This is the second of these books we now own, A world of Discovery is amazing, just like the first book we got, A World of Information this book has proved so helpful. These are the sort of books that my daughter now goes to when there are facts about things she wants to know. When they are covering topics at school, these books go to school or help with homework. It's great to see now in a world of online 'everything, that children will still get a book to learn facts or information.
This book A world of Discovery is a beautiful large hardback book, filled with facts, that looks good and will certainly stand the test of time. Made to a very high standard, the quality is first class. I think a lot of children struggle to connect with books now, so something like this would interest even a reluctant reader, it can be read from cover to cover, glanced at or even just used to learn facts and information. This book is not only for children, as a family we have all enjoyed sitting down with it, reading and learning things we didn't know. A great source of facts and information for any age range. Just some of the topics covered include space travel The human body Time The computer DNA Aviation Radio and many many more interesting topics. Another day. Another mood. Meet Judy Moody at her moodiest-best, in this laugh-a-minute first adventure in the international bestselling series.
Bad moods, good moods, even back-to-school moods – Judy has them all! Meet Judy Moody, her little "bother" Stink, her best friend Rocky and her "pest" friend Frank Pearl. Judy has a mood for every occasion, but when a new teacher gives the class a "Me" collage project, Judy has so much fun that she nearly forgets to be moody at all! My Daughter was thrilled when she received this book via Walker books, for us to read and review at our leisure.
So what did we think of this, the first book in the Judy Moody series. Well it's safe to day my 8 yr old daughter really enjoyed it. Once she got started there was no stopping her and she had it finished in just a few days. She enjoyed it so much that she asked me to buy her the second book for her kindle which I did. She then decided the paperback like the first book would be better as this one come with stickers inside. One of the stickers was of the book cover and she couldn't wait to stick it into her school reading journal where we write the titles of books she's read. She thought that was just brilliant.
The story itself was enjoyable, she enjoyed reading it and thought the story was fun and easy to follow. Anything that gets children reading is a winner in my eyes. Ellie enjoyed this that much that once finished she really had to pass the book on to her cousin for her to read so they could then talk about it. So one book has gotten two kids reading. We received this book via Walker books, thank you so much for sending it to us, and Ellie is looking forward to reading more in this series. She has read book 2 right after book one, and now has book 3 to start.
Seeing Delia without her sunglasses on is a BIG shock for Tom, but that's nothing compared with the surprise that Dad has in store with his new-found fitness regime! He says he's going to compete at the school Sports Day. Can you even imagine the horrendous shame that will bring? Meanwhile Tom, Derek and Norman are also busy with a training regime of their own - practising with Dogzombies to make sure they're ready for the school talent show. The highs and lows of Tom's life are funnier and more extreme than ever in this fourth wicked diary from the Roald Dahl Funny Prize winning series!
What a superb book. Ideal for reluctant readers, these books should encourage any child to read. They are written with text and images which makes the books so much more fun. Some pages only have a small amount of text on them, so they don't become overwhelming.
My daughter had this book given her by her cousin, she put it on the book shelf and forgot about it. Until we were looking for something for her to read on evening. Once she got herself past the thickness of the book and started to read it, she loved it. Ellie is currently 8 years old, and this is the first book (other than her school books) that she has read from cover to cover on her own. She's been reading some each night, and it's taken her just under 2 weeks to read it. What I really loved was when we went shopping she asked if she could have a treat and get another one of these books. I was thrilled that she wanted to read more of them. Any books that can get a child's attention and keep it, gets a thumbs up from me. Ellie's words on the book. Mum it was awesome, it was so funny. This certainly gets 5 stars from us. This really is a fabulous set. Clipboard and papers, with lots of activities to do. We absolutely loved this, we got on our wellies and headed out to the local woods. Armed with the clipboard, it's contents, we also took some crayons, pencils and some extra paper, a couple of small food bags for collecting our treasures in. We started off looking for leaves, and collecting some of the better ones, to make a leaf collage the day after. We did bark rubbing and leaf rubbing which is something my little on hadn't done before so that was great fun. We were out for around 3 hours and clocked up just over 4 miles walking. So not only were we having fun and interacting with each other, we were exercising too. The set is very well presented, and has a great variety of activities. you have sheets for recording the wildlife that you see, an activity sheet for drawing a map of your exploration. Bark and leaf rubbing sheets, and a whole host of other activities or ideas. You get a guide of pictures of animals, and leaves, bugs and trees to help you identify what you have seen. This also comes with a book full of nature activities, things to make and explore, from making a butterfly feeder, a bird feeder, a wormery, moth magnets. It's full of great fun exciting activities. I really do recommend this. We've been out twice with the clipboard and really enjoyed ourselves. Now the warmer weather is coming we are going to start doing more of the activities in the book. It's a great for getting your young children learning about and talking about nature while having fun. The minute this book was delivered, Ellie couldn't wait to read it. I'd explained the book to her and asked if she would be interested in it. YES YES YES was her reply.
