The second thrilling book in the London-set Dr Harry Kent series, the perfect mix of detective novel and medical drama.
Susan Bayliss became notorious when she blew the whistle on her boss, a heart surgeon at a renowned children's hospital. She accused him of negligence, operations were stopped and an inquiry launched. In the end she was the one suspended as a troublemaker. Now Dr Harry Kent, a medical examiner with the Met Police, has been called out to certify her suicide. But something about the scene is wrong. Someone held Susan down... The grieving parents of the children who died demand answers. The hospital is stonewalling. Everyone has secrets - it's up to Harry and DCI Frankie Noble to find out which were worth killing for.
This is the 2nd book to feature Dr Harry Kent and like the first book it gets my Must read, seal of approval.
I enjoyed this just as much as the first book, if not more. It was fantastic being back with Harry and his wreckage of a life. Harry is asked to attend a suicide of a whistleblowing doctor. But for Harry it soon seems that things are not so straight forward. Then when it turns out to be murder, Harry must dig deeper to uncover the truth. And dig is what Harry does, ending up teamed up with his ex girl friend DCI Frankie Noble. Things are not great between the two of them so working together certainly isn't going to be an easy ride. One of the things I really enjoy with these books is the mix of Medical and Crime, it makes for a much more interesting read. The authors medical background is very clear thought out the book, and just adds to the story brilliantly. I also find the fact that the main character Harry, having some serious issues really adds to the intensity of the story. You know somewhere along the line things have got to reach a head, and his addiction to prescription drugs is only going to cause problems if and when he is found out. Another first class read, and I fear if I say anymore I will give far to much away. This book however is certainly must read, and I will say personally I really think reading book one first would be the best move. I cant wait for more.

She Loves Me A woman's body lies in the road. At first it looks like a tragic accident. But when Helen Grace arrives on the scene it's clear she's looking at a coldblooded killing. But why would anyone target a much loved wife and mother? She Loves Me Not Across town, a shopkeeper is killed while his customers are left unharmed. But what lies behind the killer's choices? She Loves Me Who lives? Who dies? Who's next? The clock is ticking. She Loves Me Not If Helen can't solve this deadly puzzle then more blood will be shed. But any mistake and it might be her own ... Well the start of this book would certainly make me think twice about stopping to help someone in trouble. Should you? Shouldn’t you? Here we are back with the superb Helen Grace. Book 7, I recently had a big catch up with this series, and I have to say it’s one of the best book series I’ve read. I have enjoyed each and every single book, and just when you think they can’t get any better, out pops another Jaw dropper. If you have not caught up with this series yet, and have not read the last book yet, then please don’t continue with reading this review as it could spoil things for you. We kick off with action and this action continues the whole way through this books, I certainly enjoyed reading it. The start of the book sees Sonia, a probation office on her way to work, where she is flagged down by someone who looks to have been involved in an accident. Only to end up being killed. Helen Grace is also on her way to work, riding her new bike, a Kawasaki Ninja, which she has bought after receiving a hefty compensation pay out for wrongly being arrested and then sent to prison last year. She gave the rest of her compensation money to a local children’s charity – this just made me like Helen even more. So as I was saying on her way to work Helen notices someone lying in the road and pulls to a stop to help the lady, it’s clear as soon as Helen see’s her, this hasn’t been just a road accident, the lady has been shot, but there is no sign of a car. The only one Helen saw is the one that nearly knocked her off her bike earlier up the road. Shortly after this, it appears there is an incident at a pharmacists, could this be linked, is the death toll about to rise? Can Helen and her team connect the dots and figure out who the killer or killers are and what their motive for killing is before it’s to late? This book takes place over a 24 hour period. OH WHAT A DAY! What a story. This for me has got to be one of M.J. Arlidge best books yet. It’s gripping, fast, frenzied, breath taking, thrilling it’s one hell of a read with a good few OMG moments, I was hooked from the beginning right up to the last page. It’s exciting and scary at the same time, my god I need a week’s holiday after reading that. Two sisters. One murder. And an unbreakable bond. Growing up in squalor with their drug-addicted prostitute mother, sisters Georgie and Marnie Parker have had to endure the very darkest side of life. When their mother is sentenced for brutally murdering a client, Georgie and Marnie’s already precarious lives are blown apart and they now share a terrible secret. Sent to a children’s home, the sisters hope this might finally be their safe haven after years of neglect. But they soon discover they’re in real danger. Desperate to find a place of safety, Georgie and Marnie run for their lives, but end up in the hands of Delray Anderton. A violent London gangster and notorious pimp, Delray has big plans for beautiful teenager Georgie, seeing her as a chance to make some serious money. Fiercely protective of each other, Georgie and Marnie must escape the clutches of a man who will do anything to keep the sisters for himself. And, they must keep the promise they made to each other – no one can ever know the truth. A gritty, shocking and gripping thriller that will engross fans of Kimberly Chambers, Martina Cole and Jessie Keane. I feel I should start of by saying, just in case you didn't know. But Casey can write one hell of a book. I have loved each and every one of Casey Kelleher’s books. And this one was no