A man who survived being drowned ends up in Manchester’s canal. Someone who was hit by a car is shoved in front of DC Archie Davey’s patrol vehicle.
Killers generally aren’t a happy bunch but this particular one seems to have a problem with second chances. Luckily for DI Jessica Daniel, things are looking up. She’s been assigned to work on the most crime-free estate in the city and she’s back living with her best friend. Things could not be hunky-dorier. That is unless there’s a sinister reason why the estate is so free of trouble...
It's no secret, I'm a huge Kerry Wilkinson fan and an even bigger fan of his Jessica Daniel series. I can't believe here we are at book 14. Wow, this woman has been through some stuff.
Each and every book for me just get's better. It's not just the stories and the cases that drag me in, I love following the lives of these fictional characters, and Jessica Daniel feels like a personal friend. I know more about her than I do of myself. Another great instalment here to the series. I find when there are so many books in a series it's so much better to read the books in order. This one didn't feel as action packed as some of the other books, but still a superbly enjoyable read, I loved how we got to see more of Jessica in her private life as well as her work life. The team are investigating an accident in which Jessica herself was involved with, the story flows along nicely and in parts really does grip you. A second case is woven into the story and really drags you along with it. Another superb read from an author who for me just doesn't write fast enough. Saying that if He released a book a week I'd still complain it wasn't quick enough. I look forward to reading more, and can't wait for the next one.

It started with a phone call. Just one word - ‘Jessica’ - and now Detective Inspector Jessica Daniel has a big problem.
Her missing friend, Bex, called from a battered seaside payphone and yet, by the time Jessica arrived, there was nobody there. One man claims he can help – but then he turns up on a beach stabbed to death. Jessica believes someone must be framing her. Someone who is always a step ahead. When she finds a boy whose tattoo matches Bex's, she becomes more desperate than ever for answers. But, with the police growing more suspicious, Jessica doesn’t have long to find Bex before she becomes the prime suspect for a murder. With more than her career at stake, can Jessica clear her name - and find her friend - before it’s too late for them both? Jessica Daniel book 13 - I feel like I've waited forever to read this book. So much so, that the day I received this book I started it, I stopped the other book I'd started and made an immediate start on this. It didn't take me long to jump right back into the world of Jessica Daniel. For anyone who doesn't know I am a huge Jessica Daniel fan and this series has been one of my all time favourites. There is just something so familiar about Jessica then gives an instant liking towards her, and having grown with her over 13 books, she's almost like an old friend. Jessica this time around is not in windy, rain soaked Manchester, she's in even windier, more rain soaked Blackpool. After receiving a phone call from her missing friend Bex (Rebecca) she Jumps in her car and heads along the motorway. Finding a bit of a grotty B&B to stay in, because this is the place that is right facing the telephone kiosk that Bex called her from. The call she received was just one word 'Jessica' and Jessica knew right away it Bex. Trying to understand why she phoned and only spoke one word is something Jessica need's to figure out. She believes that maybe Bex is in some sort of trouble and would know that Jessica would follow up on her call. Jessica is puzzled when she see's the phone booth, and see's a poster of a missing girl who looks just like Bex. It certainly can't be a coincidence, which gears Jessica up even more. Jessica calls the number on the poster, and things take a very dramatic turn for her, has she been set up, if so why and who by. This is a great story of the Hunter becoming the hunted, the story itself left me wanting to read on, at the end of each chapter it becomes, just one more chapter. It was good to see Jessica flying solo and not having her team out with her, it was also good that Andrew Hunter, a character from another series of Kerry Wilkinson's books made an appearance. I can't believe how different this book felt from others, but no less engaging, no less interesting, and certainly no less thrilling. It seam's odd saying it was a roller coaster of a ride, when it's set in Blackpool, the town with one of the biggest roller coasters in the country. One of the best. I can't wait to read more about Jessica and it will be interesting now to see what direction her life takes, what ever it is, I'll be rooting for her the whole way. Mr Wilkinson, can you please write some more, and very quickly.
Charley Willis was thirteen years old when her parents were killed in their family home and she was found hiding in a cupboard upstairs.
