The Surgeon: An utterly unputdownable and pulse-pounding psychological thriller packed with twists by Leslie Wolfe
My rating: 4 of 5 stars I got this book initially via my Kindle Unlimited subscription. When I realised the audio was available I thought I'd give it a go. I love when i can switch between reading and listening. Reading when I have the chance to sit down, and then being able to carry on with the audio when I'm busy or out walking is fab. I really enjoyed this. An interesting read/listen. The Surgeon is a good medical thriller. Easy read/listen interesting and intriguing. I liked the main character, Anna Whiley loses her first patient on the operating table. What then follows is Anna being investigated for a death that shouldn't have happened. But was it anything to do with Anna. Is there anything that could have been done differently. Beating herself up Anna looks into what could or couldn't have gone wrong. This book had plenty of twists and turns that keep you engaged within the story. Leave you wondering if you are guessing correctly at what could have happened. One of those books that you want to keep reading. I would recommend this book. Trusted surgeon. Loving wife. Murderer? Before my world came crashing down, I had it all. The successful career I dreamed of. The beautiful red-brick home where I could relax in front of the fire. The handsome, devoted husband whose blue eyes and charming smile always made me feel safe. As I call time of death, my voice is steady. My colleagues stand hushed around me, their eyes on me, confused, concerned. I have never lost a patient until today. My hands tremble inside their gloves. I slide down the cold tiled walls, my heart racing in my chest. I have never hated a patient until today. But what choice did I have, once I recognized him? And what will I do to protect myself, if someone learns the truth? A totally gripping psychological thriller that will have you racing through the pages, gasping for breath until the final jaw-dropping twist. If you love Freida McFadden, Shari Lapena and The Girl on the Train, you won’t be able to put this down. View all my reviews

Take Over by Edie Baylis.
Book 1 in the Allegiance Series. I love starting a new series and especially when its a gangland crime series. We are introduced to some interesting characters through this book. A decent realistic storyline. Sam has always been a pampered only child, not totally aware of her fathers business. However the day has come that Sam needs to take over. A little Naïve maybe, but Sam is determined to do her dad proud. Not everyone is backing Sam, some don't think this is what she should be doing, some will go all out to stop her. Can Sam rise above and prove she has what it takes or will it be easier to pass things over to another family member. Interesting, intriguing and a good page turner. This book left me wanting to read the next book in the series and as luck has it, I'm a little behind and have another 3 books my get my teeth in to. This book has a great mix of family, betrayal and crime. A gritty page turner. Edi Baylis has created an interesting start to a series, lets see what the rest of this series will be like, I'm certainly looking forward to it. This series is also available via Kindle Unlimited. The Botanist by M.W. Craven
My rating: 5 of 5 stars This is by far one of my all time favoirite book series. I can safely say this book sits easily in my top 10 reads of the year. M W Craven has an outstanding tallent when it comes to writing. His story telling is second to none. The storylines keep you hooked with enough going on throughout to stop you wanting to do anything else until you finish the book. Its then an issue when you do finish it as it always leaves you wanting more. The Botanist is Book 5 in the Poe and Tilly series. These two characters have been written about brilliantly and getting to know them over 5 books has been amazing. You almost feel like you know these characters personally and that whatever journey they are going on, you will be right there by there side. Dark, full of suspense and thrilling, you will not want this book to end. View all my reviews

Wicked Girls by Heather Atkinson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars Another superb read. Heather Atkinson has written some absolutely amazing books, the characters and stories she creates are always first class. I don't know how or where the idea's come from but so glad she keeps coming up with new and fresh reads. This time around, Wicked girls takes us back to the start for Toni and Valerie. If you have read the Gallowburn Series then you will be familiar with the main characters of this book. Toni and Valerie are cousins, Part of the notorious McVay family. This book shows us just how it all started for this family. What makes them into the characters we know and love in the previous books. It was good to go back to the start and see just what turned these two ladies into the women they have become. Family life certainly wasn't easy and it's clear while reading this book just what turned Toni into the iron woman she is today. Valerie may seem like the one with her head screwed on, the one that is calm and in control but don't let her dog collar fool you. She is also a woman to be taken seriously and listened to. There was superb tension throughout this book, the story kept me gripped and wanting more. absolutely gripping and a first class read. This author can certainly write a page turner. OOOOHHH my days.. Another stonker of a read. This author can write a damn good page turner, that's for sure.