different. Fast becoming a favourite author of many readers. Casey for me has become one of those authors whose name you recognise, and don't even need to read the synopsis to know that you are going to read the book no matter what. I started this book and flew through it, I really couldn't and didn't want to put it down. Set in Brixton we are introduce to Josie Parker, she isn’t exactly mother of the year material that’s for sure, and as much as the way she treated her children got right up my nose, there was just a little something about her that I liked. I wanted her all the way through to sort her head out, look after her children. A good old slap would have helped, but like I said there was just something that drew me to her character. She’s sold her body, abused it with drugs, and not exactly taken good care of her two girls, Georgie and Marnie. These kids I wanted to cuddle them, bath them, feed them love them. My god I really did get involved with these characters. I wasn’t sure what to expect to start with and wasn’t sure which way the book was going to go. Buy by god Casey can write. There are some great and some down right evil characters throughout the book, some you love, and some you certainly hate with passion. I have to say though the character of Javine got up my nose a lot to start with, yet turned out to be a character I really liked. I was rooting for her. And as for Delray Anderton, well..... He just irritated me, he got my back up, he ohhhhh my word he wound me up so much. I always think if an author can write a book that has you wound up, with so many mixed feeling and emotions throughout then by god they have done their work good, and that is certainly what Casey has done here. This book certainly has that feel about it that you could actually be there side by side with some of the characters; you really are drawn into the story and their lives. It leaves you with your heart racing and needing to read on. Forget normal life, you can’t have one while reading this book. You need to be locked away somewhere on your own and fly through it, because once you put it down you can’t wait to pick it up and carry on with the story. If you want something the literally has you on the edge of your seat with your eyes popping out of your head, then this really is the book for you. Fantastic read and well worth all the 5 stars I’m giving it. Well done Casey. I can’t wait for your next book. Read what everyone is saying about The Promise:

Well Well, where the hell do I start with this.
Firstly a super Huge thank you to Harper Collins. I was so thrilled when I was asked if I would be interested in receiving an early copy of this book. My hands were actually shaking as I responded to the message. It was an honour to be asked and a bigger honour to read this book early. I was also thrilled, to the point of shaking and laughing, (If I'd been feeling a little better I would have had a dance round the living room) when I also won a signed copy of this book on Kimberley's live Facebook chat. I was the first one to answer the question of naming Albie and Queenies kids. A- Michael, Vinny, Roy and Brenda. My god I was Buzzing... By god, Kimberley certainly knows how to write a book. Sometimes I think we should worry about what goes on in the minds of these authors. This book is twisted. An Explosive ReadThis book is so worth more than the 5 stars given. You just didn't know which way things were going, what was going to happen next. Who was safe. I so wanted to take my time reading it, I was determined to take it slowly, read a few pages at a time and not rush through it. I managed that in a way. I'd read a few pages, go get a drink read a few more.. and so on, It's not a book you can put down. It's not a book you can ignore once you start it. I had so many questions and theories as to where Kimberley could have gone with this book, and slowly, slowly things started to happen, and questions were answered. I was going to re re read the previous books, lol. ( I have read them all twice anyway) But I didn't get around to it, but it doesn't take long to remember who is who and what went on between them as Kimberley manages to jog your memory of things as you are reading. It's very clever the way it's been put together to help you remember who is who, and what has happened previously, without it feeling like its just being repetitive. It's one hell of a crazy arse read. There is so much going on in this book. Brilliantly written, and put together. The Butlers and back, and in this book they are joined with the Mitchell family. Vinny Butter and Eddie Mitchell, both men you wouldn't want to upset. Both men have seriously crazy families. But men you can't help but like. I really do like Eddie, and in a weird way I like Vinny. Going into business together, it's not long before they start to receive mystery packages, these packages contain dead creatures. Someone somewhere is trying to send out a message, but who, and Why? When you have such a shady past, all you can do is wonder and surmise. Is going into business together going to prove to be the best move these two villains could have made, or the worst decision of their lives. All the crazy bunch are back, Queenie, Little Vinny, Michael. Along with the rest of the family. Some have sorted their lives out and tried to do well for themselves. Yet others are just as mad as before and will never change. We have certainly seen some seriously colourful characters throughout this series of books. There are many characters, some of which you have probably forgotten about, but it doesn't take you to long to remember them. I don't want to say to much about what does go on in this book, as it would spoil it for others, and certainly anyone who is not up to date with the series. Because I'm finding myself wanting to say, Oh my god and what about.... and then..... and to be honest that just wouldn't be fair on anyone who has not read the book yet. But please if you are going to read this book do yourself one big favour and read all the others before it. If you can I would recommend you also read the Mitchell books, but that really is a personal choice it's not hugely necessary. The book I won on Kimberley's facebook live. |