Fifteen years later, Charley is marrying Seth Chambers. It should be the happiest day of their lives, a chance for Charley to put her past behind her, but just hours after the ceremony, she is missing. No one saw her leave. No one knows where she is. One thing is for certain…Seth is about to discover he doesn’t really know the woman he just married. And his nightmare is only just beginning. A totally gripping psychological thriller that will keep you reading until the very last jaw-dropping twist. OHHHHHH I just love a Kerry Wilkinson book.. Wilkinson is one of my all time favourite authors. I love his writing style. I particularly love his Jessica Daniel Series. This one isn't part of any series, this one is a standalone and what a bloody good read it is. I love a good wedding, and it seems that Charlie and Seth have had there beautiful day, they have said their vows and are now husband and wife, how perfect. Well it's not perfect, as just hours after the wedding service Charlie goes missing from the reception party. No one noticed her leaving, no one saw anything odd, so where is she? What the hell has happened to her? This book flicks back from Then to Now, the life Charlie had before she met Seth. The up evils in her life, what she witnessed and went through as a child. The thing is, Seth is about to discover he really doesn't know the person he has just married. Is he going to love and cherish his new bride. Find out what happened in Charlies life by reading this captivating book. This book really is one of those page turners. A book that has you gripped. It's one of those books that as much as you try to figure things out, you just have no damn clue which way it is going. Brilliantly, cleverly written. This author certainly has a superb mind and a knack for putting it all onto those pages. First class, but I really didn't expect anything else from this author. I just wish I had the correct wording to say how much I enjoyed this book.

It’s the early hours of the morning and Rose Denton wakes up behind the steering wheel of her car. She’s off the road, through a hedge and in a field.
There’s blood on the windscreen and bonnet – but it’s not hers and there’s no sign of anything or anyone she might have hit. The last thing she remembers is being in a hotel on a business trip but now she’s miles away. Back home and her daughter’s boyfriend is missing. The last thing he did was argue with Rose over money. He left no note, no text, no clue as to his whereabouts. The police have questions – and so does Rose’s family. But those are little compared to the ones she has for herself. What happened last night? And, perhaps more importantly, does she really want to know the answer? A totally addictive psychological thriller which will keep you turning the pages until the final dramatic twist.
I can't believe how quick these books seem to be coming out. I love, love love Kerry Wilkinsons books. The way you are drawn in, and captivated the whole way through the story. Kerry has a fantastic Knack of making you want to read and read and read before you know it your at the end of another book.
This one is another good read. Another one that within hours of downloading it, i'd started to read it. Another book that I didn't even bother reading what it was about, it's by an author I trust to write something i'll enjoy. This time around the writing felt a little different somehow, I felt it took a little while to get going, and although it interested me, I wasn't gripped as I usually am. It had me wondering all the way through what had actually happened at the beginning and why. Rose Denton seems to have had a car accident, when she comes to, she's in a field, behind the wheel of her car. There is blood on the windscreen but it's not hers. There are no dead animals around, no people, so what the hell has happened. Rose doesn't tell anyone about the accident, and can't figure out what has happened. She also can't figure out why mysterious, odd things keep happening to her. The only way to find out exactly what was going on was to keep reading. It was an interesting read, with a decent storyline. I really didn't see what was coming towards the end. It ended with a good twist. Eye for an Eye: A DI Jessica Daniel Novel 12 by Kerry Wilkinson @kerrywk #JessicaDaniel #EyeForAnEye7/1/2018
In bestselling crime author Kerry Wilkinson's Eye for an Eye, DI Jessica Daniel is tasked with multiple investigations while facing demons from her past.
Seventeen years ago, Damian Walker abducted five women because the voices in his head told him to. Now he has been declared sane and is about to be released back onto Manchester’s streets with a new identity. But within hours, there is another attack similar to his previous ones. Walker has proof it’s not him – but is he reliable, and, if so, who is trying to frame him? DI Jessica Daniel and her chief are given a parallel task to the main investigation: Keep an eye on Walker – but that’s not all Jessica has to do. Rock star Blaine Banner is playing a series of homecoming gigs but is convinced someone’s trying to kill him, while a bride-to-be is picketing the police station, demanding someone finds her missing fiancé. All the while, faces from Jessica’s past are watching and waiting. Someone wants a word . . .