While Jamie’s cold, lifeless body lay in the morgue, Detective Kim Stone stared at the empty board in the incident room and felt her anger boil. Why were there no photos, details, or lines of enquiry? When a nineteen-year-old boy, Jamie Mills, is found hanging from a tree in a local park, his death is ruled a suicide. Detective Kim Stone’s instincts tell her something isn’t right – but it’s not her investigation and her temporary replacement is too busy waiting for the next big case to be asking the right questions. Why would a seemingly healthy boy choose to end his life? Why does his mother show no sign of emotional distress at the loss of her son? Still mending her broken mind and body from her last harrowing case, Kim is supposed to be easing back into work gently. But then she finds a crucial, overlooked detail: Jamie had a recent injury that would have made it impossible for him to climb the tree. He must have been murdered. Quickly taking back charge of her team and the case, Kim visits Jamie’s parents and is shocked to hear that they had sent him to a clinic to ‘cure’ him of his sexuality. According to his mother, Jamie was introverted and prone to mood swings. Yet his friend speaks of a vibrant, outgoing boy. The clues to smashing open this disturbing case lie behind the old Victorian walls of the clinic, run by the Gardner family. They claim that patients come of their own accord and are free to leave at any time. But why are those that attended the clinic so afraid to speak of what happens there? And where did the faded restraint marks identified on Jamie’s wrists come from? Then the body of a young woman is found dead by suffocation and Kim makes two chilling discoveries. The victim spent time at the clinic too, and her death was also staged to look like a suicide. Scarred from an ordeal that nearly took her life, is Kim strong enough to stop a terrifying killer from silencing the clinic’s previous patients one by one? A compulsive page-turner that will have your heart hammering in your chest and leave you absolutely reeling when you discover the explosive final twist. If you’re a fan of Karin Slaughter, Val McDermid, and Robert Dugoni, you’ll love Hidden Scars. Can be read as a standalone. Hidden Scars is the latest book in the very addictive Kim Stone series. A series of books i have followed from the beginning and a series that i love reading. Marsons know how to deliver a killer read and never fails to keep the reader engrossed. I don't really know what i can say that I haven't said before about this series, It's by far one of my favorite and this book will certainly hit my top 10 of 2022. After a long absence Kim Stone is back to work. Her team are thrilled to have her back. The temp Di they have been working with while Stone has been on leave isn't up to the standard they are used to. He's certainly not very much liked by the team. Kim maybe back in body but has her mind returned with her. She just doesn't seem to have the umph, she normally has. Good old Keats to the rescue, can he awake the real 'Kim Stone and put her back on the right track and functioning as a copper again. The Kim we know and love has to be in there somewhere. It's good to be back with the team, the banter, the way they work, their dynamics are just brilliant. Marsons has created a superb team that work well together on the page. What appears to be a typical suicide is soon realised that there is nothing typical about it, Once the team start to dig deeper a whole new theme emerges. The story within this book regarding sexuality was written really well, Showing how different people can see things so differently. It was brilliantly put together how families can react when your sexual identity doesn't fit their 'expectations. Even in todays society there are still so many obstacles for people of same sex relationships. So many people stuck in the past and this was written about in this story perfectly. As always this was a Dark, thrilling, exciting read and once started you must realise it will be difficult to put down. Bravo Angela you not only delivered you exceeded all expectations. . Book your manicure in now because you'll have no nails left when you finish.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars Book 5 in a series I have come to love. I look forward to the next book each time I've finished one. This isn't a genre a read very often but after reading one of Pam's book a few years ago, I now look forward to a new one being published. I know i'm going to be lost in the lives of the characters, everything about these books come alive while reading. A Royal Visit to Victory Street was an exceptional, comforting read. an easy read that I knew i wasn't going to be putting this book down once started. As always Pam Howe manages to take you back in time and feel like you could be part of this story. A visit back to Victory street and the characters that live on and around it. Character that we have become very fond of over the books. The residents as always are pulling together to make a memorable day when they are to have a royal visitor. Each one doing what they can to help out, showing how when something needs doing, doing it together makes it more achievable. View all my reviews
