Like A Streetcat Named Bob before it, Finding Gobi is a truly heart-warming story for animal lovers worldwide…
In 2016, Dion Leonard, a seasoned ultramarathon runner, unexpectedly stumbled across a little stray dog while competing in a gruelling 155 mile race across the Gobi Desert. The lovable pup, who earned the name ‘Gobi’, proved that what she lacked in size, she more than made up for in heart, as she went step for step with Dion over the treacherous Tian Shan Mountains, managing to keep pace with him for nearly 80 miles. As Dion witnessed the incredible determination of this small animal, he felt something change within himself. In the past he had always focused on winning and being the best, but his goal now was simply to make sure that his new friend was safe, nourished and hydrated. Although Dion did not finish first, he felt he had won something far greater and promised to bring Gobi back to the UK for good to become a new addition to his family. This was the start of a journey neither of them would ever forget with a roller coaster ride of drama, grief, heartbreak, joy and love that changed their lives forever. Finding Gobi is the ultimate story of hope, of resilience and of friendship, proving once again, that dogs really are ‘man’s best friend.
One of those books animal lovers across the world will love. Having seen an interview regarding this on TV, I knew i'd want to read the book. There is also social media pages on this amazing Journey of man meets dog.
The book is about a ultra marathon runner and a stray dog he finds on his way. In June 2016 Dion Leonard - Extreme Runner and a little stray dog, female approximate age 18mths to 3 years, (later named Gobi) paths crossed during a 6 stage/7 day 250km ultra marathon across the Chinese Gobi Desert where their lives would change forever. And this is what the book is about, a great journey to follow and a really interesting read.

Book Info I Know a Secret(Rizzoli & Isles 12)by Tess Gerritsen Random House UK, Transworld Publishers Bantam Press General Fiction (Adult) , Mystery & Thrillers Pub Date 10 Aug 2017
I can't believe this is book 12, It feels like forever ago since I last read a Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles book.
It was great getting to meet up with them again, like being back with old friends. I have followed this series of book right from the beginning and thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of them. This one was no exception. Detective Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles are faced with a pretty gruesome crime scene. It's going to be a toughie but with these two on the case it shouldn't be to much of a problem. However the cause of death of the woman found isn't as clear cut as they would like. It seems there could be links to a crime that was committed many years ago. The problem is, people have kept secrets for a very long time, and some are not willing to give up their secrets just yet. A brilliant yet gruesome read, will have you hooked from early on. Any Rizzoli and Isles fan will love this latest addition to the series. I certainly enjoyed it.
Biography
Best selling author Tess Gerritsen is also a physician, and she brings to her novels her first-hand knowledge of emergency and autopsy rooms. But her interests span far more than medical topics. As an anthropology student at Stanford University, she catalogued centuries-old human remains, and she continues to travel the world driven by her fascination with ancient cultures and bizarre natural phenomena. She started off her writing career with romance novels, now published by Mira. But in 1996 she switched to writing thrillers with her novel HARVEST, inspired by the anger she felt about the illegal trade in human organs. It was her first New York Times bestseller. Since then she has become an internationally bestselling author of crime novels, and her thriller series starring Boston detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles is the basis for the hit television series "Rizzoli & isles." She lives with her husband in Maine. For more information on Tess Gerritsen and her novels, visit her website: www.tessgerritsen.co.uk.

3.5*
When I first started this book, I knew I had read it before, yet once I got into it, I then thought maybe I hadn't. So I think at some stage I had previously started it, then not carried on, Why I don't know. But trying to get through some of the books I've had for far to long on my kindle, I carried on reading determined to get through that list. Yeah Right. Thanks to Netgalley and the Publishers for an Arc of this eBook. This is an interesting read, Silent is the Forest is the first in a series of novels about Detective Judith Krieger. When a badly decomposed body is discovered in a forest, Judith Krieger, a police detective from Cologne, is assigned to the case. Struggling with things from her past, this is Judith's last chance to redeem herself. But can Judith move on, can she show that she is still the detective everyone looked up to. As I said this was an interesting read, I just felt in parts it was a little slow, but still enjoyable. I would read more from this author.
