Dangerous by Jessie Keane is a deadly story of London's criminal underworld, from the bestselling author of Nameless.
Whatever the cost, she would pay it . . . Fifteen-year-old Clara Dolan's world is blown apart following the death of her mother. Battling to keep what remains of her family together, Clara vows to protect her younger siblings, Bernadette and Henry, from danger, whatever the cost. With the arrival of the swinging Sixties, Clara finds herself swept up in London's dark underworld where the glamour of Soho's dazzling nightclubs sits in stark contrast to the terrifying gangland violence that threatens the new life she has worked so hard to build. Sinking further into an existence defined by murder and betrayal, Clara soon realizes that success often comes at a very high price . . .
Oh my dayzzz where has my head been. I have just done a 2 book Jessie Kean binge and thinking I was up to date, double checked goodreads, to find I hadn't read this one, so off I popped to Amazon to find out I purchased this book on 28 February 2015.
Why on earth do I do it? So thinking my hat trick of Jessie Keane books could be completed by reading the new book The Edge: (Ruby Darke Book 3) I was wrong, I finished it by reading this one. So lucky me I still have another one to read, which should then take my little binge up to 4 Jessie Keane books in a row. The down side of reading such amazing books back to back is finding something to match the high standard of writing I'm getting used to. This book was a standalone. 15 year old Clara Dolan is about to have her world blown apart when her mother dies, Clara has to take charge and take on the responsibility of her younger brother and sister. Clara has to flee from her home before the authorities realise she is underage and to young to be looking after her siblings. In a very short space of time Clara has to grow up and grow up quickly. Thinking she is doing the right thing by her siblings Clara Has to find someone who can help and support them. This is exactly what she does. This is not without problems and as time goes by Clara is on a mission to get what she wants, Money to fund her and her siblings lives. Packed with some brilliant and some not so brilliant characters this book takes Clara on a huge learning curve, some amazing twists and a fantastic story line this will have readers gripped from the start. Well worth reading and I would highly recommend it.

‘Spooky and absorbing. I was gripped from the first page!’ CASS GREENThere’s a stranger in your house…
When her stepmother dies unexpectedly, Caro returns to her childhood home in Derbyshire. She hadn’t seen Elizabeth in years, but the remote farmhouse offers refuge from a bad relationship, and a chance to start again. But going through Elizabeth’s belongings unearths memories Caro would rather stay buried. In particular, the story her stepmother would tell her, about two little girls and the terrible thing they do. As heavy snow traps Caro in the village, where her neighbours stare and whisper, Caro is forced to question why Elizabeth hated her so much, and what she was hiding. But does she really want to uncover the truth? A haunting and twisty story about the lies we tell those closest to us, perfect for fans of Ruth Ware and Cass Green. Readers love CUCKOO:
Caro is an artist and illustrator, fining life a little bit of a struggle, when returns to her childhood home for the funeral of her stepmother Elizabeth, little does she know how much of her life is about to change.
Steph the sister of Caro has made the journey over from New York for the funeral and is meeting her younger sister for the first time in many, many years. Although the sisters are now relative strangers to each other there is always a bonding, a sibling bond between them which has never left them really stemming from the time they spent growing up at the isolated farmhouse in rural Derbyshire with their stepmother. This remote farmhouse now offers refuge from a bad relationship, and a chance to start again for Caro. The village seems strange for Caro, why are people looking at her oddly. What is it with this place. There were parts in this book it felt a little odd, and I found if I stopped part way through a chapter, then I had to go back and re read it, there were parts in this book that felt rather spooky, that made you want to continue reading it. overall an interesting read.

For the last twenty-five years, she’s believed that nothing could ever be as bad again. She was wrong. Now, still smarting from her recent divorce, pretty, self-effacing Jo finally gathers the courage to enter the dating scene. She meets Claudio, whom she vaguely remembers from her youth, but after a few dates decides he’s creepy and politely tells him ‘thanks but no thanks’. But Claudio has no intention of letting her go. Instead of never seeing him again, Jo wakes up sick and terrified, handcuffed to her own bed. She is given a week to prove her love for Claudio—or he will kill her. Claudio, it turns out, is a man with nothing left to lose. The Venus Trap tackles the emotional impact of divorce, the perils of modern dating and the age-old powers of lust and obsession.