4.5/5
I love the Jessica Daniel series, I have followed this series right from book 1, and each new book is eagerly awaited. I still can't believe we are at book 12. Kerry Wilkinson certainly has a knack to story telling. Jessica is still getting involved in everything that is thrown her way, she is a brilliant and believable character. I also enjoy the banter as well as the serious side of her and her work colleagues. Jessica is work, work, work because it's the only thing that keeps her active, keeps her mind from wandering to where she doesn't want it wandering. Things are going on is Jessica's private life and the only way she can deal with them, is by not thinking of them and she pushes everything to the back of her mind, she gets stuck into work to avoid having to face the reality of what is happening. Rock star Blaine Banner is playing in town, but he's convinced someone is out to kill him. He seam's to think Jessica is his personal officer investigating for him. Although he's a huge mega star Jessica just doesn't see the interest others see, and I really liked the way Jessica was around him. Is someone trying to kill him or is his drug and drink fuelled lifestyle just playing tricks on his mind. Along side this Damian Walker a convicted murderer is released with a new identity that he doesn't want. Jessica is tasked to Keep an eye on him. However not long after his release another murder is committed, similar to the murders he was convicted of. Has he murdered again, because he seems to have some sort of proof that it wasn't him. Could this be wrong, or has a sick killer been released onto the streets of Manchester. I really can't wait for more from this series. Another exceptional story, a read to get your teeth into. Wilkinson has a great knack for telling a great story and he's certainly done that here. If you like a great series then this one is well worth reading, and it's worth reading the books in order. I'm not saying you have to, but for a series its always worth starting at book 1. Happy reading. Blog Tour
Thirteen years ago Olivia Adams went missing. Now she’s back… or is she?
When six-year-old Olivia Adams disappeared from her back garden, the small community of Stoneridge was thrown into turmoil. How could a child vanish in the middle of a cosy English village? Thirteen years on and Olivia is back. Her mother is convinced it’s her but not everyone is sure. If this is the missing girl, then where has she been - and what happened to her on that sunny afternoon? If she's an imposter, then who would be bold enough to try to fool a child’s own mother – and why? Then there are those who would rather Olivia stayed missing. The past is the past and some secrets must remain buried. An absorbing and gripping psychological thriller that will have you holding your breath until the final page. 5/5*Kerry Wilkinson is by far one of my favourite all time authors. I requested this book within minutes of it going up for review on Netgalley. It's funny I didn't even read what the book was about, I just know I love Kerry's books so that's all that mattered to me. And just to keep the suspense going I decided not to find out what the book was about and just read it. So I certainly went in wondering what to expect. Well I can safely say I was not disappointed. It felt a bit like doing a book lucky dip. I was part way through another book when I got this one, but that niggling suspense I had, wouldn't let me finish my other book, I caved right in and started this one. It's no secret and I keep on saying it, but I am a huge fan of Kerry Wilkinson's, Jessica Daniel series. I am enjoying this stint he is doing of writing stand alone novels, and it's great to see an author show off their talents. Kerry is certainly a very talented author. We are introduced to Olivia in this book, Olivia went missing 13 years and has just turned up in her mothers coffee shop. It's very strange learning of the background of Olivia going missing. What and where has she been for 13 long years. Who, what, why. Obviously her mother is thrilled to see her, but in 13 years a lot can happen, and some people don't seem as keen on her being back. Some people may just want past secrets, staying in the past. We also meet Lily, who is being raised by her Widowed father. Lily seems to have one or two issues to over come. How the story connects is brilliantly done, getting to know the characters little by little, some you will love and like me some you will hate. But the way the story is done, you really do connect with the characters. This is one of those books that once you start you just have to keep going, It's not got something happening on every page, but it holds a mystery that keeps your attention, and you need to know what is coming next. What I will say is that this book has some great twists, and I have to say an OMG ending. I really wasn't expecting the way it turned out. I just didn't see that coming till it hit me in the face. It's certainly an attention grabber. I can't wait for more from Kerry Wilkinson

‘A gripping, intriguing mystery…an entertaining, thrilling story.’ Nicki’s Life of Crime
They told us he had been missing for nearly two days, that he probably drowned. They told us a lie. Megan was ten years old when her older brother, Zac, went missing among the cliffs, caves and beaches that surround the small seaside town of Whitecliff. A decade later and a car crash has claimed the lives of her parents. Megan and her younger sister Chloe return to Whitecliff one summer for the first time since their brother’s disappearance. Megan says it’s to get her parents’ affairs in order. There are boxes to pack, junk to clear, a rundown cottage to sell. But that’s not the real reason. Megan has come to confront her family’s past after receiving a postcard on the day of her parents’ funeral. It had a photograph of Whitecliff on the front and a single letter on the back. ‘Z’ is all it read. Z for Zac.
