Her dark skin looks almost grey; the effect of the elements and death’s touch. Her limp body left pressed against a wire fence like trash. I make a silent promise that I will do everything I can to catch the person who did this to her…
Exactly a year ago, Amy, a young detective on Detective Kate Matthews’ team, was killed when she was sent undercover to catch a serial killer targeting young girls. Kate never forgave herself for letting the killer slip through her fingers… As the case is reopened and the campaign to find the culprit begins again, Kate is told to stay well away, and for good reason: another girl’s body has been found. Kate is determined to connect new evidence to the old to catch this monster before more innocent lives are taken. The trail runs cold when her prime suspect is found dead. But then why is the body count still rising? The answer is more terrible than Kate could possibly have imagined, and the killer so much closer than she thinks… An absolutely heart-stopping crime thriller that will have you sleeping with the lights on. Perfect for fans of Robert Dugoni, James Patterson and MJ Arlidge.
It's great being back with Detective Kate Matthews, in this, the second book in the series.
I really enjoyed book one, so was eager to get started with book 2. It's great having another series to follow as I love a good detective series. Kate is a great character, flaws, problems, ruthless but doesn't give in, if she wants to do something she doesn't always listen to others opinions first. I can see this becoming one hell of a great series. But I think Kate needs to start thinking of others around her and what she is doing to them. Kate feels responsible for the death of a fellow officer last year. She is determined to try and put things right in where she feels she failed her. Even though she's kicked off the case, she can't help but get involved. She's certainly determined I'll say that much. But why won't people take her seriously, if only they would listen to her, then she wouldn't have to go behind the bosses back. A very well written and well put together book, it will certainly grip you, and it's easy one of those books that you just need to finish this page, then just need to finish the chapter, before you know you're half way through the book. This book had a great start and ended just brilliantly. I need more and I want it now. lol.

Book 1 of 2 in Pereira & Bain (2 Book Series)
Revenge is a dish best served ... sliced.
The new cold meat option in the sandwich shop isn't chicken, and it isn't pork. It's Kevin Moyes, missing for two weeks, now presumed dead. The Serious Crime Unit are notified, and the hunt for the macabre butcher takes detectives Aliya Pereira and Marc Bain to the meat-processing factory where the human flesh entered the food chain. They are followed by a media frenzy, with Pereira's boss demanding immediate results. But while the factory is clean and no one is talking, some of the players have gone missing, people are still dying, and the butcher's work is not yet done. Cold Cuts introduces DI Pereira and DS Bain, Glasgow detectives on the trail of a killer through a sordid underworld of deceit, vengeance and murder. Tartan Noir never tasted so delicious.
Investigating a case of how human meat has gotten into the food chain, are Detectives Aliya Pereira and Marc Bain. Kevin Moyes has been missing 2 week when he turns up on someones pork sandwich. Nice!
The book has mystery and gore but no more than any other book i've read, the human meat side of it although it made me go yuck and not want to get a sandwich from anywhere doesn't put you off reading the book. It felt like something was missing to me, (and I don't mean salad cream with the sandwich) maybe it was just a little to short, maybe a few more chapters could of ironed out the story a little so it felt less rushed. It was an interesting read, I liked the idea behind how things were found and traced and how we got to the conclusion. I'm going to say it was to short, as I can't say I hated the book, but I cant say I thoroughly enjoyed it. it's a down the middle 3/5 from me. I have noticed that there is now a book 2, and i'm intrigued as to how that one will be that I probably will purchase it to find out.

As soon as I saw this was available on Netgalley I requested it. I couldn't wait to start this. I have read all of Joy Ellis' books so far, and have not been disappointed by any of them. It's fantastic to add another author to my MUS READ list. This also means that as soon as I saw it and requested it, I hadn't even read what it was about, and find it's a bit of a lucky dip when starting the book as I don't have a clue what it's going to be about. I did however know the main characters from the 2 previous books, and i'm certainly growing to like them more and more. Another book full of twists and turns that will keep you entertained the whole way through. I really do look forward to reading more from this author. I'm not sure if Joy Ellis has a back log of books to produce or if she is just one hell of a writing machine the books seem to be coming thick and fast, so what ever it is you do Joy, Please carry on doing it.