This is one of those books I've been meaning to start, in like, forever. I seem to have had this on my kindle and it's gotten lost in the never ending list of books I want to read. So while being on 48 hour complete rest, and not being able to walk, I thought I'd do myself a favour and start some of the books I've had on my kindle the longest.
I'm so glad I chose this one, Wowzers,,, what a read it turned out to be. I was a little unsure of the story line as I got started, and couldn't for the life of me figure where it was going. But i'm glad I stuck with it as it turned into a real interesting read. Good story line, and believable characters. Some you will like and others you certainly wont.
Isabel’s life seemed perfect. Successful business, beautiful house, adoring husband. And then she was dead.
For four years Jessica has never doubted that her sister Isabel’s death was an accident. But when Jessica’s young daughter seems to know long-forgotten details about her aunt’s past, Jessica can’t shake the feeling that there’s a more sinister truth behind the tragedy. As Jessica unearths disturbing revelations about her sister, and about the people she loved and trusted most, it becomes clear Isabel’s life was less than perfect and that Jessica’s might also be at risk. Did someone murder Isabel? Are they now after Jessica and her family? The key seems to lie in the hands of a child. Can Isabel reveal the truth from beyond the grave, or is the answer closer to home? In Her Shadow is a gripping tale of family secrets, lies and obsession from the two million copy bestselling author Mark Edwards.
What an interesting read this turned out to be.
I really don't know what I was expecting from this book, it feels so different from the last book I read by Mr Edwards, but just as darn good. This is one of those books that really does make you think, it tests your beliefs, and leaves you thinking about it long after you have finished reading it. Don't read this book late at night, lol. For 4 years Jessica has known her sisters death was a terrible accident. Jessica was very close to her beloved sister and misses her terribly. Although Jessica has believed it was an accident, her mother certainly hasn't believed it. Her mother has always believed there was a lot more to her death. When Jessica's young daughter starts talking about her dead aunt, Jessica starts to think, how can her young daughter know things from Isabel's past? It really creeps Jessica out, there is no way her young daughter should or can know the things she knows. Jessica really does start to think that, just maybe there was more to Isabel's death than she first thought. Is Isabel trying to talk to Jessica through her daughter? Creepy, spooky it's everything you want from a great read. This book really does make you think about the afterlife, Ghosts, do they really exist? If you are a believer or not, this book really gives you something to think about. It's the ability to get you thinking about such things that adds to this book being creepy, the fact it makes you think so much. I don't know any words that is going to do this book the justice it deserves. A first class thrilling read. I can highly recommend this book. It would be a great book for a book club as there are so many things you sit and discuss about the book, it would be a great conversation starter.

MATT BRINDLE Book 1: HIS THIRD VICTIM BOOK 2: THE OTHER VICTIM Book 2
I've recently finished book 1 in this series, and went straight onto this bad boy! Book 2 in the MATT BRINDLE Series.
I'm really getting to like the main character Matt Brindle, ( I also quite like his mother) I'm loving learning about him, his highs and lows, his attituded towards people, the team he works with. His home life is probably just as chaotic as his working life. Trying to balance his full time police career with running events in the grounds of his home to make much needed cash for the upkeep and renovations to his rather large home. It is all very cleverly set out, written brilliantly. Matt and his team are joined this time around with DS Kate Baxter joining the team. Kate who seems to have quite a few issues in her personal life, has the making of another great character. Dead bodies, Body parts, disappearances, If that hasn't got you interested then this isn't the book for you. Once started, I read this book pretty much in 2 sittings. (while the little one's away) I think the tension, suspense and mystery in these pages are enough to keep any fan of this genre going. The twists really made this story stand out. I will add as always with books that are part of a series, I really feel that it's best to read these in order. it will give you a better idea and a better understanding of who the characters are and their backgrounds. What you waiting for, click the links and treat yourself to two great books. If you have noticed my reviews have gotten shorter, it's because I feel sometimes I maybe giving a bit to much of the story away. Not spoilers as such but maybe just a little more info than what is needed. Take that out means shorter reviews because my little brain can't work for long before it's gets tired.

