head tell me. A fantastic plot and a twist I didn't see coming. This book left me thinking about it long after I'd finished it.
This is a phycological thriller that will have you hooked. There was many times I was shouting at or about characters as I was reading, (in my head) But they were at times winding me up and I had to tell them. lol
When Ben splits with his girlfriend, the wonderful, beautiful Bella steps right into his life. Just the right time? A coincidence? or something more.
Can life with just the two of them be as perfect as Bella is making out.
As I said, this book stayed in my mind long after i'd finished it. It was brilliantly written. I would certainly want to read more books by this author.
This book covers not just physical domestic abuce but the mental abuse also and it's done brilliantly. This book is filled with secrets and shows how dangerous secrets can be.
As always Caroline Mitchell has written another book that once you start, you can't stop. I love Carolines books, I don't think I haven't enjoyed one at all. This is certainly another page turner.
This is one of those books though that I find really difficult to review as it was so good. It's a great and unusual story line. One that drags you through the pages wanting and needing more.
Roz has found out she is pregnant. But how on earth can she bring up this child, she can't let the father know and she can't tell her best friend everything.
Roz decides that the best way forward is to have the baby given up for adoption.
This really was an addictive read. Roz is not only penniless but has also discovered she's skint and pregnant. Believing she has no options she sets about trying to find parents that could have her child, someone who could love, care and bring up her child. Roz believes that the best thing for her unborn child is for it to be brought up by someone else. Someone who is struggling to conceive and will love and make a superb parent, someone who can give her child everything it wants, needs and deserves. What unfolds though the story will certainly open your eyes, you will want to carry on reading and get lost in those pages.
When Roz thinks she has found a perfect couple she heads off on what she thinks is going to be an adventure of a lifetime to New York. What happens next really will blow your mind. I don't intend on giving anything away, I don't like spoilers but this book was just fantastic and I really can't recommend it enough.
