Covering more than 30 diverse and fascinating topics, this is the perfect book for the whole family to enjoy. This is the second of these books we now own, A world of Discovery is amazing, just like the first book we got, A World of Information this book has proved so helpful. These are the sort of books that my daughter now goes to when there are facts about things she wants to know. When they are covering topics at school, these books go to school or help with homework. It's great to see now in a world of online 'everything, that children will still get a book to learn facts or information.
This book A world of Discovery is a beautiful large hardback book, filled with facts, that looks good and will certainly stand the test of time. Made to a very high standard, the quality is first class. I think a lot of children struggle to connect with books now, so something like this would interest even a reluctant reader, it can be read from cover to cover, glanced at or even just used to learn facts and information. This book is not only for children, as a family we have all enjoyed sitting down with it, reading and learning things we didn't know. A great source of facts and information for any age range. Just some of the topics covered include space travel The human body Time The computer DNA Aviation Radio and many many more interesting topics. A very well put together book, with amazing facts and information. Great for all ages.

Seeing Delia without her sunglasses on is a BIG shock for Tom, but that's nothing compared with the surprise that Dad has in store with his new-found fitness regime! He says he's going to compete at the school Sports Day. Can you even imagine the horrendous shame that will bring? Meanwhile Tom, Derek and Norman are also busy with a training regime of their own - practising with Dogzombies to make sure they're ready for the school talent show. The highs and lows of Tom's life are funnier and more extreme than ever in this fourth wicked diary from the Roald Dahl Funny Prize winning series!
What a superb book. Ideal for reluctant readers, these books should encourage any child to read. They are written with text and images which makes the books so much more fun. Some pages only have a small amount of text on them, so they don't become overwhelming.
My daughter had this book given her by her cousin, she put it on the book shelf and forgot about it. Until we were looking for something for her to read on evening. Once she got herself past the thickness of the book and started to read it, she loved it. Ellie is currently 8 years old, and this is the first book (other than her school books) that she has read from cover to cover on her own. She's been reading some each night, and it's taken her just under 2 weeks to read it. What I really loved was when we went shopping she asked if she could have a treat and get another one of these books. I was thrilled that she wanted to read more of them. Any books that can get a child's attention and keep it, gets a thumbs up from me. Ellie's words on the book. Mum it was awesome, it was so funny. The minute this book was delivered, Ellie couldn't wait to read it. I'd explained the book to her and asked if she would be interested in it. YES YES YES was her reply.
Ellie is currently learning about fossilization and rocks in school, so she was eager to check out this book. I do think the fact that it's what she is currently learning about at school helped with her interest in this book. While this book starts off with poetry for the first half, Ellie managed to read it all (age 8) I would say younger children may struggle, but with an adult would be fine. I would say aged 8 upwards for this book. There were parts of the poetry that I used the images to try help Ellie understand what it meant. Ellie is quite a good reader for her age, so she did very well well with the book. She was fascinated with the way the book was done. She loved the parts towards the back of the book that explained about Earth, Minerals, Rocks, Fossils, Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Atmospheric and surface water, Glaciers and Groundwater. There is a page dedicated to each topic. This book has been to school 3 days this week, where the teacher has read it out to class, so not only did we benefit from this book, her whole school class did to. The book is brilliantly put together, a sturdy hardback which will survive the many times its being used. Great illustrations. Our thanks go to Walker books for sending us a copy of this book. |