Another fantastic read from a very talented author. This is another stand alone book, and shows off the authors talent for writing. I am a HUGE Jessica Daniel fan, and each time KW does a standalone book I'm always worried that I wont like it as much as the Jessica Daniel series of books, but I needn't have worried with this one.
I managed to get stuck into this book right from the off, and found it an interesting and easy read. The story is based around 'Two Sisters' who have lost their parents in an accident. Megan and Chloe visit their old holiday home in the seaside town of Whitecliff. They have returned here as they hold memories of the place, it's where their brother Zac went missing ten years ago. It's time to get their parents things in order, but there is also another reason Megan needed to come back. She has received a postcard from Whitecliff signed 'Z'. Is this from her brother, or someone who knew him. The sisters are not mad to feel welcome by everyone in the town. Some people it seems don't want them there. Things start happening, and slowly the girls are piecing things together. What really went on when Zac went missing? This really was an interesting story line, and keeps you gripped throughout the book. It leaves you wanting more each time you put it down, and you know you'll be picking it back up the first opportunity.

There are going to be so many things I wish I could’ve told you in person, Poppy. I won’t get the chance to do that, so perhaps this is my only way… It’s Poppy Kinsey’s birthday. She should be blowing out candles and opening presents – but hers falls on the type of heart-wrenching, agonising anniversary she would far rather forget. The worst day of them all. The day her mother died. But this year is special because the person she misses most in the world has left her a set of letters, one for each of her next ten birthdays. As Poppy opens them year by year, she discovers that no matter how tough life gets, her mum will always be by her side, guiding her along the way.
If I'm really honest I didn't know what to expect from this book. I am a huge Kerry Wilkinson fan, and absolutely love his Jessica Daniel series of books.
Knowing this was something a little different I started reading it with an open mind. Sometimes I can't help but think when an author changes writing style for a book, that I'd be better off not knowing who the author is. As you can't help but compare them to their other works. Poppy lost her mother a few years back and lives with her dad. If losing your mother isn't bad enough it also happened on her birthday. So each year as well as trying to celebrate she also mourns the loss of her mum. On her 16th Birthday her dad produces 10 envelopes. Each one for Poppy to open on each of her next ten birthdays. It was her mothers wish that Poppy could open one each year, I guess had Poppy decided to open them all at once it would have been a pretty short story. Each year on her birthday Poppy get’s to hear from her mother in the form of the letter. Her mother telling her things that had she still been alive she would have probably told her over time anyway. Simple things like how her parents met, along with advice on what may or may not help her though her growing up. It was really good to read these letters with Poppy and in doing so going on a Journey with her. Her Journey of life, watching her grow and develop. But it also felt like you were getting to know Her mother also. The book for me also felt like it was telling me ‘Don’t get stuck in a rut’ it was like a gentle kick up the backside. We take far to much for granted. If you get a chance to do something, then do it. Don’t sit about wondering, What if? As I said earlier I knew it was going to be a different read, and it was. It wasn’t the gruesome crime we are used to. Just a very easy and enjoyable read. More books from this author.Product details
In Nothing But Trouble, a gripping crime thriller by bestselling crime author Kerry Wilkinson, DI Jessica Daniel has to protect the streets of Manchester from escaped prisoners - and those trying to hunt them down. Niall O'Brien is a veteran living on the edge of a run-down estate, refusing to sell his house to developers. He's the only remaining resident, alone and frightened by a series of break-ins. He's been threatening to shoot the next intruder but he can't be serious . . . what if the next person through the door is a police officer trying to help? Elsewhere, on a bright Manchester morning a vehicle screeches across a junction and wipes out a prison van. Two prisoners run for it, leaving the police to track them down. They don't have long to wait. Hours later, one of the escapees is hanged from a motorway bridge. Was he broken out solely to be killed, or is there something deeper going on? Meanwhile, someone's conning pensioners out of their savings and there are rumours that the bare-knuckle British middleweight title fight is coming to the city. DI Jessica Daniel fears finding herself in the middle of an all-out war, not knowing that the biggest threat might come from a frightened pensioner. Super Huge thank you to the Author, Publishers and Netgalley for an ARC of this book which I have read and chosen to review. 