Ellie is currently learning about fossilization and rocks in school, so she was eager to check out this book. I do think the fact that it's what she is currently learning about at school helped with her interest in this book. While this book starts off with poetry for the first half, Ellie managed to read it all (age 8) I would say younger children may struggle, but with an adult would be fine. I would say aged 8 upwards for this book. There were parts of the poetry that I used the images to try help Ellie understand what it meant. Ellie is quite a good reader for her age, so she did very well well with the book. She was fascinated with the way the book was done. She loved the parts towards the back of the book that explained about Earth, Minerals, Rocks, Fossils, Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Atmospheric and surface water, Glaciers and Groundwater. There is a page dedicated to each topic. This book has been to school 3 days this week, where the teacher has read it out to class, so not only did we benefit from this book, her whole school class did to. The book is brilliantly put together, a sturdy hardback which will survive the many times its being used. Great illustrations. Our thanks go to Walker books for sending us a copy of this book. Firstly we would like to say a great big thank you to Walker books for sending us a copy of this book. As usual Ellie couldn't wait to open the package to see what was inside, and as a huge Harry Potter fan, she really was over the moon when she opened it.
Ellie loved it and couldn't wait to try it, so we had to close the black out blinds and she was off, we found using the Torch on my mobile phone the best, she was thrilled with the outcome, she spend a couple of nights finding the darkest spots in the house to use this. She really did love it. But then she is pretty bonkers on HP. She then had to show any visitors we had what it did, but after that it got put on the book shelf, so a few days fun then put away. I've no doubt it will come out again in the future, but for now its asleep in bookshelf world. For me it was more oh that's good, and that's it. It's well made, a hardback book. and as well as the projections in the book, there is a blank on for you to draw your own on. I'd say it's great for any young HP fan, and something they can go back to time and time again. It is fun, and little minds can make up some great stories from the images, or read the script under each image. Personally I think it's a little pricey for what it is, but as I said great for little Potter fans. Using illustrated cut-out screens, this enchanting book allows fans to project their favourite scenes from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them films at home with a torch. Read along and play the part of Dobby, stroke Buckbeak the Hippogriff's feathers or chase after an escaped Niffler with this one-of-a-kind tour through the extraordinary moments from the films of J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World. walker.co.uk | Youtube | Facebook | Twitter | Pinterest | This was my little ones school book read. She's 6. And she really enjoyed it. Read over 3 nights, this is the first book that is an actual chapter book that she's read. And at first she found it a little daunting, but once she got into it she read it with ease. It's funny, my 6yr old self would have really enjoyed this book, and as it's as old as I am, I probably read it way back then. She kept saying its like Harry Potter, Mummy. So I guess I can now see the reasoning behind the comments of an early Harry Potter style book. It's really a timeless story, featuring Mildred Hubble, who goes to Miss Cackle's Academy, Mildred is real fun as she always seems to be the one who things go wrong for. It really was an enjoyable read. And one we would probably read again one day. Ellie says this can have 5 gold stars. What a lovely book.
A book for opening up a child's imagination. The images throughout this book are just beautiful. Myself and my 6 yr old talked a lot about the pictures and reading, and what your imagination can make up while reading this book. It really got us talking about it. A 30 page book, Hardback, it looks stunning. A big thank you to Walker books for sending us a copy of this book. My little one got so excited receiving a parcel and knowing it was new books. Many thanks to Walker books for this ARC. Another hit with my 6 yr old.
Although once at the end she said Mummy that was to quick. We sat snuggled up on the couch with this book while she read it to me. She flew through the pages with ease, and commented all the way through on the pictures in the book. A book that highlights how Baby takes over the home. A fun book, which I think many kids will really enjoy. We have read it around 4 times, so we are almost at the point of knowing what is said on the next page. Firstly Thank you so much for making my little girl very happy and sending us an ARC of this book.
What a beautiful book. It looks beautiful before you even open it. I think this book would make an ideal gift, especially if you have a growing family as it shows it doesn't matter how many of you there are you are all loved individually. This book shows how mummy and daddy bear love all their bears. It's reassuring anyone who has insecurities. We had this book as a bed time read, and my little one insisted on reading it to me. I love hearing her read, and listening to the comments she makes while reading and explaining the pictures. This is a hard, board book so can be used and used over and over again. And I do believe it is the sort of story you can read over again and still enjoy it. |