This was one of those books that once started you really want to know what is coming next, and second guessing what is happening can't be helped. As usual I got it wrong. A very interesting read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Once or twice i did find myself back tracking and forgetting who was who, but I think that's just my dumb head at the moment.
When 8 year old Grace goes missing her mother Emma has her life thrown into turmoil. Every parents worst nightmare and she has to live it. We go through the agony of a family in limbo of not knowing what has happened to their precious little girl. We also meet Maggie Taylor, who show's a keen interest in the disappearance of Grace as many many years ago she went through something similar with her granddaughter going missing. Could Maggie find similarities between the two cases or is it just her age and mind playing tricks on her. I have to say for me through this book I loved Maggie and the relationship she had with her old pal Jim. It was a lovely part to a very disturbing story. Very well written and worth reading. Gripping, thought provoking and thouroghly enjoyable.
The discovery of a severed head in a golf course bunker triggers a frantic race to find a serial killer that brings the town of Burnham-on-Sea to a standstill.
A connection is made with a series of unsolved murders harking back to the 1970s, and Detective Inspector Nick Dixon finds himself caught in a race against time that takes him the length and breadth of the country. The brutal killing of an elderly man raises the stakes and, as he closes in, Dixon begins to question whether he is chasing one serial killer or two. Head in the Sand is the second novel in the highly acclaimed DI Nick Dixon Crime Series.
Book 2 in the Di Nick Dixon Crime Series. I'm pretty new to this series, having only read book one and two so, but I consider myself quite lucky as I can dive into the rest of the series so far at my leisure. No hanging around waiting for the next one.
I've enjoyed this book, I'm slowly getting to know characters and making my mind up of what I think of them. A head is found in the sand at a golf course. It's down to the team to figure out the who, why and how. And it's done very well. When the case seems to be linked to a case decades before the story really gets going and makes you think. Very well written and thoroughly enjoyable. Gorey but not to over done. A crime thriller to keep you guessing, and will keep you turning the pages.
They thought they were safe. They were wrong.

Another book by Angela Marsons that so deserves more than 5 stars. Again an exception read, with twists and a nail biting story line.
I just can't believe we are at book 7. I have loved each and everyone of these books, and I think any crime thriller fan will love the series. I always say this is a personal opinion but I think the books are so much better read in order. So just think now, you have not read any of these. You now have the chance to read 7 awesome books back to back. I sometime wish I could erase a good series from my head, so that I could start again and read them all back to back. So anyways,... Book 7 and Kim and her team a faced with more gruesomeness. This story starts off with an abandoned baby outside the police station which of course it's Kim her very non maternal self that finds the baby. This soon turns into a hunt for finding the child's mother. Along side this we have murdered prostitutes. And Kim and her team as usual are working flat out. I really don't know how Angela does it, but yet again this book is my favourite to date. Each book somehow out does the last one. I didn't think this series could get any better but it certainly does. I for one can not wait to read more. and more, and more. I love the character that is Kim Stone, she's just been written perfectly. I have to say this book felt more like getting to know the whole team better. A brilliant set of characters put together. Angela Marsons has now become of those authors whose books you don't need to read the blub, you know you want to read it because of the author. This book certainly deserves more than the given 5 stars. This book certainly hit's the ground running and doesn't stop. What? OMG? NO? just a few of the words falling out my mouth while reading it. I can't praise this book or this author enough. Nail biting, thrilling, twisty, and a damn good read to boot. #2017MustREad

I'm currently going through the books on my kindle, and reading one of the books that has been on kindle the longest and one that is a recent purchase. I found this one as one that i'd had since 2014 and not gotten around to reading yet. I have a lot I haven't yet read, but i'm doing good and slowly getting through them.
This little Gem must have pushed itself up the line for a reason, it really did want me to read it. A great read with a thrilling story line, written to keep you turning the pages, and it certainly does. I read this book in just over a day. I was a little gutted to realise this was actually book 9 in a series, I like to read series from book 1, but I didn't realise until i'd finished it. |