Every time you appear on screen someone will die…
That's the stark warning issued to Jessica Lee, the undisputed 'Queen of Trash TV.' She's the host of a confessional talk show on network television with millions of fans. But the popular reality TV programme – which aims to name, shame and ultimately humiliate abusive family members – has also made her a fair few enemies. Attractive, assured, ambitious and razor sharp, Jessica suddenly receives a chilling threat pressuring her to scrap the program and stop appearing on TV all together. Proof that this is no idle threat, the first victim, a young woman, is found dead with her throat cut. Jessica and her bosses face an agonising choice – take the programme off the air or risk more murders. They decide to defy the killer, for fear of setting a dangerous precedent, but there are dire consequences. Charged with trying to stop the carnage is DCI Sam Quinn who has been seconded to the Met’s ‘Celebrity Crime Squad’. Quinn is particularly qualified following the murder of his own actress wife Karen 16 months earlier, a tragedy which propelled him towards gambling and eventually into the clutches of local gangster Baz Carter, when his debts mounted up. But how low is the Network prepared to go to protect their ratings and is there any remorse at the price innocent victims have to pay? How does the killer select his victims in his bid to make Jessica suffer – and what ultimately is to be her fate? Can DCI Quinn get Carter’s goons off his back long enough to follow the crimson tide to its seemingly inevitable conclusion? Stark Warning is an icily precise thriller that chills and delights in equal measure as it lays bare some of the realities behind reality TV and the all-too-human frailties that beset even the strongest among us.
I had Stark warning and The Depraved to read for a while, when I checked my amazon orders it appears that I got Stark Warning back in 2013, wow... it was well due to be read, #BadMe.
I have this real bad habit of buying books and not getting around to reading them. But i'm trying to correct that and slowly slowly getting though my books. DCI Sam Quinn who has been seconded to the Met’s ‘Celebrity Crime Squad’. a bit of a reckless officer full of flaws, likeable and realistic. Throughout the book I really wanted him to sort himself out. I really took to him. Jessica Lee is the Queen of day time trashy TV, the female Jeremy Kyle. Jessica starts to receive threats that if she doesn't stop going on TV then the mystery person is going to start killing people. Is this a hoax, an idle threat. It's down to Sam Quinn to sort the mess out, but with his own life in such a mess, things could prove to be a little bit to much for him at times. The clock is ticking, can Sam work the case to the best of his ability? A great realistic real, full of suspense that really helps you to keep those pages turning. I read this in just over a day, pretty good going for me. I needed and wanted to know the who, where, why? Baby Doll - Hollie Overton.
Read the novel that kept Tess Gerritsen transfixed and entertained until the very last page
You’ve been held captive in one room. You’ve been mentally and physically abused every day since you were sixteen years old. Then, one night, you realise your captor has left the door to your cell unlocked. For the first time in eight years you’re free. This is what happens next.
I really wasn't sure what to expect from this book. It threw me at the beginning when It started with a young girl who had been held captive for 8 years in one room. I kind of thought it might have built up to this towards the end, but it was brilliantly done, and helps captivate you from the word go.
The book starts with her finally escaping, finally getting out of the hell she has been in over an 8 year period. She realises one day that her captor has made a mistake, and she knows he doesn't do this, is it a trap? Either way she is forced to try, to give it her all, to finally get out of this place. After being mentally and physically abused every day since you were sixteen years old. Now 8 years later and you are out of that one room. What does life hold in store for you? How much has changed in those 8 years? Life will never be as it once was, and the story takes you on a journey, a journey of survival. How things have changed, not just with you as a person but with your whole family. Now it's time to deal with the aftermath of what has happened with you. This book was a great read, Interesting and thought provoking. It really did make me think, not just about the story but how it would have changed you as a person, changed your family. Them not knowing where you had gone, what had happened. When something like this happens it doesn't just change the one person who went missing, it changes whole lives. Brilliantly written and put together. I look forward to hopefully reading many more books by Hollie Overton. |