4.5/5 Well well, Book 11. And I have read and loved everyone of them. Jessica Daniel has become one of my favorite female fictional detectives. You just can't help but enjoy these books. You could probably get away with reading it as a stand alone, but if you are anything like me, then you need to read them right from book 1, it really helps with the background of the characters, and you feel more for them as their life progresses. So if you haven't read any of these books, then may I suggest this is the series you get stuck into this year. I also love how all Kerry's books are set in and around Manchester. I always enjoy a book when I know some of the places that are mentioned. I feel it add's to the visions I have while reading. So Jessica is back, and as usual nothing is ever just simple for her. She is having to deal with a prison van that has been hijacked and the prisoners freed, where are they, who has done it and the big question is why? Along with this Jessica learns of a neighbour who has been conned out of some of his saving, and soon finds out that others locally have suffered the same. Another case for Jessica to investigate. Jessica really seems to get involved in everything that is thrown her way, she is a brilliant and believeable character. I also enjoy the banter as well as the serious side of her and her work colleagues. I really can't wait for more from this series. And I have to say, another book that ends with you wanting the next one NOW. Kerry Wilkinson has been busy since turning thirty. His first Jessica Daniel novel, Locked In, is a number one ebook bestseller, while the series as a whole has sold more than a million copies. Craig Macklin was a teenager when his headteacher told him he was heading either to prison or the grave. Instead, Craig left the north of England, saying goodbye to his friends and family to start a new life. Thirteen years on, redundant and separated from his wife, he returns to his hometown for the first time. It's Christmas: markets in full swing, lights twinkling, shoppers shopping, revellers revelling. Manchester has seen a revolution. The buildings soar higher, the shopping centres sprawl wider. New industries have replaced old and yet, away from the glitter, the tinsel, the hot spiced cider and the enormous inflatable Santa, some things will never change. Despite the seasonal sense of jollity, there are secrets from which Craig cannot escape and, when debt-collectors call on his parents' house, Craig realizes the teenage hell-raiser he left behind might not be so buried after all 4/5 Well I have to start by saying I am a HUGE Kerry Wilkinson fan. I love his Jessica Daniel series of books. Here we have a stand alone. Craig is home from London after a good few years away he's back to Manchester. I love how I can visualise most of the places Kerry writes about, as I'm familiar with the area. I don't know what it is, but I always find this adds to the story for me. I also enjoy how Kerry's books always seem modern and up to date. In this book we flit from Craig as a teenager and a grown up Craig now. It helps you piece together a lot of his history, and how his friendships with Mark and Kimberley were formed. I think the timeline of past and present really helps build the atmosphere for this book, it really does add to the edginess off the story. It gives it the air of suspense that leaves you wondering what the hell is going on. As I stated, Craig is back from London to a Manchester he doesn't exactly recognise. He has returned and wants to help his mother and father who have become caught up with owing money to well, lets just say not so nice money lenders. Well with just that info it's quite clear that things are not going to end happily ever after, and sometimes just paying the debt in full with cash just isn't an option. Overall I really enjoyed this book. I did think it a little slow right at the start, but as soon as I got into it, it ramped up a gear. I have just finished it at silly o clock in the morning as my neighbours house alarm woke me at 3am, I thought I'd just finish the chapter I was on, but 3 hours later it was time to get up just as I finished the book. There is just something about Kerry's books that scream at me that I have to read them, no matter what they are about. If I'm honest I didn't even read the blurb for this book. As far as I was concerned it was a Kerry Wilkinson book so it was a must read. And it is. Treat yourself and get lost in a cracking story. But try and start it on a day you have nothing else to do, because it's easy to get lost into the story. I so can't wait for more from Kerry Wilkinson, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next Jessica Daniel instalment. |