What is the real connection between the victims and who will be next? This is a detective mystery full of twists and turns, with a stunning edge-of-your-seat ending. His Third Victim.
This is a real quick, easy read. I read this over two nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. After seeing a post for the next book in this series, I had to go have a nosey and found this one, so I bought it right away. I have an ARC of the next book, but I don't like to read books out of order. So purchased and started this one. Interesting characters, and a decent story line. This is one of those books that you just get lost in reading, It keeps you wanting to read on. Just one more chapter each time. I liked the character of DI Matt Brindle. I love how he's so different, his background is interesting and it's is great learning about it. Brindle is back at work after an absence, he is slowly trying to get back on track with things and learn to cope with issues that have previously happened. Along side this he has his mother and quite a large house to look after, doesn't sound that difficult does it? well wait till you read the book, you'll see what I mean. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series, I think it's going to be a good one. It's right onto book 2 for me now. I have read quite a few of this authors books, and enjoyed them all. Which means I wasn't really surprised when this turned out to be as good as it was. Book 2 is also now available.
‘Relentless pace, devilish cleverness and a laser-sharp focus on plot.’ Chris Brookmyre
‘Without doubt, this is one of the best detective series I have read.’ Woman’s Way Magazine Your new addiction starts here: get hooked on the #1 bestselling series. Perfect for fans of Karin Slaughter and M.J. Arlidge. There’s no easy way to die… Unknown to DI Luc Callanach and the newly promoted DCI Ava Turner, a serial killer has Edinburgh firmly in his grip. The killer is taking his victims in the coldest, most calculating way possible – engineering slow and painful deaths by poison, with his victims entirely unaware of the drugs flooding their bloodstream until it’s too late. But how do you catch a killer who hides in the shadows? A killer whose pleasure comes from watching pain from afar? Faced with their most difficult case yet, Callanach and Turner soon realise they face a seemingly impossible task… ‘A very sinister premise and an intriguing killer’s voice. Highly recommended.’ James Oswald So what did I think?
Book 3 in this series was a superb read, a gripping thriller to keep you on the edge of your seat. I'm loving the characters in this series and enjoying getting to know about them.
Callaghan and Turner are back, and this time they have a serial killer that need's catching. It isn't going to be easy and straight forward, because lets face it, we wouldn't want to read if they solved the case easily, there would be nothing to get stuck into. Helen fields certainly has a knack of writing a book that will grip you, keep hold of you and spit you out panting for breath by the end of it. I have only just realised I read book 1 then this one, I seem to have somehow missed book 2 out. I love how while the books are serious, and dark there is also an element of humour with the characters personalities. There are a few characters that are really growing on me the more I get to know them. I love reading a bloody good crime series and this is certainly turning out to be one those. I have no problems what so ever recommending this book. If you need a new series then this would be a perfect one for you to try. I feel very privileged to have received this book as an ARC from Netgalley and even more so that I also have book 3 that I can start right away.
Melissa Sanderson is the perfect wife and mother. She dotes on her daughter, and lives in her dream home in a quiet cul-de-sac in the suburbs.
But looks can be deceiving. Something is amiss in that house – all the neighbours think so. Some say Melissa is having an affair. Others say she’s been drinking too much. Then one night, sirens wake up the whole neighbourhood. Melissa Sanderson is dead. Another great read from this very talented author. 4/5*
I couldn't wait to start this book. After reading book one I knew to expect a high standard of reading and a story that was going to grip you. I wasn't disappointed.
Melissa Sanderson seems to be the lady that has it all, the perfect life. We always say though, you never know what goes on behind closed doors. Living with her husband Darrell and their beautiful baby girl Mia. Life is about to change in this lovely cul-de-sac. Detective Gina Harte has just arrived back from a holiday, she's not even had time to get changed before she's back working. Working a murder case that is not only confusing but brutal. There are a number of characters in this book that I really didn't like. ( I don't think I was supposed to like them) You have the feeling of knowing what is going to happen, yet there is nothing you can do. This book was brilliantly written, and I'm concerned should I write any of what went on in the story, it would give away to many spoilers, and I don't want to be doing that. What I can say is this book grips you, it keeps you going, keeps you wanting and needing more. It has you holding your breath, the suspense is wonderfully done. Getting to know Gina Harte just that little bit more is good, I can see a lot more good coming from this character, and I for one certainly can't wait for the next instalment. Will Roberta discover who she really is? A great fun yet meaningful read. 4*
The M Word by Eileen Wharton.
The M word is a great read. A book to get lost in, a book that holds so much truth in it. It's a great story to follow, yet it's a story most women of a certain age will relate to. It's fun, it's honest, thought provoking, it's a bloody great read. Filled with Laugh out loud moments, just be careful where you are when you read this book, you may end up sat on bus with quite a lot of folk giving you funny looks like I did. On the plus side the lady next to me actually asked what I was reading, and she got off the bus with a piece of paper with the title and author to go buy the book. lol 'Roberta Gallbreath is middle aged and menopausal. She dislikes her children, detests her ex-husband and despises her colleagues.' Now how many of us can this relate to, lol.... I thought Eileen had secretly been watching my life in parts of this book. Although as a mother I must say I don't dislike my child. lol. Roberta is on a journey to find herself. A great and interesting character I loved following every bit of her journey. She's an amazing funny character, that seems to just say things as it is. I'm thinking maybe dr's should give this book out to people who go to get their HRT tablets. Anyone going through the Menopause should read this. lol.. A great read that the author has managed to get it all just 'spot on' #HerNameWasRose #BlogTour
This new Irish voice is bursting onto the scene with her first foray into the thriller genre. This promises to be one of the most exciting debuts of 2018. Perfect for fans of Lianne Moriarty, B. A. Paris, Gillian Flynn and Marian Keyes.
Her name was Rose. You watched her die. And her death has created a vacancy. When Emily lets a stranger step out in front of her, she never imagines that split second will change her life. But after Emily watches a car plough into the young mother – killing her instantly – she finds herself unable to move on. And then she makes a decision she can never take back. Because Rose had everything Emily had ever dreamed of. A beautiful, loving family, a great job and a stunning home. And now Rose’s husband misses his wife, and their son needs a mother. Why couldn’t Emily fill that space? But as Emily is about to discover, no one’s life is perfect … and not everything is as it seems. Thanks so much to Sabah Khan for inviting me to be part of this blog tour. What a read that was. A new author for me, and a new author whose books I will be looking out for in the future. What an interesting book this turned out to be. I'm not really sure if i'm honest, as to what I was expecting from this book. It sounded a little different when I read about it, yet it gave me that sense that 'I really need to read this book'. I found myself drawn right into the book from the early pages, and when you realise what is happening, it becomes one of those books you know you can't put down until it's finished. When Emily Witnesses a hit and run, little does she know at the time how much her life is about to change. A lady called Rose was killed in the hit and run, yet luckily her little boy Jack, Lived. Emily seems to become obsessed with Rose's life and manages to plant herself well and truly into what was once Rose's life. Thinking things would be better for her if she became Rose. Emily is also trying to keep from anyone who actually knew Rose, that she witnessed the accident. Emily seems to be a lost soul, losing her job, having no friends or family around her. For Emily becoming someone else seems perfect. But is it? This could be the start of things going very wrong for Emma. It soon becomes clear not everything in Rose's life was Rosy. I like how this book covers the online profile of people, it's funny how people are trying to be something they are not via social media. Social media plays a big part in all our lives today, and I think it's sometimes thought that you have to look good to be popular, and a lot of people go over the top with on line posts. A great read, one I think a lot of people will be talking about over the next few months. I can see this book doing very well for the author. This book has one of those ending you really were NOT expecting. I didn't see that coming at all. Brilliantly written. I felt it delivered a bit of a double whammy towards the ending, I loved how it was done. I will certainly be looking out for more books from Claire Allan.
About the author: A former journalist and columnist, Claire Allan has been writing fiction since 2006.
